For pure numbers and quality picks of real music. I have to give it to Brutal legends. Not a huge fan of heavy metal (pretty much just Motley Crue for me)...but the songs did play into the game well, and the line up is HUGE. Never seen bigger in a non-downloadable content way before (I think all the rockbands had less). Kinda went with shooting Deer and running over exploding porcupines in a nitrus muscle car too.

As far as sound. Well, I'm partial to the theme of Legend of Zelda, or Final fantasy's main theme (load screen on FF3). But I have to give it up to Chronno trigger. When I played the pS1 version after having loved the SNES version, that beginning cut scene hit the button on my nostalgia of the game. Not to mention Frog's theme. Something about it gets my blood pumping.

Rob's theme, Ayla (remind's me of 'voodoo' from Godsmack), The Opening, Leene square theme....list goes on with epic and great song use/quality.

Fallout 3, the Sonic francise (even if you might think the games are bad, I think the soundtracks in most of the Sonic games are among the best), the Super Smash Bros series, StarFox (Snes), Star Fox Assault, Soul Calibur 2.

Rock Band 2, duh. Something there for everyone.

However, as for original music composed specifically for a game, I'd have to go with the Metal Gear Solid theme (which first appeared prominently in 2, I believe). It's just so epic, it perfectly encapsulates the whole MGS experience. I've always loved the "One Winged Angel" theme from FF7 as well, and you can't go wrong with the music from Silent Hill 2 or 3.

ME TOO!!! Even those two particular songs: they and the ending credits music are my favorites! I was so surprised at how much I fell in love with that soundtrack...
I'm going to hopefully track down the sheet music for those pieces one day and learn them both on violin, I think they'd be great fun to play!
That would be nothing short of amazing. You may be able to find midi files of them: with the right program (Apple's Garageband, for instance), you can turn midis into sheet music. You know, if all else fails.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Hold the phone!

No one remembers the original Command and Conquer? Act on Instinct? C&C Thang? Industrial? Am I truly that out of date?

Runner ups:

Duke 3D - Grabbag by Lee Jackson
One Must Fall: 2097 - Menu Music by Kenny Chou
Need For Speed: High Stakes - Most of the entire soundtrack
Rainbow Six - Theme music

I didn't actually know that... that's pretty cool really! I'll have a search for the sheet music of them, but violin is the sort of thing where playing by ear isn't too hard to do.

Really? I don't think I would be able to play it at all, but I love the sound of it. Great instrument in orchestral music, and I love violins mixed with hardcore guitar too. Good stuff. I fully expect you to record and link me to your performance once you figure these songs out. :p

Also, mad props to the guy that posted "To Zanarkand." Most beautiful piano song EVER.

Haha! Ok, when I eventually get better at my violin I'll link them up in the Jam Thread! Sounds like good fun! Well put on Zanarkand as well, maybe not the most beautiful piano piece ever but still amazing in its own right. Hard to play as well, I've tried. One for the future when I'm a little better.

How about some old school with Rock & Roll Racing! With a racing sound track in lovely SNES era midi format of:

"Paranoid" by Black Sabbath
"The Peter Gunn Theme" by Henry Mancini
"Highway Star" by Deep Purple
"Radar Love" by Golden Earring (only in the Mega Drive/Genesis version)
"Born to Be Wild" by Steppenwolf
"Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood

(though I only remember there being 4 racing songs...)
