The Footman from Warcraft 3. If you check him out at the World Editor, you'll see that the orkish grunt has the footman killed in any attribute, damage, hit points, defence, useful and cool abilities and versatility. The ironic thing is that the footman has the sound of a U.S Marine...

Wretches from Gears of Wars, only problem, they clogged up my lancer blade. Though, I remember from my favourite western game ever, Gun, the average guys in that came in alrge numbers and were easily killed (Mainly due to the brilliant slow-motion, first-person kills you could perform)

ZERGLINGS!

They're little cuties
Dashing and hopping to and fro
Watch your feet, they're hungry

The wolves in the first Final Fantasy. I remember going back to their area after leveling my characters to level 99, and I got ambushed by 9 wolves. Ambushed, mind you, so every single one of these wolves would get to take their turn before I got to do anything at all. And 6 of the 9 ran away.

Yeah, that was satisfying...

Also, the H.E.C.U soldiers from HL1. They we're the only enemy in a game that I've really had a hard time fighting against.
Now of course there has been really hard to beat up enemies in games, but these guys we're good. I mean good, in the sense that they felt like human opponents with their distinct voices and superior firepower.

They didn't just have some thing like: "look at me! I got like a thousand hit points!"

AND, the brown, dinosaur, lizard things who die from a couple of pistol rounds from Duke Nukem 3D. They got jetpacks too.

Blizzard games, any base level enemy.
Murlocs, Orcish peons, Human peasants, Zerglings, Diablo II's fallen ones, no other company has made as many lovably pathetic minions.

My favorite parts of Diablo II were when i'd stumble on a three tent encampament of fallen ones, fight my way to the center, and then hunt down the shamans. Poking peons was fun too.
'Me not that kind of Orc!'

Good times, good times.

The reason why the merchant from RE4 took over the last thread was because he was probably the most memorable merchant of any game ever...

I would say drones from Gears of War 2 if they count. They were made for headshots. I love watching their heads explode after a well aimed pistol shot. I think I have a problem...
