Gojira for me. French Death Metal Band. They are known well in the metal community, but not mentioned often. The the rest of the world, they are very small.

My band is one that actually is popular now, but wasn't at all when I started liking them. I first heard their song "There is No Business to be Done on a Dead Planet" while looking up FoF Drum charts on Youtube, and I liked it, so I looked their band up on Youtube and listened to "The Last Relapse" and since I heard that song, they've been my favorite band.

I've been a huge fan of theirs since shortly after they released their second album (their first one wasn't very good, but every one since has been a masterpiece). Their most recent album received metal-critic.blogspot.com's first 10/10 rating ever.

Beside's them, my favorite artist is Buckethead. All I can say is that he a virtuoso like no other. Listen and you won't be disppointed. I can honestly say there is no other artist like him in the world.

Payable On Death!
Not all of it though, they've changed over the years but the majority is great!

I like them too! I just didn't list them because I figured they weren't "lesser known". I have no idea what is and isn't...
They aren't, he shouldn't have posted that here.

Tarot. It's criminal that they're not more famous after a quarter of a century spent making amazing music.

Bugger it, ninja'd. I'm not such a fan of Gravity of Light, but Suffer Our Pleasures is goddammned amazing.

I think they qualify as lesser known bands. The only people I know who have heard of them are friends I had listen to 'em. Also I don't pay attention to music to much(what is mainstream what isn't, who's popular, new artists, etc.)
Your post reads like my napster playlist! Metal is where it is at.

Amon Amarth
Sadly, Amon Amarth appears to have left the "lesser known" category... I died a little when I saw this, but their shirts are being sold at Hot Topic now...
really? didn't realise that. i mean, i thought they were getting bigger, but not mainstream =\

OT: most music i listen to is fairly well known, although i like my guitar teachers band, INN13. i guess that kinda counts xD

I'm surprised that Cake isn't a more well known band. Their song "Short Skirt Long Jacket" was the opening song, sans vocals, in NBC's show Chuck.

I'll just leave this here..

Five Finger Death Punch. Not sure if they are "less known" enough, but they are pretty good.

And I know they were in Duke Nukem, but how many people have heard any other songs by Stabbing Westward?

Also, have to mention Sonata Arctica. That's good metal.

Finally, Amberian Dawn is freaking awesome operatic metal.
