Final Fantasy Tactics. Yes, it counts, especially if you count Secret of Mana (Final Fantasy Adventure 2...)

Does Tactics count even though it has attatched Final Fantasy: to the front of it? first Ivalice alliance game besides vagrant story...

Well, if FFT counts, then put me down for that as well.

And if ENIX counts before it was squared, the first Star Ocean game.

Well if you are going to go by that logic than one can even go as far as to say the Final Fantasy games for Game Boy, because they really are SaGa games, they were just retitled outside of Japan to capitalize on the popularity of the Final Fantasy name.

I'm not sure if this counts, but Super Mario Rpg: legend of the seven stars. timed attacks, massive map, interesting bosses, GENO (need i say more, hes a talking puppet who can transform into a cannon for pete's sake) and a 3d(ish) platformer.
EDIT: for legitamacy purposes, this surpases squaresoft/enix and is simply known as square

I would say they are allowed, just not good enough to be the best. Although Final Fantasy Adventure was mighty...

I would still say Final Fantasy Tactics is the best, followed by Chrono Cross. And I still consider Tactics better than almost all of the regular Final Fantasies. I'd still put XII equivalent to it, in my books.

Vagrant Story, hands down. I love that game to death. The story, the music, I'm horripilating just thinking about it.

this. I totally forgot they worked on that. Very underrated game, and I wish that the Paper Mario games had been more like it.

Einhander, Parasite Eve, and Tobal 2 in that order. It's about time they got around to making Einhander 2...
They are working on it...in a secret lab under your house.

Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3
That's Squaresoft, right?
Also I don't like any of the Final Fantasy games so whether they were an option or not I'd still go with Secret of Mana.
