The Have

Heard about them because one of their songs was in a trailer for a Burnout game, wound up listening to the songs on their MySpace page all the time. Eventually got their CD, had to get it shipped from New Zealand, which only made it that much more awesome.

Also, bookmarking this thread for future good music needs; do me proud.

Holy mother of a magestic moose, I know this band. They supported us when I was with my old band Son of A Gun at esquires some years ago.

Relatively small world eh?
Yeah it is...I think I was there for that gig. hah.

I'm not sure how unknown they are, but no one I've met in person seems to recognize these guys:

Clutch - awesome and unconventional blues-rock group

The Magnetic Fields - best love songs I've ever heard. Funny, too.

For any electronica fans, Mind in a Box are really nicely put together but probably not as well known.

Not many people seem to have heard of Virgin Black, which are my second favourite Doom Metal band second only to My Dying Bride.
Why didn't you mention Opeth? There not that unheard of, but the deserve a mention, always.

Also Pain of Salvation, where I'm from noone's heard of them. :( And they're great.

Both links are Pain of Salvation.

Madrugada. I can't say for the wide world, but here in Denmark, they aren't especially known, as far as I have experienced.
Very famous in Norway..

hmmm, check all these bands out for good brittish music that doesnt make it anywhere else: Maximo Park, Millburn, Little Man Tate, The Law, and more, but yeah, those especially. Also for randomness pick up K'naan : The Dusty Foot Philosipher, a generally moving album by a somalian refugee hip-hop artists, and i dont usually like hip-hop. Also Great Big Sea, a Newfoundland folk band who are just jaunty, lively and fun!

The Sounds. Download their best single "Tony the Beat" and you won't be sorry.
Apparently they did the theme music for that turd movie "Snakes on a Plane" but don't let that turn you off.

Something For Kids: my old high school friend's death metal band that had to decline a gig at the RSL because the organisers thought they were an actual kids band instead of the "sinister meaning" ol' Scotty (Man, I miss that guy) had in mind with his "vision". They made good, funny death metal music which sounded like Dethklok before there was Metalocalypse, except instead of songs about "Mermaid Murder" they had "Mr. Whippy Will Scoop Out Your Eyes" and "Paper Cut from a Warhammer 40,000 Codex". Needless to say he was a big nerd.

Lyrics from "Paper Cut from a Warhammer 40,000 Codex":

"So the Codex leaves you cut
You're fucked
The pain's driving you nuts
And you're dripping with blood...

Who knew your Tyranids Codex
Could drain you till you're dead
The draining of blood
Leaves you light in the head"

...and it goes on like this...
