So far my game of the year is Empire: Total War, but that speaks more to this year's weak crop of games than to Empire's quality. A game that is merely "very good" should not be granted such accolades.
ETW had far too many bugs, and I stopped playing a week or 2 after buying it.
Im sure I will have some drive to go back sooner or later, but the bugs are just too blatant.

my favorite game has probably been ARMA 2 or Men of War
I had to respond because I chuckled a little when you said that you shelved Empire: Total War for bugs, but ArmA 2 was one of your top games of 2009 so far.

That being said, ArmA 2 is my favorite game of 2009 so far as well. BIS will address the bugs, and they are famous for their support. :D
I play Arma 2 strictly for the multiplayer at this point.

ETW im no good online at, so I ended up shelving it rather quickly, in hopes the promised "patch" would come out.
I have yet to try ArmA 2 MP. I suppose I should give it a shot once my desktop is repaired.

Definitely prototype, but the only games I've bought this year are Prototype, Halo Wars and Wolfenstein. It's been a slow one. Looking forward to ODST and Modern Warfare 2 - MW2 wil probably be my personal GOTY.

Prototype, nothing else comes close in my view this year so far. Assassin's Creed 2 looks like it will be very good though
*High Fives*

Truly nothing else has (in my very humble opinion) come close to Prototype. Ive played plenty of games, including Shadow Complex, Batman AA, and inFAMOUS, but none of them really just clicked with me the way Prototype does.

Batman AA was the epidemy of good game design, and yet in its own way so was Prototype.

An interesting feature in Prototype is that you can neither block, nor run away from every enemy that comes at you. The balance is just right, and i was so taken in by the game it blew me away.

I haven't bought a single game out of this year yet, the only one that I'll actually be shelling out 60 bucks for will be MW2 when it comes out.

I'd like to play Arkham Asylum though, from everyone I've talked to, literally everyone, they all say it's a killer game.

I would have to agree with you there. 2009's been a pretty shoddy year for gaming.

Hopefully, that will all end with Brutal Legend. Tim Schafer's never made a bad game, but there's always a first time.

4. ...er....

there haven't been many great games this year really.

Well, most of the games I played this year are ones that came out last year and I just got around to, so that really depends. If it's whatever game I played this year it'd be Fallout 3, but if it's released this year I've gotta go with Prototype.

Haven't played Arkham Asylum yet but I imagine that will ricochet up the charts, and I also have high hopes for Assassin's Creed 2 and Brutal Legend.

Don't know. The only games of 2009 I brought so far was Resident evil 5 and Prototype and I didn't like either of them that much.

Little King's Story
Gorgeous art style and music, fun gameplay, originality and some rather humorous (assumedly intentional) political satire.

Demigod, which might change after the release of borderlands or MW2.

InFAMOUS, without a doubt

Kill Zone 2 was meh (I'm all FPS'ed out), although technically awesome.

Looking forward to Street Fighter IV and Prototype, which I just ordered, and Uncharted 2 and FIFA 10

So far it's Shadow Complex. I love the old skool feel to the gameplay. it definitly reminds me of getting my ass handed to me by Ridley the boss of Norfair back in the day. Love the story, animation, graphics and voice acting too. Im only alittle way into it but i will be replaying it over and over to beat my friends scores. With many bigger games coming out this year i don't think it will end up being my GOTY but for 1200 points it is a steal (yes Dustin a steal) Unless im majorly dissapointed MW2 should win that one.
