I keep my 9mm loaded, chambered, safety on and in a snapped holster in a drawer in my nightstand. If I'm out, it's on my hip about half the time. It's no good to me if I can't shoot it. The only time they get locked up is when family comes over.soapyshooter said:It costs between $1000-1200 i probably have to start saving up a year before im gonna buy it. And yes i will get a safe, a good one. Im not gonna be one of those idiots that shoots a friend or gets shot by a drunk friend. My gun will be in the safe unloaded and ammo beside the gun. Gun safety is pretty important to meTreblaine said:snippedsoapyshooter said:Snipped
I was referring to how The 5.7 penetrates soft body armor like Kevlar. I was just using the terms the previous posts use.Kheapathic said:I think you're a little confused. The velocity of the bullet isn't what makes an armor piercing round. You can load the cartridge with different grains and such to get different results but that's only a slight tune in the bullet. A real AP round is made with a shape charge in the actual projectile. The bullet flies through the air and when it strikes something the impact triggers the shape charge which detonates and pushes the front of the bullet harder.TheSapphireKnight said:Okay lets clear up a few things.
1.) Not all 5.7 rounds are armor piecing. The only kind I've seen around are those blue tipped one and those aren't armor piercing (at least I don't think so). It's only "armor piercing because it travels so quickly. .223 are "armor piercing" they just won't go through ceramic plates.

And a 12 gauge shotgun, one of the most ubiquitous weapons in the entire world, is an armor piercing weapon if its chamber can accommodate slugs. A 12 gauge slug will go through body armor, or both sides of a car, like they're cardboard.TheSapphireKnight said:1.) Not all 5.7 rounds are armor piecing. Now that I agree completely with. I do think people should really learn how to handle a gun before they buy one. But what they should do, and what they actually do are just not the same enough times. Properly handled I see no problems with people possessing and carrying firearms.Jebusetti said:You gotta realize though, that most of these people posting about the handguns they want will never leave a city for more than a weekend camping trip in a patrolled park and would only "use" them in stupid situations that will get them or someone else hurt (again, not talking about taking it to the range here).manaman said:I agree with you about the coyotes, only animal I have had to shoot in a long time. I just disagree with you about the other snippets up there.Jebusetti said:I have grizzly and black bears, wolves, coyotes(which are more of a problem than the wolves and bears combined!)...
...That is my reason for owning guns... Handguns and automatic weopons have one purpose: to kill other people...
Normally when I encounter wildlife up close like that I give it a good shout and it runs away. Even cougars, which I have seen one before. Believe me I had my pistol drawn and aimed on him the moment I saw him, and he was gone half a second later. That same handgun shoot and killed that coyote. Handguns are great defense weapons even in the middle of the woods. Being out to hunt I would take the rifle, being out for a stroll, or working I would take the handgun. Hell even if I was out to hunt I would still have a fair size sidearm, just in case.
Also, people are seriously overestimating the accuracy of handguns, and their own ability to handle them effectively when it counts.
Again, I was referring to soft Armor like Kevlar.Phlopsy said:And a 12 gauge shotgun, one of the most ubiquitous weapons in the entire world, is an armor piercing weapon if its chamber can accommodate slugs. You can still find AK-47 clones for sale (legally). I bought a WASR-10 from a local shop just a few months ago.
Hell, you can even find pre-ban 75-round drums at gun shows and on the internet.
They are actually only semi-auto. They have to be illegally modified to make them full auto.Eggsnham said:Rochester NY.TMAN10112 said:A Mossberg 500 that my father gave to me.

And I didn't know you could find clones legally, I was under the impression that all automatic rifles were illegal here in NY. I guess not, though. Cool!
I didn't mean that full-auto AK's were legal (although I think it is possible with enough time, money, and flaming hoops). I was talking about the semi-auto kind.Eggsnham said:Rochester NY.TMAN10112 said:A Mossberg 500 that my father gave to me.
