It's... awesome.

A friend said to me that a scoped pistol would be idiotic - can someone explain?

Yes please only post if your adding something to do with the thread not just ranting about shit you heard on the news.

And first for me will be an Ak I think.
Uhhh, do you not see the "My first gun was a Springfield XD 45" part?

"Most expensive" "Best". You could probably do just as well and have an extra grand to pocket for training/ammo if you went with a single-stack 1911.
True, but I'd be more likely to just get both.

I have a Mossberg 500c shotgun. It's mainly for home defense and skeet so I only got a 20 gauge version. I know its not as manly as the 12ga, but I can go out to the range all day and not feel like my shoulder is broken the next day! I really want a Mosin Nagant, but I want it more for the historical value than to shoot it.

This thread has genuinely upset me. How can so many people have guns?

Sure, you might say, "It's for self defence", but defence from what? Other people with guns? A pretty vicious cycle.

Its all you gun nuts that are killing society.
No.

Legal, responsible gun owners aren't contributing to crimes related to guns. In fact private citizens who own guns handle them more responsibly than most cops.

If guns where illegal, criminals (the ones who are causing the issues) would get them anyway. So you claim that gun owners are hurting society is bullcrap.

Because your friend plays too many video games and doesn't realize scoped pistols are used for hunting.

Also, not looking for internet friends.

I'm not allowed to have a gun yet, but if I get my gunlisence, I'll probably buy this little gem:

The Smith & Wesson 357. Magnum Revolver

Yeah, I'm a Halflife-fan:p

First "gun" I ever fired was a red rider BB gun, it is still pretty fun to shoot, and I'm teaching my youngest brother how to shoot it. I have yet to fire a real gun, so I take my advice from my grandfather, who as had multiple home defense guns, and has used them occasionally. For a home, I would take a pump shotgun of some sort, apparently, the noise they make is enough to make any intruder shit their pants, and if you miss, the shotgun blast wont go though 3 houses, like the colt .357 that he currently uses. My grandfather got rid of most of his guns once my older sister was born. I never even knew he had the .357 until a couple of years ago, well after we were old enough to know not to screw around with it.

Explanation: some fellas are of the opinion that handguns aren't useful out to ranges where scopes have the most utility. Of course, those folks have usually never heard of Elmer Keith or of Silhouette shooting. Some guys can pull off miracles with handguns... on a weekendly basis.

A scope does make a handgun very heavy and unwieldy, and also difficult to aim at close range, which means it's no real use for self-defense. Systems for mounting scopes on semiauto pistols are cumbersome and tend to shift their zero slowly but surely, since a handgun, particularly a powerful one, goes through a lot more movement than a rifle.

That said, reflex sights and red dot scopes make for excellent additions to sporting handguns, and can make a massive difference when it comes to accuracy and speed of target acquisition. They still won't fit in a holster, though.

Crimson trace makes a pretty handy grip laser system that I've seen on a couple of guns, if you're interested in combat aiming aids.

So I am a canuck, and I own and use guns. I have a 12 guage pump shotgun, and have used a variety of rifles from .22 up to .308. In my partcular situation, guns are a necessity. Right now, i live in a residential area of whitehorse, so I keep my shotty out at the parents place out of town; however, in about 5-10 years I will be building my home on 45 acres of land carved out of the Yukon wilderness. I have grizzly and black bears, wolves, coyotes(which are more of a problem than the wolves and bears combined!), wolverines, you get the picture. If you dont have a gun or some other means of effectively defending yourself up here you might as well get yourself lost with a backpack full of bacon...

That is my reason for owning guns. As for all of these people on here who are posting pics of handguns they want to get or that gun from MW2 they like, get a fucking clue. I like americans, for the most part, but i have to wonder how a country whose education system has been in shambles for years think its a good idea to have their populace armed to the teeth. Handguns and automatic weopons have one purpose: to kill other people, and should be left in the hands of trained soldiers, not the kid who gets picked on in high school.

I'm gonna do the civilian marksmanship program soon, or so I hope, and so then when I turn 18 I'm gonna try and pick up a Garand, if not a Springfield, if not I'll just buy a Remington 700 SPS. My first pistol, If I have the money, will porbably be a glock

Just so you know, that's an S&W 629. The .357 from Half-life one was a Colt Python, the original 29's main competition. Was even featured as the "bad cop" gun in oneof the Dirty Harry movies. :D

The Colt looks a bit chunkier, and that ventilated rib on top is just sexy as anything.

The British government believes self-defence is for pussies. I am not allowed to enact "unnecessary force", whatever that may mean. I think it means that so long as I don't touch the burglar and enact a hilarious "Home Alone" defence, sure to make the judges, too busy releasing multiple rapists after a year or so in prison, laugh their heads off (because for some reason in Britain, we use reverse law - self-defending victims get harsher punishments than the damn criminals - one criminal broke his leg while robbing a house, without the owner doing anything, and successfully sued him for negligence) and take pity on lowly old me.

Sigh, too true. Lately there was this big deal about these robbers that broke into a mans house, tied up a guy and his family, threatened to kill them, and robbed them in front of their eyes. The dad of the house broke out and started to attack them and chased them down the road. He picked up his brother on the way somehow, caught up to one, and beat the crap out of him. I personally think he deserved it, but the justice system decided the father needed 4 years in prison for following his instinct and protecting his family. Sickening.

Anyway more on track I'd probably like to keep a S&W revolver. I'm not gonna lie I have no idea about models and types but if I was going to get one it would be a S&W for purely aesthetic reasons.

With the Severe restrictions on guns I doubt I'll ever own a real one. Even fake guns are hard as hell to find without a special license or such. I own a couple of toy guns, but that's it.

I may get a rifle or shotgun to kill all the FUCKING RABBITS! Though I'd probably need a machine gun to get them all.

What was it? or if you will be a gun owner Which one will you buy?

On my 21st birthday i am gonna pick up this lil beauty:

Its mainly of self defense, The way society is progressing you dont know when shit will hit the fan.

Serious answers are appreciated (someone will say BFG 9000) but whatever, have fun with it.
Not to harp on your choice, but in what world would you need a self-defense weapon capable of defeating body armour.
In case he's attacked by someone wearing body armour.

My first gun was a plastic air soft rifle, I wish I could get a real gun, but the laws are restrictive in Canada.

Maybe in a few years I'll pick me up a .41 Cal one of these here. (.41s are harder to find)

Massive disparity there between the "practical" and "dream" guns. :D It's nice to see someone not deciding purely based on rule of cool, though, and the chief's special has a great following as a pocket gun.

As an incidental, though, next time maybe find a pic of a DE that doesn't have an orange airsoft marker on the tip. :D
