I believe it was Dragon Warrior for the NES.
I wonder why they had to change the name from Dragon Quest when it touched down on American soil way back when?

Either Grandia 2, Baldurs Gate 2, or Seiken Densetsu (spelling) not the first but dunno what number was there.
PS1? Then it's Legend of Mana.
Emulator, and the words "Secret of Mana" comes to mind, but I'm not sure if it's right :p

Does Legend of Zelda count as an RPG?If not then my first was some JRPG on the NES that I can't for the life of me remember the name of.Pretty sure it wasn't a Final Fantasy game though

Exile 3: Ruined World... or at least a demo of it. A damn good (albeit confusing at first) intro to RPG's. It's totally different from most RPG's. There's a huge open world, an interesting story, and the combat system is on a grid, so you move your guys like pieces on a chess board. Shame there aren't many more RPG's like it. You can customize a party of 6 guys from scratch. You've got a bunch of combat stats to play around with, like sword skill, pole weapon mastery, archery, throwing weapon skill, mage and priest spells, and some fun stuff on the side like disarming traps, making potions, poisoning your weapons, deciphering tomes that you can learn spells from, and so on. So you can go all-out with spellcasters, make a character who does melee with some archery/magic on the side, a dual-wielding juggernaut that chucks javelins at anything that's too far away, and so on.

But as you might expect, there were a few problems with the game's customization system. For example, the more strength your character had, the more health he gained per level without having to put points into health. So you could lower everyone's health to the minimum at the beginning of the game and put the points into strength, and before long you'd have some beastly tanks with some extra skill points saved up. It's not too hard to do, since you can rely on spellcasters and just run away from enemies (in the beginning, nearly all enemies use melee) while blasting them with spells.

Did it look like this:

Or this:

Note: Contrary to Onyx, I found Legend to be a HUGE disappointment. Secret kicked ass. Onyx already knows of my view though. :D
Then it was Secret. Like I said, it was played on an emulator. What i forgot to mention was that it was an emulator at a friends house, so I have no idea what platform we actually were playing. Seems like it was SNES :p

Wish I could find the thread, but we spoke about it briefly along with the even bigger disappointment that was Chrono Cross (*braces for Onyx's reaction*). You did mention that you played Legend and Cross before Secret and Trigger, which may explain our opposing viewpoints.

I can't remember much about Legend honestly, but do remember renting, beating and returning with feelings of disappointment. Not nearly the disappointment I felt with Saga Frontier 2 though (no pocketstation for NA + Saga Frontier 2's huge reliance on it = Me wanting to throw that game through the window).
FUCKING POCKETSTATION!

I still had fun, though. I couldn't do EVERYTHING, but you could see the story.

OT:
There you have it. You were DISAPPOINTED. I had no expectations for either game. I was just getting into RPGs at the time. By the time I played Secret and Trigger, I had expections. Secret failed miserably. Trigger was still great, though. But lacked...the depth of Chrono Cross' dozen of characters, and badass plot twist with Serge and Lynx.

Pokémon Yellow.

I was about 2-3.
It was awesome.
according to your profile page, you were born in 1994, that would make you 5 years old when Pokémon Yellow was available in your country.
