I agree with almost every point you made, though I will opine to you that I feel VATS does not really equate to turn based combat as the numerical and mathematic focus is undermined by the ability to fire off a few shots, duck behind a corner and wait for your AP to recharge.
Yeah--VATS is *almost* there: maybe if you can always use VATS, but when you run out of AP, your accuracy goes way down so the choice between FPS and VATS is important, but it'll be different from an all VATS/slowly replenishing AP system in that the game won't screw you by letting you use all your AP and then another raider you didn't see jumps from behind a mailbox or something.

Maybe make AP more like follower HP: it goes right back up after all the hostiles are gone. Maybe give you two AP 'ceilings': one that you start a fight with, and a lower one that represents the max you can replenish with hostiles around?
Yeah they're good ideas.

I also think it would be nice to have two different aiming mechanics, one for item collection/ home deco and another more refined one for combat (the manual aiming in F3 was woefully bad).

why do you mention unreal 3, i thought it was same engine as fallout 3/TES?

;)
I mention it because:

I feel it might be time for them to move on from the current engine (is it Havoc? I think it is) because

a) it is clearly visually dating compared to a lot of new engines.

b) It is a very buggy difficult engine to program for apparently, hence the Pitt debacle. That must have been one of the most embarrasing moments in game dev history!

I figured obsidian are doing what they do best, making sequels of other peoples games. so they will just be taking fallout 3 code by code, but putting it in a new area. the fact that its not a sequel tells us there wont be very much difference to fallout 3 at all, its not going to trying to make the game more like fallout1/2 thats just stupid. its basically just more content ;)
F3 uses the Gamebryo engine...I think.

And by more like F1/2 I think it means the style will be more like the previous games (i.e. writing, humour, etc; not gameplay)

Not really, it's pretty frustrating getting onto really any game forum and seeing over 9000 F3 threads and then any generic xbox/ps3/pc/rpg thread is filled with fallout comments. I mean, it's actually pretty unavoidable. And really annoying.
Shut-up. "Fallout" is a groundbreaking and amazing series and, just because the latest installment wasn't as original, innovative, well-written, immersive, interesting or fun as the previous three (that's right... the previous three, as "BoS" doesn't exist) doesn't mean it wasn't fun.
So you just proved my point for me?
Umm.. this did confuse me... I like Fallout 3, but I dislike CoD so I can see where your coming from, but well, you were trolling a tad, how about you make a thread to see if anyone else dislike the games as much as you, could be a way to make some friends or something, but I mean you have your point and you .. and I'll shut up before I ramble.. good.. what was i saying?.. Hello, my name is Snowalker...

I hope it's like Fallout 3 in terms of gameplay, but I'd like the atmosphere to be as Vegas as possible.
Lol I think you'll be pretty happy with it so :)

I really hope Three Dog isn't in it. He was ok for the first 40 hours but now I want to pull his tongue out and stuff a sock down his throat.

Guys, Fallout: New Vegas is being made by the same people that made Neverwinter Nights 2. 'Nuff said.

You know, a lot more strippers and drugs.

I don't even listen to the radio at this point. I blame the recession's influence on the Wasteland economy.
Yeah, Three Dog and Galaxy News Radio can only afford 14 records which they play over and over. I blame the bankers.

Nope, they use their own Gamebryo engine.

With the rising dangers of Wasteland creatures combined with bigger protection costs they had to cut record purchases.
Property prices are soaring for bombed out skeletal ruins these days too.
