My award for the saddest gaming moment I've experienced lately goes to The Darkness: most people who have read the comics will be quite aware of what happens but to those who haven't and are playing the game I will spoiler.

Jackie's girlfriend is murdered by his uncle Paulie and his corrupt police commissioner partner in crime. In the end Jackie succumbs totally to the darkness making him unable to be with his girlfriend. At the end of the game he has only a brief moment with her before he is separated from her once more due to the influence of the darkness.

It was bad enough that she died after watching the intimate moments between them in first person view, but the ending really hits home that despite Jackie's efforts to rein in the Darkness, his lust for revenge for her murder has only played right into the hands of the Darkness and subsequently taken him farther away from his goal to finally die and join her.

I suppose there a few good ones for me. But the one that takes the cake is meeting Raine's mom in Tales of Symphonia. Made my jaw drop

Mass Effect! THAT decision............... Not gonna lie, I cried (every time) :'(
May you please clarify on what decision you mean?
There is a trigger point in the game where you have to make a tough decision (don't know how to do the 'spoiler', thing and didn't want anyone having the game ruined cos of me and my big mouth, lol) so I can PM you, or if someone can tell me how to do the spoiler I'll do that :) Thankees in advance
To use spoilers:
-Content-
Without the spaces.
OK will give that a go, thanks :)
You get to a certain point in the game where you have to choose to let either Kaiden or Ashley die, you cannot save both, and at this point if you have followed conversation options you will have romantic feelings for one and friendship with the other, and dammit it is sad
Oh yes that part. It took me about 5 minutes to choose. I choose "K" to make it, as I needed a bio person.
Doesn't take me long, I always choose K but I really like A, she is kind of a badass for a female party member, but going into the final fight you can't beat a biotic team! :)

The walk before the final boss fight in SH2
Climbing up that long ladder in MGS3
When you find out that you-know-wHo is dead in SH3
The credits in Fatal Frame 3

Off topic, i hate it when people posts stuff like this in spoiler tags but don't indicate what game they are talking about so you don't know if it is a game you can read the spoiler or not and either you read the spoiler or stay with the doubt of what game could have been.

My saddest moment probably came from world in conflict

During the Cascade Falls part when just as it seems you have won, the soviets come back and Bannon stays to keep the Russians busy until the nuclear strike happens. It was sad enough until you go the the flashbacks and see what he had done D:

Greatest was probably when I first got to lvl 60 in WoW

No offense to anyone, but I'm surprised to see that scene from Saint's Row 2 on so many lists. The outrageous nature of the game combined with the sometimes comically vile nature of the protagonist made my level of emotional investment about the same as I would have for a looney tunes short. Fantastically fun game and a very well done scene, but still, color me surprised.

Greatest Moment would be defeating the Enclave in the Broken Steel DLC (Mind you, I had Atreyu on, so I had a great mental advantage.). Listening to grinding guitars while popping skulls with a super sledge = Totally Metal!

i definately have to say that the final parts of GTA4 would rank as my most emotional and saddest moments (I role-played it all the way through, and I lost her, and finished from wedding to end that night, couldn't quite stop)
So good i did not want to rampage afterwardds basicially until the DLC came out, and that guy was a asshole, so it was alright.
i guess it also win on imersion, leaving only...
...greatest, which was spanking in 3 guys in shotty snipes solo.

I have a few but they were more emotional for me...as in, what was happening in the story.

Shadow of the Colossus Ending
{The ending of Shadow of the Colossus. I was bawling my eyes out and totally sucked into what was happening. It was a fantastic ending and such an emotional drop after so many battles, though it was still a good kind of drop.}

Drakengard 2
{When Caim and Angelus died. Made me cry like a baby there too.}

Final Fantasy X's ending. That was just sad but it totally sucked you in.
Shadow Hearts too. The two first games are both very emotional.

As for a greatest...majority of MGS4 can qualify for this but
{When you first see Raiden again and he's a cyborg with no backstory at all. It's both awesome and a totaly WTF? moment}

The most emotional moment would be:

The bits when you find out James killed Mary. I mean, it was hinted that James did something bad, but, killing, that totally contradicted the nice guy image they created for him.

The most saddest moment would be:

Again, from SH2. The full letter Mary sent to James. It's really sad, and the phenomenal voice acting made it even better, but what made it the most sad for me, is that Mary wanted James to move on, to stop caring for her, to stop torturing himself. And the point in the end, when she breaksdown and starts crying, really sad.

My greatest moment was in Medieval 2: Total War. I defeated an army that held all the advantages and outnumbered me 7:1. I held out for over an hour and in the end managed to kill the enemy's general and wipe out most of his forces. On the hardest difficulty level.

Most immersive must be either the beginning of Morrowind or the long strides in the wasteland in Fallout 3.

I'd like to see that :D. I chose K becuase I was a soldier already, so I didn't need another.
I did a playthrough as a soldier and found it a lot easier than the choice I normally make, I tend to go for sentinel characters (as in KOTOR) as I love the extra skills I can have that soldiers don't. I do use the unlocked assault rifle training though ;-)

Breaking it down, it goes:
[sub]Watch out, the Saddest one is an actual spoiler, the others aren't.[/sub]

Xion's death and absorption into Roxas in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and the end of the game. It ends on a horribly bittersweet moment, considering what I know about Kingdom Hearts 2

From the beginning to the end of Morrowind. Alternatively, Fallout 3.

Beating Devil May Cry 3 on Dante Must Die mode.
