Your most surprising Fallout 3 moment

...Wow.

Yes, that's probably one of my most surprising moments. You expect a game like that to have awesome weapons, awesome enemies, just general moments where you go this is great. But I never expected anything like Tranquility Lane.

A little side moment like that was when I found the ramp by the white house in the tunnel, a motorcycle on the other side, and a body with it's head stuck in the ceiling pipes. I just laughed out loud at the awesomeness of the developers' humor.

Tranquility Lane felt like a copout to me. It was 'do what he says like a good little boy,' or, 'talk to an npc who knows exactly how to stop him but doesn't do it herself BECAUSE.'

I was also quite surprised that the main quest contained the memorable end-game twists from both Fallout and Fallout II. What was even more infuriating was that I saw them coming a mile away. I understand that most people who were expected to buy Fallout III had never played a Fallout game, but re-using exactly the same twists with poor execution is just inexcusable.

I enjoyed Fallout III, but the game could've been much better written.

hi, first post. love this site!

nobody mentioned the UFO crash site. i had read about it but never made it an active priority to seek out. playing the game through a second time, i have vowed never to 'fast travel' in order to find new things and to have a more difficult experience. try it! conserving ammo and stimpaks while managing what you can carry with weight restrictions is hard. anyway... i was taking a road to a quest when the distress beacon became available. tuning it in and hearing it for the first time was hair raising... it's terrifying. they did a brilliant job with that sound effect. i was surprised to find that the signal actually got stronger and more complete as i circled around to locate the source. the first visual clue was a house with a huge hole in the middle. looking through the hole i spotted the ditch the craft dug and heard my pip clicking away the rads. it was a very immersive situation and my heart started pounding as i sighted the smoking wreckage. i'm sure you've all seen it, but i feel i shouldn't spoil anything... suffice to say that it is awesome, scary and rewarding. by far the most surprising fallout 3 moment for me. that 'mothership zeta' DLC is going to be AMAZING. i hope.

my favorite was when everyone started running and screaming in rivet city and the security started shooting me you know what i did i turned on someone elses radio

honerable menchin in my first game i turned mr burke in to lucas simms and burke killed lucas so i took his keys and went to the armory thinking it was a store or something and then i saw the robot and he killed me

I was having fun with console command a while back, and I had forgotten I spawned 20 Liberty Primes. For some odd reason they were hostile to me =/

..You could only imagine the look on my face when I saw that charging towards me...

mine was freaky it was the first time i got out of the vault and i accidentally went the opposite direction of megaton and i came across a wastelander running from raiders now with BB gun in hand i was sure i could kill the raider easy for he only had what i think was a pistol but as it happened another raider came behind me and torched me and my BB gun didnt do shit so i got screwed

What momnet was most surprising to you in your time playing Fallout 3? Why did it surprise you?

My most surprising moment was when I stumbled across Oasis by accident. I was first surprised by the green plants that dotted the pathway to the gate. Then I finally got inside and was awestruck at what I saw: trees, living trees. However I was surprised the most when I met Harold and Herbert (aka Bob).

Honorable Mention is when you meet President John Henry Eden.

I have two, both involving the Fisto! I added the exclamation mark because that's how it's put in the game.
Anyway:

Moment #1 - When I first gave it a try and tried a VATS hit on a Raider after Dogmeat had weakened her. Punched her arm off...and I loved it.

Moment #2 - When I did a VATS hit on a molerat and kicked it's head clean off. I wish I had that recorded, I could've watched it again and again.

In Tranquility Lane when Betty's voice suddenly changed from a squeaky little-girl tone to an angry man talking with a harsh Russian accent.
Also, when I first started playing and was still a rather low level, I inadvertently stumbled into Old Oney. I was just wandering about the town, when I heard heavy breathing, turned around, and noticed that two Deathclaws were running after me. I threw the controller in the air and they killed me.

In point lookout when the calvert mansion blows up, i was just minding my own business walking to the door then BOOM.

That was pretty awesome, my character actually flew backwards from the explosion.

When a guy came up to me with a gun demanding I hand over some underwear I found.

Needless to say his head came off quite nicely.

I gave it to him then killed him and hacked off his limbs before taking the underwear and his caps back

I did speech so that he surrendered and left, I then followed after him and crippled his legs with the dart gun before using the old ripper.

-cruelty brings tear of happiness to my eye- = D, supposedly he had a brother you can do that to too.

Exited a Metro Station to hear some commotion off to my right. I turned and followed the noise to see a band of 5 raiders circling and beating up a naked old guy LOL.

I took out all the raiders and saved the old dude thinking it would yield some sort of reward... no such luck. I then proceeded to end the old guys life, he wouldn't have got far in the wasteland like that anyway

First prize to the time I was at a friend's house, playing our shared guy, and I walk into Moriarty's, wanting to sell some shit, when a plasma 'nade flies in from nowhere, and blows up the damn lot of em, 'sept the whore and a random citizen. I turn and find a BoS guy, opening up on them with a Gatling Laser, then disappearing. Big WTF?! moment, seeing as how it was our first day of playing it, and we were level 3.

Runner up was when my brand new level 2 goes running off into the wastes, and gets found by a Behemoth. I empty my hunting rifle, and most of my 10mm rounds, along with 3 grenades into it, and it finally dies. While fighting, I was running, and jumped off a rocky hill, which it (Mercifully) got stuck on, sitting like a lemon as I waste it and my ammo. I got 3 Mini Nukes and other random good shit from the fucker.
