I know. I was completely caught off guard by that one. Then suddenly I remembered Mrs. Wilson saying "we'd love to have you for dinner sometime". It was a mind trip for me.

I'm sorry to hear that, and I apologize profusely for laughing... hard.

I had played Fallout 3 for about fifty-five hours and the most spectacular death I ever saw was when my friend came over and tried it and immediately used VATS to shoot a female soldier who was running at him in the head. In slow motion she was decapitated, her body flipped around a hundred eighty degrees and her foot KICKED HER OWN HEAD further into the background.

Am I the only one who DIDN'T blow up Megaton.
No, I didn't either. Actually, that's not true; I blew it up on my second playthrough, then felt so bad that I started over.

Anyway, the...er, experience in Point Lookout (you know what I mean) was one such moment. Stepping out of the Vault for the first time was the other.

EDIT:Oh, I had another. Once, I was walking in the Wastes. I hear a noise and turn around. I'm being followed by a Giant Radscorpion and an Albino Radscorpion, and they are being followed by 2 Deathclaws. I immediately start sneaking (my logic being that, even if they know I'm there, I'm automatically a lower priority), and the Deathclaws kill the scorpions, but not before the Albino killed one of them. Now, I was using the Chinese Stealth Armor, so by this time I'm hidden. I ended the encounter with a VATS Sneak Attack with The Mauler on the last Deathclaw.

Mirelurks. My arch enemies. You will see many more of them in the future.
Second that. The hell with Jaws; Mirelurks are the real reason wastelanders don't go in the water. My first encounter with these guys was when I was level four, and two of them came up out of the water at me in the dead of night near Arefu. Needless to say, I was freaking out (and dead shortly thereafter). By the way, besides going for the head, flamers are REALLY effective at taking these guys out if you're a big guns person. That's my preferred approach for dealing with them, especially the Hunters.

My honorable mention would have to be my first Behemoth encounter. Holy cow, I was not expecting anything like that, I can tell you that right now. Furthermore, I didn't have a Fat Man, so I had to cower where it couldn't get to me and slooooowlly chip away his health with my small arms.

edit: And no, I didn't nuke Megaton either.

Without a doubt the Hallucinagenic sequence in Point Lookout.

It was not just wonderfully demented and scary but also pretty emotionally harrowing when you
find your dead mother's corpse
.

Also I can't belive how many fucking web critics are ruining this moment by giving away all its details in thier reviews. Idiots.
That's up there for me too. All those bobbleheads you find during that were actually hilarious to read for me.

Anyway, I liked when I found the Firelance blaster. Boom! Huge Explosion out of nowhere.
Also when I went into that one vault (108 I think) that had drugs in the ventilation system so everything turns purple in some areas and you hear weird noises. Creepy.

I surprised myself just how powerful I became when I got my grubby little paws on the Deathclaw Gauntlet. I had 10 Luck and the Better Criticals perk. With a sneak attack, stuff goes down rather quickly, even things in Power Armor.

EDIT:
PC Version: Explode someone (particularly a humanoid enemy) while clipping is off (type "tcl" without the quotes in the console).

When blowing up Megaton did not yield an equal number of missions. There I was thinking the developers that give two distinct paths (Good and Evil) would make them equal. Nope. Blowing up Megaton gives you about 3 missions with Tenpenny Tower, as opposed to all the missions you get in the Survival Book chain alone. And me without a save point prior. Sad day.
You can still do the wasteland survival guide chain. Moira gets turned into a ghoul and heads to underworld.

The dreaded Mirelurk. They mean certain doom for low level players. I can only give you one piece of advice; aim for the head.
Actually the best strategy against mirelurks is to make sure you are either level with them or below them, then blow thir heads off.
Well my strategy for mirelurks is to just hit them with Shiskebab whilst dodging their blows. It's not that hard unless a hunter corners you in a small room. Then you're pretty much fucked.

Yeah, Shishkebab is your friend against those Mirelurk hunters. I go all Oblivion on them: Block, SLash, Block, Slash...

Sneaking through the streets, heading towards the radio station, all of a sudden come out of the subway station and all these super mutants shooting at me. I cower and hide in the radiation shelter, next thing I know they're all dead and there's a bunch of guys in power armour waiting for me. Man I was glad the brotherhood of steel were around, then I followed them off and just sat back, me being a little weakling, them slaughtering all who opposed. Then one of the guys who was asleep just let me take his power armour.

Also when I headed to that BoS place where you fix the radio, super mutants chasing me and me seeing BoS guys again. Those guys are lifesavers.

So...did you win or lose?

I keep hearing about the dreaded albino rad scorpion so even with that gun you might of been torn to shreds.

Hell I'm considering picking up entomologist just to deal with them in the future. I can't use my normal dart gun + flamer strategy on them, so I'll need a combat boost.

I agree with that sequence in point lookout after you smell the punga seeds.
It was so freaky with all the bobbleheads talking about how much you suck and the exploding nuka cola quantums.
Freaky shit.

I won. They're tough, but not as much as everyone makes them out to be. Still, I was already at half health, so I came this close to dying. Still, Vengeance is awesome.

My most surprising moment in Fallout 3 would have to have been the hallucinogenic Vault. That one was a complete mindfuck at 1 in the morning. Honourable mention goes to the Dunwich Building

Absolutely this. Only make it 2 in the morning. With a friend who isn't easily startled freaking out.

Not fun.
