It's been quite a while since I kinda stopped following Escapist's game reviews. Nothing personal, it's just that these days only the XBox version of games are reviewed, which means I'm left with no idea about how the PC version is. Case in point, when Tito reviewed DA2No, I don't agree with the 5-star review either, but for the love of Cthulhu lets not go there, since a bajillion threads have already been dedicated to that cause., the XBox version didn't have auto-attack (which Bioware later patched in, I'm told), and I had no way of knowing from the review that it wasn't the case for the PC version (which, frankly, was a pretty big deal). In fact, these days the only reviews I follow are of Yahtzee's, Steve Butts' and Andy Chalk's.

Anyway, instead, I've been haunting Rock Paper Shotgun a lot lately - rather reliable and frequented by gentlemen. Besides that, Eurogamer hasn't disappointed me yet, and I regularly contrast other reviews with their's. I've been a bit wary of PC Gamer, though, since they wrote that piece on Blizzard back in March, which sounded like an advert.

Anyway, what about you guys?

I don't trust any reviewers. I'll form my own opinion on things. I like different things from "critics", and I'm not going to base my decisions on what total strangers think about things.

I just go to Metacritic and read all of the awful critical reviews. It seems like there's far more bullshit in the high scores than there are in the low ones. Plus I'm able to decide if the perceived flaws in the game are ones that are going to bother me.

So far?

3. John Funk of the Escapist
2. John Holmes of Dtoid
1. Carolyn Gudmundson of GamesRadar

Those are my Top 3. In reverse order.

I'd have to say the Escapist, but I also check many other sites as well.

But I tend to disagree with most reviewers. My list of best games usually only get between 6-8 most of the time.

Step 1: Is this a game I'd like?
Step 2: Can I just borrow this from a friend?
Step 3: Does it seem like something that would last a while?
Step 4: Is there a legal way to get this cheap?

Those, plus reviews from biased [perfectly not-at-all reasonable people] aren't the only ways I can get information on games. I can read the details of a game in any article.

If your answer isn't Yahtzee you're wrong.

good or bad Yahtzee's honest.
The funny thing is that he isn't at all and criticizes everything for so-called "comedic value".

He's not a reviewer. He's a critic, and a mediocre-at-best one at that.

I'm gonna catch some hell for it, but I check ign to read and watch reviews then check the scores given by other reviewers. I also check G4 and Gametrailers. I mosey around the internet and collect info to help me make a decision.

Blunty3000. He's a Youtube reviewer that does videos on games, cameras, any new tech he's stumbled across or even just a rant on a particular piece of stupidity he's recently witnessed. And it's all done with a light-hearted feel so it's always worth a watch.

When I first found him I couldn't believe it, as he was saying things I'd thought for ages!

Buy console games retail, EB Games and GAME have a 7 day return policy. If a game sucks take it back.
Also, there's the option to get a scratch protection, if you decide in 10 days that the game is shit, it becomes scratched (knock the 360 while game is in, or just leave it on the table whatever) take it back and ask for a different game of equal value to the purchase price.
