I only have two "real" pet-peeves when it comes to music.

The first is poor music association or genre confusion. For example, when someone mentions techno or electronic music and the first (and often only) thing that pops into someones head is trashy, awful dance-club trance. I hate that.

What bugs me is, when people mention dubstep today the only thing most people associate it with is brostep. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING. Brostep is a sub-genre of dubstep. (an absolutely horrid abomination of a sub-genre, in my opinion) It would be like saying pop-soft-rock is indicative of ALL rock music. It makes no sense.

The second "pet-peeve" is when the worst songs in a genre become the most popular (giving far more attention to the talentless hacks of the field) while the better songs and artists go almost entirely unnoticed. (or worse, are actually labeled as "bad" compared to the more popular artists)

Not even speaking on the quality of the compositions, just listen to the lyrics. The sheer difference between the two is striking. One is inspirational, emotional, and uplifting; while the other is just confrontational and boorish.

It sickens me to see one of these become immensely popular and the other go down in obscurity.
The second one is definitely true for Grunge.

It's always Nirvana this, Nirvana that, Nirvana created Grunge, Kurt Cobain is God, I want to snort Cobain's ashes...What about Mudhoney, or one of the real originators of the genre like the U-Men and Tad, or hell...even some Soundgarden, or frikken Pearl Jam will do.

There is so much good stuff in that genre that was overshadowed by the juggernaut that is Nirvana. They weren't even as good as the others as well, and they pretty much ripped the Pixies off anyway, so they weren't all that original.

Here's a challenge for all you guys: Go up to any kid wearing a Nirvana shirt, and ask them to name five Grunge bands, and guess what, nine times out of ten I bet you they will only say one, or maybe two if by any chance they know Pearl Jam.

*sounds of broken refrigerators*

and you guys consider Dubstep not music...

/musicnerdrage

Also, don't Sunn play like three chords in a single song? God forbid if they make an album where they crank it up to four chords.

That would really be one for the music books.

I can't speak for how other fans experience the sound, but to me it's very similar to movie scores.
It's not about individual notes or sounds. It's the atmosphere that everything creates.
Sunn O))) has some wonderfully creepy stuff. That's why I like it.

However if you are uninterested in having a discussion please continue slinging image macros about.
Perhaps I will see a new one.

It's not like I'm saying it's gotta be only Guitars, Only Basses, Only Drums. No no no. All I am saying is a Keyboard and Drum Machine shouldn't do it all.

The thing I dislike lies, like in most things I dislike, in the fanbase of genres.

People tend to forget that every genre has certain charactersticas and tend to call out popular music / popular bands for their repetitive nature. But don't you dare point out how their favorite bands of the genres follow the same rules and structures. And don't get me started on metalheads who harp on the "shittyness" of Lady Gaga while listening to music which in most cases did not had as much thought and work put into it as the ones they call out.

Just so I am on the same page as everybody: I like music, not genres. I have my favorite bands but I can point out how things I dislike myself have qualities to it. Or how people are hypocrits when it comes to popmusic.
YOU AGAIN.
I'm sorry, but I'll have to agree to this guy, I listen to all kinds of music, but sadly I hang with alot of "metal-heads" who mocks rap, electronic, pop and every mainstream kind of music which makes me a bit sad that somebody can be so ignorant. Oh, and when I try to defend mainstream music, they might start mocking me for having "bad taste".
Hooray for taking entertainment seriously.

I take it your obviously not a fan of rap or electronic

sampling and music production actually takes some skill, especially with eletrectronic music to sound like "actual music" and not cheap/tacky....alot of my favorte songs use thease techniques

or what about Nine Inch Nails? the guy who pretty much invented the industrial metal genre....there's no denying the musical awsomeness there...and he thrives on thease "fake" things, it gives him his sound/mood/everything

its not a question of skill or how its put together, just a question of sound, you may not like the way it sounds which is fine but it doesnt make the music any less

It adds power and intensity. Well, in my opinion. That's why I like it.
I also find it annoying. I like my power and intensity to come from a good set of pipes or from <youtube=jZNk35OJERI>

Opinions.

Please Don't Kill Me...

I happen to dislike Sunn, and I like atmospheric stuff, that's why I listen to Shoegaze, and Similar sounding stuff like the Angelic Process, and Jesu. Which you should probably check out if you are a fan of Sunn by the way.

I rarely like growled vocals, and Sunn has that in spades. Plus they stick to the same style throughout, and don't really change things up a bit. The same with most Drone bands really, not just Sunn. Well, That's just my opinion about Sunn anyway.

It's really not my thing at all, but Apples and Oranges I suppose. Many people seem to like them including you, so what do I know.

Nope, nor am I a fan of Metal! I'm a Psychedelic Rocker, and one of the best modern day bands is MGMT, people who started off as a band that was Electronic (As well as Psych Rock). though I do prefer Congratulations to Oracular Spectacular. And most of the time, Electronic sounds fake to me. I sort of have this good ear with Music, and when something sounds fake to me, it most likely is.

Nah it's okay. I just thought was about to devolve into "Sunn isnt music lol" jokes and just wanted to have a nice discussion.
It's cool if you don't enjoy them.

And I apologize it wasn't my intention to make it sound like all people who like atmosphere enjoy Sunn. Just that I do. :)

I LOVE Jesu. First time I heard Stanlow on the tv randomly it just sort of entranced me.
Mmm I've heard of Angelic Process. I'll check'em out sometime, thank you.

It is true a lot of Sunn songs use very harsh vocals, but I would like to point out they have a number of songs that are purely instrumental. Those are the ones I tend to like best.
Earth is very similar but they tend to go for a less evil atmosphere. Specially with their last album. It was very....eclectic I must say.

I'm not here to attack your music preferences. I like what I like, you do too.
I just wanna talks abouts it in a nice manner. : )

riiiight...so you didnt like their electronic songs?

[spoiler/][/spoiler]

its got NOTHING to do with being "fake" but all about sound and emotion

back to Nine Inch nails

his use of sounds/electronic/distortions is angry and gritty, it sets the mood for the song

or take one of his earlyer songs, composed of nothing but what you call "fake" ness

belive it or not I actually find the music incredibly pleasing to my ears

Screaming into the mic during the whole song is one of them, and even screaming for no damn reason for a bit is annoying. If I can't understand a word you're saying then you need to work on enunciating and not sound like a drunken sailor trying his damnedest to ruin his vocal cords.

That's okay, most of my original post was satire anyway.

I just love to express my feelings towards the band, everytime someone mentions them.

Also, about their lack of chords.

Did you know they have a Parody band called \\\Maytag.

Hilarious stuff!
