My country (England) has no official national anthem, instead we use God Save the Queen, which is the enthem for the Uk as a whole. Therefore I'm a little jealous of other countries in the UK who have their own awesome, patriotic anthems (especially the Scots, who have a truly rousing anthem. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybxfZoT6VHQ&feature=related]) I and many others think our anthem should be changed to Jerusalem, which is far better to sing along to, as well as being more unique to us.

So my question to you is do you like your national anthem, and if you had the choice what would you change it to? It can be literally anything, it doenst have to be especially anthem-y, just something that you think would work :D

Fire away people :)

Americas national anthem is kinda meh, I would change it to this.

I think Furburt would approve of the last one a bit.

America's is alright, I just wish that they would get singers who actually know how to sing instead of that warbling shit.

I'm quite content with our anthem, provided it is played at a fast pace. Otherwise it tends to drag on forever.

Edit: I'm Canadian, for all of you who are too damn lazy to look at my profile.

I hate the anthem of my country (God Save The Queen). When I think of an anthem, I think of something inspirational and something that makes a person wanna be patriotic, but God Save The Queen just doesn't do it. All it does is make us sound weak, oh god save us, well not even us, just the queen. I honestly don't get the words in the anthem, makes no sense.

Well I'm Irish, and I believe our national anthem was written somewhere else by an Aussie, or something. Not quite sure. However, I'd probably call "The Fields of Athenry" the REAL Irish anthem. You can't go to a sport event in Ireland without it being sung, and that's the real test isn't it?

Well how about "Rule Britannia", that's quite rousing. Is that ever used for anything anymore?

Would be nice if you said where you are from. Or what your anthem was.

I am not a fan of the US national anthem. It has rockets and bombs, wartime imagery and the "America Wins! FUCK YEAH!" bit to it that attach the huge asshole mentality to everyone in our country.
And it's lame sounding.

I've heard multiple stories of "America the Beautiful" was the other option for the American national anthem and honestly I'd prefer that one. "Star spangled banner" is a pretty good song and poem but the rampant jingoism is getting a little old.

The tune to the USA's anthem is good, but I wish the lyrics were more descriptive of the country and not a battle. I think I would prefer "America the Beautiful", which I think actually was the anthem for a time.

Now, Japan really needs a new anthem. Can't post a link now, but find it and give it a listen. I don't know how anyone can evoke national pride through something that sounds so depressing to me. But although I live here, I didn't grow up here, so there's likely an aesthetic there I don't understand.

I love Fields of Athenry, tis a great song. But then I love Irish music in general. Agreed though, it would make a good anthem.

As far as Rule Brittania goes, that's a good idea, but it's probably been deemed to Imperialist to be allowed nowadays. Shame really.

Yeah, it just doesnt cut the mustard, it's just so dreary. The only OK bit is the "send us victorious, happy and glorious" part. The rest of it is lame. Jerusalem is a far better option for England.

I think Canada's anthem is awesome. I also find it funny when people complain because the word "God" is in it. It makes me chuckle.

I'm pretty happy with "O Canada". It seems pretty basic, we're proud of our country and we love freedom. I think it's interesting that the French version (the original) has different lyrics. Obviously they couldn't just translate it word for word and have it fit in and rhyme but there's definitely some different messages in there.

I also think it's kind of silly that people complain about the word "God" in it. The line "in all our son's command" is probably next on the hit list, too sexist!

Compared to Australia's national anthem, America's is bliss.

'America, Fuck Yeah!' is a pretty good representation of what I think our anthem should be.

It pretty much sums up what people from other countries think we see ourselves as.

America's Anthem should be this:

You win. I'd rather have either one of these anthems as my countries own.

Jerusalem is good too, though I find it too much like a Church Hymn. Still, bloody rousing song, and maybe this is more important than the lyrics. God Save our Queen is interesting when you consider the lyrics:

Confound their politics? The anthem actually want political unrest in the countries of our enemies? Quite at odds with today.

But Advance Australia Fair can be sung to the tune of the Gilligan's Island theme... often appropriate given what our government(s) get up to.

It is a bit embarassing during the Tri-Nations that South Africa and New Zealand have multi-lingual anthems and we stick to English

The Australian Anthem sucks, I would change it to this.
