that's funny I was just finishing listening through Cacophony's second album while I read that
lol i luv speed metal symphoney and the thought of marty and jason playing together is my wet dream but i much perfer his actual solo album ever hear it ? its called perpetual burn its how allllll guitarists should make theyre solo albums (michal angelo batio cough yngwie cough) impressive technically while still sounding bach reincarnate (listen to song called altitudes)
and not to just be sucking up but trash , prog and glam are my favourites too haha
Yea speed metal symphony is so badass I say concerto is one of my favorite guitar pieces ever written since I fuckin love neo classical shred.
nah I haven't I've read about it online but I haven't actually gotten around to listening through it yet but I will as soon as I can now.
very nice It's always nice to see fans of the best kind of metal
I think metal has a lot in common with rap lyric and theme wise (grated it has less songs about going to the club, "selling" drug, and having nice expensive stuff, but a large number of them are about violence, and many of them objectify women.
Over all though I don't really get metal. I used to listen to it a lot in high school but I find myself to mellow to listen to metal or mainstream rap for that matter. I just think Metal is to angry and I am rarely angry now that I am not run by unstable hormone influenced emotions
Nothing wrong with it and every once and awhile I pull some out and give it a listen but for the most part I listen to underground hip-hop, electronica, and jazz (I know weird combination)
...wait, do you have this list saved on your computer or something? It seems like this is the work of CTRL-C + CTRL-V rather than you actually remembering and typing out each band.
BTW it's good to see someone recommending Within Temptation around here. They may not be ridiculously popular but their music rocks.
A bit of both actually: I had created an even larger list by hand in another thread when somebody asked me what I listened to, and today I just skimmed through it and copied all the names I remembered as being some variety of metal, and added a few new ones from my personal collection to it.
Appearing on the list isn't an indication of how much I like something, just that I liked at least one of that artist/band/project's songs - it's eminently possible I only like that one song and loathe everything else they've ever produced. Or perhaps I think they can do no wrong and everything they touch turns to gold - I'm whimsical like that sometimes.

(Then there's Adelita's Way, Amberian Dawn, Beyond Twilight, Coronatus, Katra, Luca Turilli's solo albums, Lunatica, Operatika, Queensryche, and Unsun which aren't on my Pandora station but are part of my music collection.)
Within Temptation is indeed awesome, they were actually my 'introduction' to symphonic metal, and I can trace all the other bands on that list I created for you back to discovering them (believe it or not, I can eventually trace everything on the complete list back to Sarah McLachlan). Since you like them I shall recommend Blackmore's Night - not metal at all really [small](though founded by legendary metal guitarist Richie Blackmore from Deep Purple and Rainbow)[/small] but it's excellent all the same, and Pandora considers them similar to Within Temptation in style.
Edit: Ran into a new one I liked so much I was compelled to buy the album, confirm that it was awesome, and pass the recommendation along - Ride The Sky.
Otherwise known as Power Metal, which is a lot easier to type if less descriptive.
[small]Though you don't actually have to be Scandinavian to be in a Power Metal band, just from somewhere in Europe or perhaps South America - for instance, Helloween is usually considered the grandfather of that particular sub-genre and they are from Germany, as are Edguy, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, etc. Here in America where I live there are just slightly more than zero Power Metal bands (the only one I can think of right now is Kamelot, and their vocalist is Norwegian so they almost don't count, heh - but then Sepultura (not power metal in any way!) is from Brazil but their vocalist hails from Cleveland, Ohio).[/small]
Anyways, I'd avoid using -core to describe anything that isn't some combination of hardcore and metal and thus befitting of the -core suffix, as general metal fans tend to see that suffix as a pejorative (especially Deathcore - Deathcore bands don't even like being called Deathcore).
I absolutely love metal and basically all kinds (that I have listened to so far, and this goes for kinds like symphonic power metal (Nightwish) all the way to progressive death metal (Opeth) and melodic death metal (DevilDriver, In Flames, Children of Bodom). I am quite diverse.)
However, while I most certainly do love metal, I really do think it's about time the Escapist talked about something else for once, as people here dwell on metal FAR too much.
It's a fairly decent genre. There's a lot of great talent involved, and there's always something interesting going on. Also, nothing can really compare to an awesome solo or an insane breakdown.
i wont ever be able to support metal enough, i love metal, the best genre in the world, the best community in the world, and once you're a metal head, you always will be
and if you aren't then i dont care cuz we dont need you
You should check out Avantasia (a side project of Tobias Sammet, the vocalist from Edguy, that's basically a giant power metal supergroup with loads of guest vocalists) and Rhapsody of Fire (basically Man o' War if they wore something other than loincloths, sounded less angry, sang about wizards, and were not a subtle self-parody) if you haven't already.
Dont you mean older bands such as Metallica or Iron Maiden... you know THE ACTUAL OLD METAL BANDS, these made metal popular Disturbed didnt show up until late 90's
More and more every day I'm drawing closer to the conclusion that metal's dying at the hands of bands who use lame riffs, high pitched -core screaming and a tendency to rely on their image as a selling point rather than actual structural integrity, lyrical meaning and some fucking balls.
Cases in point:
Five Finger Death Punch
Bring Me The Horizon (not even metal...but their fanbases will argue)
Avenged Sevenfold
Bullet For My Valentine
Suicide Silence
Papa Roach
These bands are killing metal and need to be silenced!
I love it, though I don't have much time to listen to music these days (I'm far too busy with school, gaming and anime) and I'm too lazy to replace the bateries of my mp3.

The genre of metal irritates me because its a bunch of untalented musicisians struming power chords really fast and banging on drums really loudly.
However, there are some talented metal bands like the Disturbed and Metallica. I just hate Slipknot and those other copycat bands that are just like Spipknot or trying really hard to be like Slipknot.
Any reason you hate slipknot 'cos as far as I am aware they never copied any body.
Joey can play drums really well, Mike and James can play guitar really well, Cid is good on the decks, Shaun and Craig are ok just Corey isn't the greatest singer.
I would like disturbed if you took out the absurd lyrics, I love there intro's but the lyrics ruin it for me.
I am very picky about the music I listen to, there are some bands I should like and I don't and I don't know why, such as Metallica, AC/DC, guns and roses etc. it just doesn't make me think "I like this", I am not saying it's crap though.
