Your opinion of metal...

I like metal, but i do not like the heavy/growly stuff. I hover around the symphonic power proggie metal areas of the genre, but i really love a bit of Iron Maiden.

Within Temptation is indeed awesome, they were actually my 'introduction' to symphonic metal, and I can trace all the other bands on that list I created for you back to discovering them (believe it or not, I can eventually trace everything on the complete list back to Sarah McLachlan). Since you like them I shall recommend Blackmore's Night - not metal at all really [small](though founded by legendary metal guitarist Richie Blackmore from Deep Purple and Rainbow)[/small] but it's excellent all the same, and Pandora considers them similar to Within Temptation in style.

Thanks for posting them vids, Blackmores Night sounded great, and Ride the Sky was good too, i've noted both of them bands down.

For the benifit of anyone else, i'll post a few youtube vids of some other good metal bands which i like. For those who do not like metal because it mainly consists of screaming angry long haired men, i ask that you have a listen to these bands, just so you know that not all metal sounds like you think it does.

Bruce Dickinson, the vocalist for Iron Maiden, "solo" work. Bloody good stuff, if you like Iron Maiden and reakon Bruce is a good singer, you'll like his work.


Middnattsol, a nordic folk-metal band. No, they do not sound like korpiklaani, they sound like a slightly more metally verion of Within Temptation. The vocalist has a really hallowing voice, and their songs tend to theme around Nordic or Celtic nature mysticism, its pretty, symphonic stuff.


Going into the wierd and wonderful realm of Prog-Metal now, with a beautiful song by Ayreon
This comes from an album called "The Human Equation" and it features the story of a man in hospital, presumbily in a coma. Whilst he is in a coma, these voices come to him and they tell him the story of his life. This song tells of how he met his wife, and is told by the voices of love, passion, pride anger and others.



Finally, not quite departing the world of proggresive metal, i'll finish with the Swiss prog-power metal band Neverland. Great lyrics, full of imagery, sound's good all around.

i fucking love metal
mainly the old bands, like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motorhead etc. im also kinda into death metal, mostly Arch Enemy and Cannibal Corpse, but not as much as thrash and british metal
so many people say metal sucks to me, and it pisses me off. they dont get what the music is about. its not like your into it one year, then not. your always a fan pretty much. youll always love a certain band. and the people that say metal sucks, dont ever listen to it. most likely not even once.

I thoroughly enjoy good metal more than good music of other genres. At times it gets monotonous when they show off how skilled they are, and play so quickly its boring, but they usually dont have much musical talent, and so I dont really listen to them. Even the singing can be good, for example Avenged Sevenfold.

Have you heard of Delain? They basically grew out of Within Temptation (the keyboard player used to be in WT, and is the brother of the guitarist). They're pretty cool.
I enjoy metal and rock, will listen to most stuff however.

I'm an outspoken fan of the metal genre, especially Scandinavian bands and Disturbed. I've been listening to metal since the first time I watched The Matrix and heard Rob Zombie's Dragula during the club scene. Since metal is getting back into the mainstream for the first time since the 80s (thanks primarily to bands like Disturbed), I want to hear your opinion of the genre.

Overall I like the music genre. It's not afraid to talk about awkward and "taboo" stuff, and often has some really awesome tunes. I'm also a particular fan of the bass and drums. There's something so primal about the deep notes and sounds they produce.

Just like any other genre, some of it is awesome, and some is shit.

However it seems like most progressive music nowadays has metal roots, so that is a big plus for metal IMO.
