To me, the Escapist community is a group of people that can hold a conversation with multiple opposing viewpoints and not have it devolve into a shouting match. On the Internet, especially in video game forums, that's a rare thing. Y'all are a swell bunch, and I'm glad to be here.
Good for discussion and a laugh, but we are a cynical bunch. Still way better then any other forum I have visited though.
You take the ego and the personality of a hipster and take all the opinions of nerds and you have the escapist community. Replace Radiohead with Valve and Neutral Milk Hotel with Bioware, Replace the words Indie Artist and Indie Developer, ad words like edgy and Enotastic and you couldn't tell the difference between here, Tumblr and Pitchfork.
Hell you still have people here pre-yahtzee and they will tell you, they were here before it was cool.

A lot of whom which seem to take pride in having different opinions, and becoming very aggressive about it. Which is just one thing I don't get. Though, I guess that's everywhere regardless.

I usually only come here to watch yahtzee, unskippable, and the occasional funny series such as Apocalypse Lane.
I only ever come to the forums to listen to hilarious opinions I disagree with, and then watch someone say something smart.

It's great, with the exception of:
-Furries
-Yahtzee fanboys
-Any elitist subset of Yahtzee fanboys, meaning pretty much anyone who goes around cribbing notes from Yahtzee without actually admitting it.
-Persecution complex gamers. Quick test to see if you fall into this category: You just found out about some horrible public massacre! What is your first thought? If your answer was "Oh no! Now people will attack my precious games!" then you are a Persecution Complex Gamer. Congratulations.
-Insufferable Cynics, meaning people who have the stupidity to think that life sucks, despite having the ability to post about how much life sucks on the FUCKING INTERNET. WITH A FUCKING COMPUTER. ON A SITE ABOUT FUCKING VIDEOGAMES. Also, anyone who can use the phrase "sheeple" without immediately and involuntarily punching their own balls.
-People who actually buy into crap like the "Console Wars" and, thus, inherent console superiority.
-People who can't take a fucking joke. Note that I do not mean to imply that any of the above text was a joke; it wasn't. Just saying that a lot of you can't take a damn joke.
