Most likely because what you said was quite a trollish thing to say, and if you are indeed a troll, then no one is obligated to acknowledge your opinion. You aren't a troll, are you?
Irony...

As for these forums; they don't really do anything particularly well. In terms of actual discussion about video-games GameFaqs is far superior; when it comes to off-topic there're a million better forums out there, and so on. However we seem to get a constant stream of these posts telling everyone how amazing this forum is [usually from people who admit they don't travel to other forums] insulting and mocking other places as though they're so intelligent and smart for posting of The Escapist...

When in fact the opposite is true, this place is a dump, there's next to no particularly interesting discussion, and if you try to make it be prepared to have your comments quoted completely out of context by the inevitable wave of opening posters followed by everyone else copying those opinions.
Fair points, I've never actually seen a thread here asking for help with a game, and I have seen better off topic forums. The Monster Hunter off topic threads on Neoseeker were the best of them, where you could discuss literally anything in one thread, and there were real friendships, feuds and friendly rivalries. That community, however, has sadly become completely extinct.

What do you mean ironic? You're not saying I'm also a troll, are you?:) Because that wasn't my intention, if so.

To sum up my opinion of the overall community in one word: Immature.

I often hear people on this forum spewing nonsense of how this is one of the more mature parts of the internet or how this is an accepting forum but when I see a thread like this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.256958-Do-People-Like-Fred?page=1] and seeing people wish death upon someone who they dislike but could easily ignore and calling people who do enjoy something they don't "things", how could I think anything other than that this forum is immature?

Don't even get me started on how immature more than half this forum is when it comes to video games.

Also you people ***** about threads with no discussion value yet when a thread comes along with any you just leave a post and never come back. Discussion at its finest.

No complaints, generally a very reasonable community.

What I don't like is the sheer number of faux-cynical kids (because c'mon, we all know it's kids) who feel the need to mention in every single post that humans are shit and they hate people and everyone is a cold, dead monster in their heart-of-hearts. Seriously people, you hate everyone else that fucking much then stop socializing on the internet.
But what would all those totally cool words about the worthlessness of humanity be worth if there weren't any humans to see just how cool they were?

Average. There's nice people and there's douchebags here, just like every other forum.
No opinions on your post, just saying I love your username, it made me laugh, if for all the wrong reasons.

I generally enjoy the content of the Escapist. It's somewhere to go online to pass the time or avoid college work.

I'm not a fan.

My biggest problem with this community is many community members think these forums are so very special and different from the rest of the Internet, and that by extension THEY are special and different (and better) than the rest of the forum posters out there. This attitude extends beyond just the posters, too.

I like some of the content and Zero Punctuation, but many of the fine people here should seriously get over themselves. To quote Fight Club:

"You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake."

Many of the posters here whine and gripe about how much more other forums suck (and boast about how great TEM is), but you know what? I get a lot less rudeness, elitism and general crap (from both moderators and forum users) at Gamefaqs than I do here. Sure, YouTube is worse, but YouTube is worse than everyone.
This kind of thing is irritating though.
I don't mean to single you out because there are more people on this thread and all over the forum of the same opinion but if you're not a fan of the content, the moderators or the users then why are you here?
Sure there is a sense of smugness about the place but that exists everywhere on the internet and in the real world too. Who doesn't think their own little clique is the best?

You aren't a 'beautiful or unique snowflake' either. I honestly don't see the point in posting just to complain about how much you dislike the site.
If it's so awful then why not spend your time somewhere else?

True, but the delivery method is still based on interaction with other worthless humans. Far better to spraypaint your hatred on a random wall or send letters to strangers - that way you can still get the smug feeling of being better than everyone without actually having to associate with other people just so you can tell them they suck!

Anyone else notice how many people in this thread hate...well, everyone else?

"Everyone here are evil libruls!"
"Everyone on this forum is an elitist snob!"
"Everyone quotes Yahtzee!"
"Everyone thinks they're so super special!"

It makes me wonder what these people are doing wrong in order to get these sort of responses. I can't say I actively dislike anyone I've met here (though a few have been deeply, deeply stupid), and the discussion seems more rational than 90% of the internet. Yet somehow other people are apparently meeting their worst enemies.

Because the forum is average. It's not great by any stretch of the imagination, but it's not completely abysmal, it's just not what people claim it is [intelligent and/or unique].

Funny thing to say in a topic where people's opinions were requested. I gave my opinion. If it bugs you that much, than you have the problem, not I.
Doesn't particularly bother me, I'm just making a casual observation.

Correction; the serpent.
Regardless, I never said that it was perfect. Nor did I say that it was better, just different.

Devil - serpent, 50 year old - kleptomaniac; they are all the same to me. I mean come on, it's not like he was around asking Eve for directions now was he?

Biblical story aside though, if the present isn't reflective of the way things used to be then the obvious implication is that the past was better than the present. Not always a true inference but in this instance I can admit it to be so. True, that while not being part of the "golden gal" club of oldies that still linger around this fluorescent smorgasbord, I did feel that yesteryear had a bit of charm and warmth that is lacking in today's Re-Captcha infused forum.

Indeed.
