I've watched that episode to the end twice, and both times I have cried endlessly.

I too have had a faithful dog die on me, but the kicker is in the music and the fact that you're pretty much screaming "Why Fry! He waited for you, bring him to life!". However I recall in one of the recent Futurama films (or string of episodes as I saw it) which involved them discovering the timecode Fry ends up going back in time and having a good life with Seymour, it was such an obvious pander to the millions they'd upset with Jurassic bark but it worked.

There's something so deep about a relation between a person and a dog that always tugs on my heart strings more than almost anything else. I cried watching My Dog Skip as a kid, watching Marley and Me 2 years ago, and this episode also made me cry. Doggy...

Thanks for bringing back the flood of memories from that show, easily the saddest thing I had ever watched at the time, great episode and great show.
One of the first indications I saw that Will Smith can do drama, and do it pretty damn well. Very powerful stuff.

Yeah. The show is normally pretty goofy, so it kind of comes from out of nowhere.

I cried. Good job Futurama. To be fair though, I was kind of projecting my dog onto Seymour the whole time and the bit at the end got to me.

Whoa. Time for me to watch that show again, I missed that one.

That episode is indeed sad. In the first movie though, Fry goes back to the year 2000 and lives a full life with Seymour. So that helps a little I think.

If that episode and this thread are part of a greater conspiracy to make me go and hug my dog, you have succeeded.

pretty much, I remember when I first watched it,I was always waiting for the episode to become as humourous as the other. Never thought futurama of all things could evoke such sadness as it did. I wonder if people who have never had dogs find it as emotional, not knowing first hand the connection that is created if you spend a lot of time with your companion.
At the time I first saw it, I never had a dog, only cats, but I still found it seriously emotional. But since then I have one and it's even more emotional than before. Brilliant episode and I never expected it to make my eyes tear up. Well done Mr. Groening.

Oh jeez...that episode and "Luck of the Fryish", and hell, even the one where Leela learns about her real parents (the montage at the end of the episode where you see all the little times her parents were there in her life...)

Yea, Futurama is one of the funniest shows ever, but good god it can also be a real downer.

It's a good episode, but I don't like watching it. I find it funny that they referenced fan reaction in one of the new episodes though.

I will say it exactly as David Cohen, executive producer of the show does in the DVD commentary.

If you dont cry at the end of Jurassic Bark, you're a cold hearted bastard.
Even robots cry at the end. No being, sentient or not, cannot cry at the end of Jurassic Bark.
In the words of xkcd: "We'd use that episode of Futurama with Fy's dog, but even spambots cry at that."

I don't cry at it much any more (depends on my mood), but the first time... lots of tears. The music, in my opinion, was absolutely perfect, I once looked it up to listen without the scene... still got teary.

Yet, I've heard one of the newer episodes (The Late Phillip J. Fry, I believe?) was even sadder. Damn inability to watch the new episodes is preventing me from seeing this, though.
Not a bad episode by any means, but not the saddest. I think the sad episode of that season was "Lethal Inspection," with the end of "The Mutants Are Revolting" as a close second.

All in my opinion, though.

If you watched the show you know what episode I am talking about.

I for one found it incredibly sad, as I assume I am not the only one. Especially since I have had a dog die on me, not like this of course but it reminded me of it.

:(

Whatever, this episode isn't canon anymore after Bender's Big Score. That dog died quickly and happily after Fry came back to him! LALALALALALALA NOT LISTENING!!!!

In all honesty I've watched it twice without commentary and I can't even stand to watch it WITH commentary. If you've ever owned a dog that you loved, it's the saddest thing imaginable.

I love that episode of Futurama. Why? I like my endings sad.

And, well, it's also Futurama, which is quite possibly most favorite show. To me, it's just crawling with awesome.
