Ohai there escapist, this is primarily for the drinkers amongst you, but if you do not partake then feel free to add your favourite non-alcoholic drink too :)

So yeah, what's your fave and least fave alcoholic drink/ coctail, and why? I'm interested to see what sort of answers I get, seeing as this is a fairly multi-national site I'm sure there'll be a good range of answers seeing as how such preferances differ across the world :D

For me, my favourite drink has to be Guinness. It's like a meal in a glass, but a freezing, smooth, tasty meal. It's gotta be from a tap though, the bottled stuff is like ass water.

Failing that, I'd choose one of the local ales from my local pub, the Three Tunns that are brewed on site. Delicious.

Least favourite has gotta be Vodka and red bull. It's so fucking sickly sweet, it smells awful and it makes me puke. A truly foul concoction.

Anyway thats enough from me, fire away :D

I have not had a single alcoholic beverage but I will shortly be at drinking age. What should I try as my first drink? Should I expect my first drink to suck or be amazing?

Cider! Lager can suck a dick, bitter is much better, but cider is definitely my favourite alcoholic drink!

For beers, I usually go with a Hobgoblin Ale from Wychwood Breweries or a Duchesse De Bourgogne Flemish Red Ale. As for spirits; you just can't beat a nice glass of Johnny Walker Blue Label, on the rocks of course.

Uh.. There was some stuff back in Australia that was called Blue Vodka. It was really diluted vodka with a sort of bubblegum flavour. That's the only alcoholic drink that's even remotely tolerable to me.
Hm, sounds like VK or something, I'm not a fan of those sorta things to be honest they set my teeth on edge, but lots of people find em easy to drink. You can get em in all sorts of flavours, apple, orange, tropical etc. Basically like alcoholic fruit juices lol.

I have no idea, but I'd say that most people dont like beer the first time they drink it, its one of those things you have to work at. I suppose you might like cider more, seeing as its less bitter but I wouldnt liek to say.

I'd just suggest a lager for you're first drink, but thats just because I hate cider :p

Apple cider is too sweet for me, but have you ever tried Perry (pear cider) or any of the other fruit cider things that Koppaberg ( a Swedish company I think) make? They're a bit feminine, but they taste fucking lovely!

French Lager (Stella, Grolsch)
Red Wine
Bourbon

These are my alcoholic beverages of choice. Anyone else think vodka ruins orange juice and coke?

Its called 190 ( I think) Octane from Fat Tues Day, lmao jk it tastes like shit mixed with gasoline.

Usually I like alcohol only in slushy form...so Fat Tues Day's Hurricane has got to be my favorite...

Beer wise I guess Red Stripe, I don't like beer much.

I'd have to go with Black Sheep Ale. Very nice. Ales are my favourite alcoholic "genre" so to speak.
That my man, is a bloody good choice. It was in my local for a while, and while it was there, it was all I drank. Its nice from bottles too though :D

Have you tried a black and tan? Usually most bartenders know what that is. It is half guinness and half pale ale. The key is to get one of those tall beer glasses. Pour half glass of pale ale, rest fill glass with guinness by pouring over a spoon slowly. If done right, ale will stay at the bottom and guiness will stay on top due to difference of density in both beers. It is good. Surprisingly, you end up drinking both drinks at the same time.

I like a shot of 100% agave tequila chased by a bottle of Dos Equis is pure bliss.

Most people don't really like their first drink, give it a bit of time to find your drink of choice and don't I repeat DON'T mix 'types of drink e.g. grape and grain. You will regret it the next morning.

If you were thinking of beer/lager American drinks tend to be a bit more mild.

EDIT: Your first drink won't be that amazing, have a few though and you will feel good. I am assuming it will be a birthday celebration or simething? Alcohol in most peoples cases amplifies mood, so if you are happy you will probably feel more happy.

EDIt 2: Gin and tonic occasionally during the summer, perhaps towards the end of a barbeque with a spliff.

Perry's hit or miss for me, but done right it's really good! Depends on the brand of cider; some do apple better, some do pear. Cider as a whole is just a beautiful and liver-failure-inducing concept for me! Lager's just tasteless imo, and only really acceptable once you've had a few to cancel out any cares you have about taste.

For beer I'd go with Guinness or Baltika No 9. For hard liquor I've always preferred vodka, usually cold on the rocks or neat, but a vodka tonic is good as well. For whiskey I enjoy Wild Turkey, again on the rocks or neat, and for gin you can't go wrong with Beefeater for a great gin and tonic. Put in some lime and you've got yourself a great gin lime rickey.
