For beers, I usually go with a Hobgoblin Ale from Wychwood Breweries or a Duchesse De Bourgogne Flemish Red Ale. As for spirits; you just can't beat a nice glass of Johnny Walker Blue Label, on the rocks of course.
Ales are me favourite as well. I personally prefer Tribute Cornish Ale.

Vodka and redbull, so I can bounce off the walls while I trip over my feet.

For me, my favourite drink has to be Guinness. It's like a meal in a glass, but a freezing, smooth, tasty meal. It's gotta be from a tap though, the bottled stuff is like ass water.
Have you tried a black and tan? Usually most bartenders know what that is. It is half guinness and half pale ale. The key is to get one of those tall beer glasses. Pour half glass of pale ale, rest fill glass with guinness by pouring over a spoon slowly. If done right, ale will stay at the bottom and guiness will stay on top due to difference of density in both beers. It is good. Surprisingly, you end up drinking both drinks at the same time.

I like a shot of 100% agave tequila chased by a bottle of Dos Equis is pure bliss.
That sounds delicious! I bet it's pretty hard to make though, but I'm tempted to order one and see if they manage it. I'm not sure the places where I drink would know, but hey its worth a try :D

I'd just suggest a lager for you're first drink, but thats just because I hate cider :p
What is a lager?

*looks at Wikipedia*

Oh... What would you recommend then? Do you know any Canadian brews?
Sorry, being a Brit I dont much Canadian beer at all, but can you get Budweiser over there? Thats popular in the USA I think, so it's a possibility?

Cider! Lager can suck a dick, bitter is much better, but cider is definitely my favourite alcoholic drink!
Apple cider is too sweet for me, but have you ever tried Perry (pear cider) or any of the other fruit cider things that Koppaberg ( a Swedish company I think) make? They're a bit feminine, but they taste fucking lovely!
Perry's hit or miss for me, but done right it's really good! Depends on the brand of cider; some do apple better, some do pear. Cider as a whole is just a beautiful and liver-failure-inducing concept for me! Lager's just tasteless imo, and only really acceptable once you've had a few to cancel out any cares you have about taste.
Fair enough, I cant drink apple cider any more for various reasons, but yeah, good Perry is heavenly :D

if you ever see any of this around, give it a try :D

Agh that quote fucked up somewhere, but I think I got the right people :/

EDIT: fixed quotes

I have not had a single alcoholic beverage but I will shortly be at drinking age. What should I try as my first drink? Should I expect my first drink to suck or be amazing?
Gin and tonic, my drink of choice. It's alcoholic and has an interesting flavor, but it won't knock you on your butt the way a shot of whiskey will. A respectable first drink.

Also, good job waiting until drinking age, BTW. Underage drinking is more trouble than it's worth.

That my man, is a bloody good choice. It was in my local for a while, and while it was there, it was all I drank. Its nice from bottles too though :D
It gets around so it's not too hard to find. The brewery has a lot of experience behind it in both brewing and business, and it's apparently big in Japan. All that, and it was only started in 1992.

What also seals the deal is that the Black Sheep Brewery make an Official Monty Python ale.

I've yet to try it though.

Bourbon for me. Usually Jim Beam or Jack Daniels, but I get a bottle of Wild Turkey or some other brand every now and then.

I resisted offers of free drinks from under age "friends" at my aftergrad about ten times. I didn't succumb to temptation.

I don't need alcohol to be a big part of my life. I just want it on the side, to enjoy with friends :D

The most alcoholic beverage I've ever had was a 0.5% O'Douls. Seeing as how I am a good child, I have never had anything more than that.

Don't really want to either.

I've only seen it on their online store. It's not expensive at £12.45 + £8.99 shipping for 8 500ml bottles you are getting a good booze for about £2.70 a pint, and I've paid more for a good pint over the years. I've been tempted to buy some for a while now, and may get some for a party next week.

I have yet to make a pilgrimage to the brewery in Masham, but I hear it's good.

Yes. Vodka ruins anything. :p

Alcoholic: Pina Colada (self made...I used to be a bartender)
Captain Morgan's (Spiced Rum/Private Stock) straight, and cold
Jack Daniel's/ Jim Beam, straight and cold with a chaser.

Non alcoholic: Dr. Pepper, strawberry lemonade (meaning actual lemonade with a subtle but still noticeable splash of strawberry). Also, Brita Water. :p I suppose coke ice cream floats could fit in here at some point.

£2.70 approx per pint? A bargain I say! My old man's a fan of Black Sheep, so I'm sure I could convince him to help me finish them if I followed your lead an bought a pack of 8 :D

EDIT: what the fuck is wrong with these quotes? it keeps lumping them all into one :(

Vodka (sky or better quality) + whatever
Cranberry
Sprite
Orange Juice
Mt Dew
AMP is probably my fav to mix with vodka
Grenadine and Sweet and Sour
and many many more things

I don't like beer, and basically all alcoholic drinks have a particularly bad taste but vodka (to me) seems to slip back into the background of the stronger tastes like the ones I mentioned above.

It has actually surprised me that with today's science there has not been a non flavored, no taste alcoholic beverage released yet.

What so it would be like alcoholic water?

It would be boring as fuck, and a lot of people drink for the taste, not just to get pissed. So that would be kinda pointless.
