Alex Mercer mutation.
Huge nasty claws, insane whip-claw, bad-*ss blade, and chic armor form... Yeah, I'll take that.

There have been many colourful hand-to-hand weaponary so far, wrenches, bare fists, crowbars, daggers and so on. I thought the other day, what would I pick as my basic melee weapon if I was video game protagonist? I like the idea of a whip, with it's cool cracking sounds and flashy tricks, whereas something simpler like a large spanner would be more satisfying to whack an enemy with. With so many possibilities it's hard to decide what I would choose.

So I ask you, readers, what would you pick as your signature melee weapon?
Whips work well if whatever you are fighting is very lightly, unarmored, and susceptible to pain.

As you could almost literally stunlock something to death with a bullwhip due to them being half incapacitated due to pain.
it works for Simon Belmont

Seeing as I've always fancied stealth, a syringe of sedatives (if it counts). Replace with poison if I'm going after a target. It's just badass, and if it's good enough for Agent 47...

But if we're talking plain hand-to-hand, nothing beats the classic SOG knife. Admittedly, it's not as crazy or powerful as some of the other things I've seen on this thread, but it gets the job done.

Just for the fun of it, a cartoonishly large needle. Nothing's more fun than chasing down your enemies with a giant needle screaming "it will only hurt for a second". Plus you can even throw in horrible puns like "I think you see my point" or "put down the gun, someone may get a shot". Ah the fun I would have.

Tomahawk and gauntlet. I want to experiment with some weapons
including in experimentation
Vampire Killer from Lords of Shadow fully upgrade, that would be fun and deadly.

A two handed sword with a longer handle, so kind of like a glaive. It would be easier to carry I guess, along with the reach you could add alot more weight to your blow. Which would be damn awesome.

Twin flaming kunai on barbed wire.
For those who don't know what a kunai is, it looks like this:
funfact: kunai is little more than an glorified garden trowel
Lol, I know. It doesn't sound as badass when you put it that way though...
Fine, new option: The dagger dagger!
i wasn't trying to be derogatory, if anything using a garden trowel as a weapon is even more badass than using something that is designed from the get go to be a weapon
Oh, actually, I just kinda needed an excuse to use that "Dagger Dagger" picture. However, you're right: some of the coolest weapons are the ones that aren't meant to be used as so. For example, Chainsaws, believe it or not, were only used for cutting wood when someone said "Wait... this would be a badass anti zombie weapon!", and it was made so.
WAIT... DE-THATCHING RAKES... THEY'RE PERFECT...

Either my fists and feet and elbows and knees, because a body is a fine weapon, or a staff, because blunt trauma is fun.

Um, probably the Aperture Science Weighted Storage Cube, I would always pick that thing up and beat down turrets with it, and considering it was bullet-proof, that worked fairly well. ^-^
