Playstation 3: I prefer it because I have had playstation's as far as I could remember, and have simply never switched. I can also enjoy Ps1 games on my ps3, plus blu ray movies. The free online play is great too.

I also have a DS for Pokemon.

I bought my Wii for Zelda: Twilight Princess, My PS3 for FFXIII, and My PC because I got sick of waiting 10 seconds on the home computer for my presses to translate into things onscreen. I buy my consoles on the merits of what games they have. And while I do want a 360 for some of their exclusive JRPGs, im worried about the red ring of death. Ive heard of people getting 6 new 360s due to it.

I put the money I would spend on a 360 + PS3 combined into my Graphics Card. My Processor cost as much as a Wii.

I demand a superior gaming experience and the majority of the time I get it.

Sadly this beast of a rig is currently being used to play Minecraft and 10 year old games I picked up in the GOG sale so... yeah. While I can play Just Cause 2 and Crysis 2 at full settings when I want to, there are also a ton of non graphically intensive games that just blow you away.

Try playing AI War or Mount & Blade Warband on the console...

I bought a 360 because I owned an Xbox, logical progression. However, the reason I bought an Xbox instead of a PS2 is because where I live, all the PS2 games were in Japanese and the Xbox games were mostly, but not all, in English. Oddly, this doesn't seem to be an issue with the PS3. I still plan on buying a PS3 when I can get a good deal, or come into some extra cash. I also own a Wii, but it is collecting dust.

In terms of handhelds, I have a DS which I plug a lot of hours into on the train or waiting for tardy students. I am about to get a hand-me-down PSP from one of the previously mentioned tardy students.

I own an Xbox 360. It has exclusives that appeal to me(Halo, Gears of War, etc.) The multiplatform games on the 360 tend to not be ports. The online service offers more, even if you have to pay for it, microsoft point system is still a little ridiculous. I've thought about getting a PS3 because some of the exclusives look like a lot of fun, but more of my friends have an Xbox.

After seeing many comments about controllers, I'll add my own thoughts.\

Before I had a ps3, I was a PC gamer, which I admit has the most benefits of any system. Problem was, my pc was old, and upgrades were quite expensive. And thus I began my long journey into the realm of the consoles. Originally I was going to get an xbox, but my friend convinced me otherwise by informing me that I'd have to pay 5 bucks a month. Anyway, having used a mouse and keyboard most of my gaming life, I was afraid of analog sticks, fearing imprecision. When I got my ps3, much to my surprise, the controller was easy to use and adapt to. It was light (which is a good thing because weight can detract from immersion by reminding me that I had to use my muscles) and more importantly, it was symmetrical. It made sense, and my thumbs were both at the same altitude. It felt less like a controller and more like handles. With the Xbox controller, the left stick is way up at the top...and I'm mostly like "what the fuck for?" Supposedly it helps with FPS's but those are about aiming--the left stick is for movement. My biggest gripe with the 360's controller is the size and shape...i guess it just isn't for me. I've also found that an xbox controller is harder to keep clean, and it acquires dirt and filth quite quickly.

I will admit that the ps3's bottom shoulder buttons can suck (with a cheap hardware addon this can be fixed), and the d-pad is often imprecise. I do like the face buttons better, though.

I like that having built my computer, I'm capable of tinkering with it and fixing it myself. If I encounter a problem, I can look up solutions and fix those issues on my own. I'm also capable of doing much, much more with my computer than I could with any other gaming machine.

Also helps that I'm a big fan of some genre more or less exclusive to the PC. I'm sorry, but consoles don't have a single strategy game worth a damn as far as I've seen and that's my genre of choice. Not just RTS, but 4x, grand strategy, management sims, and everything from Hearts of Iron to Black & White or Dwarf Fortress... speaking of which I'm also a big fan of small heartfelt projects like Dwarf Fortress as well as mods and indie projects. I love browsing sites like ModDb for what's new while also visiting more specialized sites like Nwnvault to see if any new campaigns have been released or updated.

Just don't get that with consoles, thus why I'm primarily a 'PC gamer' these days. Though truth be told if I had the money for it I'd happily buy every platform available. Always felt that getting so attached to one console is silly when really, shouldn't it all be about the games themselves rather than what you're playing them on?

My PS3.

It has more exclusives that i want to play.

I have no issues with the controller, can play for hours with it no problem.

It has a blu ray player.

It's pretty awesome.

I have a PC and PS3. I prefer the PC because it's got far better graphics than most Console games (Modern Warfare 2 is about the only console game I can think of that even uses 1080p). Much more customization with mods and the fact that the whole thing isn't locked down by the manufacturer (who is me since I assembled it myself). Most "Xbox Exclusives" are also ported to PC if I really want them. There are tons of free and cheap indie game that are only available on PC. It's just the most convenient and versatile system.

I use the PS3 for exclusives, console games that I don't want to play crappy PC ports of and, NetFlix, and BluRays.

I think I'm the only person in this thread to support the Wii...

I can only justify it so much. It's got it's big 1st party titles, No More Heroes, Smash brothers Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy. It's even got CoDBlops (not that I own it) and Modern Warfare (not this either). The only genres I really care about though are adventure games and JRPGs. (which is why I regret not having bought a PS2, shadow of the colassas and GoW1, not to mention the JRPGs...) We've been getting the short stick of everything, not too surprising.

The best games I have for the Wii barely use the motion controls at all, but then again, I'm one of those wierdos who thought Other M was fairly decent.

I like how the consoles are finally starting to seperate themselves from each other. These days, the games are becoming different between the two and the controls feel very different. Both the PS3 and the 360 have their pluses and minuses, which means owning both is the way to go.

Unfortunately I cannot afford both, nor do I have the space for both consoles and game libraries. I own a 360. Why?
1. I was going to buy a PS2 back in the day, but my brother wanted an Xbox. We were going 50/50 and so we rock/paper/scissor-ed. He won, and thus I got into games such as Halo, KOTOR, Morrowind, Rainbow 6 etc.
2. Due to the above, I quickly became accustomed to the (smaller) Xbox controller, which felt natural and immersive. The Playstation controller worked for it's library at the time, so I didnt have any problem with either, but these days the PS3 controller just feels... strange. When 360 released with their streamlined controller, I instantly fit into it, like a great pair of shoes or a well loved pair of gloves.
3. The Xbox360 came out before the PS3. With it's head start it quickly established itself as a cheaper console with more exclusives (today of course, the PS3 has well caught up, which at times has made me ALMOST buy one). This is where I moved from my Xbox to the 360 and picked up Gears of War and xbox live. I became an online console gamer.
4. However, I am rarely a social online gamer unless playing with friends I know personally. So I usually instantly mute others and don't even bother with a headset-mic. The scum and villainy of XBL is nowhere near my ears.
5. Comfort zone. Why change now when I have established a library of amazing games, am comfortable with the controller and know how to work the networking, streaming and multimedia of my 360? This is much like trying to give PC users a Mac. They just refuse to use it, because they are comfortable with what they know, despite what the other may offer.

Never fight a console war. I wish I had a PS3 too. But why complain? Why defend the flaws in my own machine? We are all very well off since we can spend our income on entertainment and leisure when there are real working people who struggle each day with rent, tax, food, fuel and family costs.

Ps3 for me. I do so hate the xbox... But for no flamewar reason what so ever... Allow me to explain. When I was a wee lad I broke my arm at school, I had the repair operaation done and found out that i hed to keep my arm in a full arm plaster cast for 6 months (I fractured it in 8 places in a 5 inch spread) my family got me an N64 since I couldnt do a whole lot outside. Let me tell ya learning to play Goldeneye on an N64 controller with a plaster cast is a *****! Well after I got the cast off my N64 broke and I got upgraded to a ps2... Wonderful feeling controller. So I Played that exclusivly til I started working at a summer camp and was exposed to my first xbox. (I wanted one so bad at the time.) Then one afternoon I come walking bcak to the staff area to find the cabin on fire... I scream bloody murder and run inside... My ps2 and a bunch of my other stuff was inside... I grab my stuff, start to rush outside, and trip... on the xbox. smached my face off the concrete floor and was knocked out... I woke up later with 2nd degree burns on my legs... So now I do not like xboxs... At all.

(everybody calling console wars "flame wars" intertains the hell out of me tho...)

I'm fortunate enough to have multiple systems.

PC: Tends to have the best version of any given release up until my system specs fall behind. Mouse and keyboard heavily improve many types of games. Due to things like Steam, games on this platform are far less costly than console.

Wii: Lots of great unique game franchises tied to Nintendo and tons of gaming variety compared to all other platforms. Motion controls truly enhance some experiences in my opinion. I prefer FPS on Wii over any other system including PC.

PS3: I own this too...and while it gets a ton of use due to Rock Band...the PC is really superior except for the select few exclusives that I own for it.

I prefer the xbox360 because of the controller (and i owned a PS2 instead of an xbox, so it was an unusual leap), the exclusive games (mostly gears of war) and the fact that at time of purchase the 360 was less than half the cost of the ps3.

PC, for these reasons:
- The general superiority of its technological power and ability as a platform.
- The fact that it's not tied down to hardware cycles.
- The way that the ultimate power to enjoy the game as one sees fit is invested in the playerbase through the use of tweaks, mods and hacks, rather than publishers and Microsoft/Sony.
- The higher visual fidelity that playing on a monitor provides.
- The cheaper games.
- The fact that it's entirely backwards compatible.
- The unmatched precision of the mouse as a means of control, and the number of keys that a keyboard provides.

I own a ps3, mostly because I grew up with Sony. The first console my dad bought me was a ps1.

My PC. This is the fourth one I've built for myself and I couldn't be happier with the platform. Steam is truly a beautiful thing and with a possible move to a set top box coming, the consoles better watch themselves. That said, I still own a PS2 that my nephews play on and a Wii no one uses. And my best memories are still playing games as a teenager on the SNES and Genesis so I guess I'll always be a console kid at heart.

Edit: Oops, I forgot to say why. Just like above, freedom. Gotta love it. That and I am completely lost without a mouse anymore, one reason why a Steam set top box might fail. Not sure I could adjust to a controller again, but hey, if I can play the same games on the PC and the TV I might just learn.
