I like how the consoles are finally starting to seperate themselves from each other. These days, the games are becoming different between the two and the controls feel very different. Both the PS3 and the 360 have their pluses and minuses, which means owning both is the way to go.
Unfortunately I cannot afford both, nor do I have the space for both consoles and game libraries. I own a 360. Why?
1. I was going to buy a PS2 back in the day, but my brother wanted an Xbox. We were going 50/50 and so we rock/paper/scissor-ed. He won, and thus I got into games such as Halo, KOTOR, Morrowind, Rainbow 6 etc.
2. Due to the above, I quickly became accustomed to the (smaller) Xbox controller, which felt natural and immersive. The Playstation controller worked for it's library at the time, so I didnt have any problem with either, but these days the PS3 controller just feels... strange. When 360 released with their streamlined controller, I instantly fit into it, like a great pair of shoes or a well loved pair of gloves.
3. The Xbox360 came out before the PS3. With it's head start it quickly established itself as a cheaper console with more exclusives (today of course, the PS3 has well caught up, which at times has made me ALMOST buy one). This is where I moved from my Xbox to the 360 and picked up Gears of War and xbox live. I became an online console gamer.
4. However, I am rarely a social online gamer unless playing with friends I know personally. So I usually instantly mute others and don't even bother with a headset-mic. The scum and villainy of XBL is nowhere near my ears.
5. Comfort zone. Why change now when I have established a library of amazing games, am comfortable with the controller and know how to work the networking, streaming and multimedia of my 360? This is much like trying to give PC users a Mac. They just refuse to use it, because they are comfortable with what they know, despite what the other may offer.
Never fight a console war. I wish I had a PS3 too. But why complain? Why defend the flaws in my own machine? We are all very well off since we can spend our income on entertainment and leisure when there are real working people who struggle each day with rent, tax, food, fuel and family costs.
