I picked up an Xbox One for the exclusives and console-only releases, and I am having a little fun with it. Halo MCC is certainly cool, though it did have it's fair share of teething problems at launch, and the populations are a little low, now.

Destiny was enjoyable, if a little basic. The PvP content is all I really play the game for.

Sunset Overdrive was also a lot of fun, if a little repetative. It was nice to see a game full of colour and not take itself too seriously, especially for a AAA release.

As for upcoming games, I am looking forward to the new Crackdown title, and Tomb Raider (depending on whether or not that stays as an Xbox exclusive, if not, I will get it for my PC), and any Gears title. Hopefully, E3 has some decent announcements for the Xbox One, because I don't play it as much as I would like.

I can't say that I am particularly thrilled with my xbox one purchase. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it was a complete waste, but I definitely think I jumped on it too early.

I originally snagged one back around when destiny came out with one free game coming with the system (diablo 3 RoS for me). I guess I was really banking on the master chief collection to really knock my socks off. It came close, but the fact that the game was broken for as long as it was (and still might be I haven't touched it since december).

The other xbox exclusives haven't nabbed me yet (though I will be intrigued by sunset overdrive when they come out with a goty thats cheap). Right now, the system is primarily my whatever is microsoft giving away for free box. And though I've played some nifty games that I wouldn't have otherwise played I can't say it was worth price of entry.

PS4
Storage - only 500GB when mandatory installs tend to range from 10 to 50GB per game
Gulp. That's my complaint about XB1. I haven't checked what is left available on my PS4. I already have a dozen games and downloads. I better check ASAP.
It is possible to upgrade the hard drive in your PS4, if space becomes an issue. According to the Sony Support page [https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5107/~/upgrade-ps4-hdd], the PS4 supports any SATA 2.5 inch hard drive of more than 160Gb in size. It's not really a point in Sony's favour (as it's an additional cost to the user), but at least the option is there, right?

OT: I haven't picked up an 8th gen console yet, as there aren't really enough games that would interest me enough to make getting a console a viable purchase. However, with Disgaea 5 coming out next quarter and Persona 5 hopefully coming sometime within the next 3 years (Damnit Atlus, why do you hate PAL regions!?), I might have a reason to get a PS4 by the end of the year... Might.

I'm still a year or so away from seriously considering buying one, although my first "urges" have just kicked in to get one with the release of The Witcher 3.

More quality games and an Enhanced edition of TW3 should see me grab one sometime in 2016 I reckon. Currently there's very little point though.

Not nearly as bad and you get some exercise while doing it and the games aren't a pain to get running like trying to emulate old windows OSes and trying to find the exact kinks as to why the games don't work. You also don't have to be tech savvy.
You don't have to be tech savvy to do any of this, a lot of times its a simple as a download. Emulating an older OS isn't difficult, either- the only thing on that list I gave that requires some technical knowledge is installing another OS on your computer, which is almost never required. It takes about as much time to get an old game to work as it does to fumble around a TV to plug everything in the right RCA ports, and if you want exercise, you can jog in place while you're downloading a fixed installer.

There is more ways to spend money on a console then I ever imagined possible... 7$ for a 4 hour rental of House of the Dead 4 from 2005 and no option to buy House of the Dead 4. (I just want to own the House of the Dead series on one console, I have for over a decade).

I think I'll get more out of upgrading my RAM and video card on my 3 year old PC, which will take way less money, and has more then a couple of games worth playing.

Bloodborne is a good game, I rank it just under DS1. It's not worth 450$.

For great gaming, the best video card you can get will have the most effect. I went from 6 to 12 Gig of DDR3 and don't really notice much. I went from a GTS250 to a HD 7970: big difference.

When it's time, I'll likely go for this: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+970&id=2954

Overall single best thing I've done is get an SSD for my operating system. Night and day.

The single best thing on Gen 8 for me so far has been all 4 halo games give a hi-def polish for XB1. I played levels of all 4 games last night. While I've enjoyed Far Cry 4 a lot on PS4 and Mario Kart on Wii U, this was easily the single best thing I've experienced so far.

I'm still undecided.

Console gens should've died off years ago, and right now both the XB1 and PS4 look like embarrassments compared to the PC. Yet I honestly can't be bothered with the hassle of PC gaming, so I'll no doubt end up with an XB1 or, maybe, a PS4.

Witcher 3, Arkham Knight, the new Tomb Raider, a version of DA:Inquisition that isn't a catastrophic mess, and maybe Halo 5 are reasons enough to 'need' a new machine, so I'll cave eventually.

Why not just get it for the PC?
I just don't enjoy games on PC with anything other than traditional point and click mechanics. I've always prefered the less faff and setup of consoles.

I haven't gotten one yet. I'm thinking about a PS4 for Bloodborne and Persona 5, but I want to see some Persona 5 reviews before I make that investment.

It's arguable that consoles as we knew them are dead, and they started bleeding out when Sony first used slow, but high capacity, Blu rays in the PS3 (and MS using a DVD drive that may have originally been designed as a jet engine, for how loud it got, prompting them to add on an install feature of their own). Not counting the Wii U and portable/mobile, everything machine meant to run today's games is using x86 PC hardware, and that's not even the big issue.

What really sucks is mandatory installs (thanks to games getting so large GB-wise that the optical drives can't keep up), the limited space available for them, and the restrictions on expanding that space, especially with the xbone and it's HDD being behind a warranty void sticker. It's the PC's negative of not being able to just drop a disc in the machine and start playing, without the positive of being able to put an extra drive in (screw externals for games on any machine) (or a cheaper 3.5 inch drive in the PS4). Even if you do go with a work around for HDD space, doing the work around, the installs, and constant updates still undermine the whole concept of a game console, a self-sufficient, plug and play computer for playing video games.

I'll probably cave in to get a Sony or MS exclusive someday too, but, thanks the lackluster start and to almost every 3rd party making sure to get the largest audience possible (PS4, XBOX, and PC), it'll likely be when the eventual PS4 and Xbone redesigns have already been out for at least several months.

I agree with the $450 argument. But not so sure with the DS1. Personally I find the Lovecraftian theme more alluring than the dark fantasy.

Gen 8 made me switch back to PC.

I'm not sure I'll get a WiiU but currently I'm more interested in a WiiU (in part for the late Wii games like Galaxy 2 and Skyward Sword that I missed before my Wii's disk drive failed) than a PS4 simply because there's exclusives on WiiU I'll never get to play anywhere else.
I'm very happy with my 3DS and resisting the urge to get a New3DS, barely.

Well, that slightly glossy pile of dust in the corner is what's known as my WiiU. I think it still has the Mario Kart 8 disc in it from when I bought it...

My PS4 gets a little love now and then. Currently it's unplugged to save power while we use the A/C.
Why did you buy them, out of interest? The promise of future games?
My owning so many systems is the product of a couple factors, mostly being that my friends are so diverse in what systems they play on. Most of my friends play PC, but a good few of them that I like playing with the most play on consoles, so if I don't own at least one console I risk alienating a bunch of my friends that I like playing games with. I've tried convincing them to play on PC, but other than money reasons they usually state that they find the prospect of PC too intimidating. Don't ask me what they mean, even they couldn't explain it to me.

Another factor was that I consider myself an enthusiast and just simply like owning things related to video games. I'm still stuck on the notion that each console is it's own experience (PSX vs. N64, PS2 vs Xbox vs Gamecube) I guess. The WiiU arguably shows the most diversity, but still lacks anything that uses it beyond a clunky gimmick.

I have an Xbox One but to be honest I don't use it that often. It's not that I don't like the console but rather pretty much every game I would want for it is also on my PC, and usually at a cheaper price.

Also given that most PC games also offer the option for keyboard and mouse or controller, then I default to the platform that gives me more options.

The consoles of this generation have so far failed to produce the killer exclusive that makes me think "yeah I made the right choice here."
