"Hey, a Religion & Politics Forum! That sounds interesting!"

-insert 4 months of protective hibernation-

"Maybe the off-topic is better?"

And it was.

"Maybe people would stop saying such dumb things about women if there were more active on here"

Hahahahahaha.
Ah, I was so naive, those were the days.

Honestly? "This is some of the most absolute bullshittiest crap I've seen yet!" And I made a new word that day.

"Please don't be like every other gaming website forum, for the love of God, I can only take so much stupid."

It was.

First post was in a thread about what movies did you leave during.

Doom, I left 45 mins in. Then I realized I missed the FPS scene. So, later that year I rented it, watched the end, and returned it.
EDIT: I did have to remove some spelling mistakes though. Seriously, I can't stand making spelling mistakes.

:p Yeah, and here I was gonna say "That Zero Punctuation video that PKB showed me was pretty damn good, I'd like to see more of them."

But since that doesn't count, fair enough. My first thought BEYOND watching ZP was....well, I can't remember. I'd have to remember what the first official article that I read here was, because I do remember that the first thing I felt compelled to respond to was an article, not a thread. Think it had something to do with Skyrim, as that was right around when I joined up.

At least I think it was an article and not a thread...

Hmmm, perhaps I shouldn't have bothered posting this. :3

"The Basement? Wonder what's in there...Brokencyde on replay? That doesn't sound so bad... *strolls on over to YouTube*" :D

Hm... probably "Wow, I never knew so many people had such vitriolic hatred for Gamestop." since the post that actually got me to join was one railing on Gamestop because of an issue the OP had made when calculating the total cost of something and then not keeping their receipts after pre-ordering something.

Wow this thread has a ton of awesome creepypastas and other scary things in it (gigantic scary thread). Oh look, they have a lot of video game stuff and the community doesn't seem to be completely stupid. Oh look, they worship Valve as if their games come with a disease free prostitute. Oh well, I guess I can get past that. Then came the march of the entitled jerks. Which made me stop visiting the forums for a couple months. That seems to have died down though.

Overall, pretty good experience here. Definitely one of the better internet communities.

Well, I do have to thank you because I went through the pages of my posts to get to my first one and it was a nice little trip down memory lane to threads I had completely forgotten about.
It was in a thread about what game has the best customization

In my opinion, you can't get better customization than Mass Effect. I'm just waiting for 3, hoping they never put a multiplayer in and that the movie that might(?) come out has nothing to do with Commander Shepherd.
Well, one for two...

Sorry, I just can't really remember what I thought the fist time I came here, I had been lurking for a couple months before I even made an account and I can't remember last Saturday, let alone what I was thinking some unknown date 2 years ago.

I was perplexed by the odd mix of intellectualism, acceptance, extensive discussion, passive-aggressive insults, elitism, and politeness. Of course, I rather like the way the mixture turns out though, or I wouldn't bother posting :)

My first thought was, "Wow, a site with no trolling and tightly enforced rules!"
Then I thought, "Wow... a site with the no trolling and tightly enforced rules..."

I was delighted at the fact that most posters here have and demonstrate excellent English skills. Also, a lot more threads that promote discussion rather than idle chatter. Love The Escapist.

I wonder if everyone here is here because of Yahtzee too...
Oh yeah, I only knew this place existed because the ZP videos on Youtube started mentioning this site, the name sounded intriguing and described my relationship with games, so I checked it out. I was then lurker for at least a year, and I never made an account on any other site before.

I found out about Yahtzee from a Kotaku post, and I thought the people there were considerate and surprisingly intelligent. Eventually, and I have to be completely honest, it turned into this pedantic, robotic, passive-aggressive insult hurling competition and I couldn't stand it anymore. 1UP, Gamespot, blah blah wasn't cutting it at all so I was glad that there was a place like this.

I loved how the moderators kept the crazy people out, that insulting others wasn't okay, and even in the worst of times the level of conversation was superior to so many other places on the Internet. The community here compelled me by speaking to each other to make an account and participate in conversation, which is saying a whole hell of a lot. I now visit every single day, sometimes more than once, and it's probably my favorite site on the internet. /honest asskissing
