I constantly see people saying that the US is garbage, that everyone here is an idiot, that all of our leaders are idiots... People that say we're all backwards and such... Yet thousands upon thousands of people come here every year legally and illegally just to get away from countries like Mexico, South America, and who knows how many other places... The US really isn't that bad. Sure there are places where we could improve but frankly we do a damn good job for the most part. Not all politicians are idiots, there are good ones but the media has a tendency to only focus on the negative.

Not all of us are like Paris Hilton. We aren't all elitist snobs with a ton of money, we aren't all horrendously poor and living in poverty. Not all of us are red necks that sleep with guns under our pillows... Usually it's just what the media portrays that makes us look bad. Frankly I've heard about bad things from other countries as well and I'm going to pick on the Brits for a second to make an example. 1) All Brits have bad teeth. 2) British humor is dry and utterly boring. 3) The British don't have sex like normal people and lack passion.

Though it's true British humor is sometimes dry there are still exceptions. Tons of them. I saw a Monty Python skit that was very similar to most "American" humor. Frankly the US isn't a horrible place to live and is pretty damn good in comparison to some places. It's very irksome hearing about how terrible it is from people that have never even stepped foot in the country. A person needs to live here for some years before forming an opinion.

+1 for Canada.
I will give you that you may free health care. Also, Canadians do make some kick ass beer. Aside from that though, we do have a great number of things here that aren't so bad. We make some good music, we have some great places of learning, and if you ever need some nuts, visit California!

Americans: The only idiots who would willingly try to rebuild and reinhabit New Orleans

Pretty much sums it up.
fix'd
So your saying you wouldn't try to repair a major port and cultural center?
Not when it will inevitably be destroyed again, it's like repeatedly building a sandcastle that you have watched wash away, how long will you keep repairing it until you decide to move it further up the beach?
Its not inevitable so long as people keep their damn levies fixed.

Ehh, it's alright. I haven't found anything to hate about it really, can't say I've found anything I love about it also.

You know, I watched the coverage as Katrina hit, and felt saddened for everyone who died and suffered. But a thought hit me soon after. Why would you build a city that needs levies and is below sea level...especially near a huge body of water?

I'm saying its a stupid idea to try to repair a major port and cultural center that will inevitably be destroyed and cause major problems for the government and people who live there again...
And what makes its future destruction inevitable? Also, what would happen if no one ever rebuilt anything destroyed by a disaster(natural or otherwise)? Do I need to list all the major cities that wouldn't exist today if people acted that way?

You could perhaps move to a more densely populated area of America and/or attempt to befriend more intellectual people.

I like America and I would consider myself a patriot. I know some people go a little overboard with their patriotism, but that happens everywhere. It's just more noticeable here because people have things like a Navy that's theoretically capable of defeating the combined Naval forces of every other country on Earth and the world's most valuable economy to brag about. Also we have an unfortunate cultural undercurrent of isolationism, the principal reason we are one of three countries still using the English Imperial system of measurements and why the world's most popular sport is football but in America they carry the 'ball' and wear armor while playing it.

I'm Australian and I really want to visit America one day, especially Washington DC.

As a country I feel kinda sorry for you guys, your seen as the world's police because your the only people with the military power to do it. Yet, people spend half their lives saying your wrong for doing it and the other half telling you to keep doing it.

All the while the lack of money in your domestic sphere is beginning to show, with the insurance and medical issues your having.

I appreciate the foreign policy difficulties you guys have and I think you're doing a good job at it. So yeah, you're doing fine by me. I really want to see the White House in person ( though it's impossible to get inside, just to look at it from Pennsylvania Avenue would be enough.)
Wow. Thank you. I don't know what else to say, but i am blown away by that. You said it perfectly.

My opinion on America. We had the right ideas set in line then muddled it up as we got more self conscious of our actions and feared stepping on a few toes so we just tried to avoid the party. If we were less worried about doing the wrong thing, and more set on doing what we believed was the right thing we would not have some of the problems we have today.

Yay, vague answers.

I'll take that last one literally.(+immature testicle joke). This is tue though, well if you ever need some...wood...or...water then Canada has your fill and more for the immagrants you'll probably bring with you.(yeah I'm making immigration jokes about my country...so what?)

Dude, most people live near a huge body of water. As for being below sea level, its not a big deal so long as you maintain your infrastructure properly. Just ask Denmark.

Very true. Most of our population does reside near a body of water. But still, you won't see me living anywhere near a coastline when a hurricane hits!

I actually live next to one of the most densely populated areas in the nation, and I have intelligent friends, I wasn't looking for a self-help speech though.

I live in Ottawa, Ontario (...Canada) and I've been to the States a few times. My impression is that it's not a terrible place, there's certainly worse, but you're all too god damn proud to fix the problems you have.

Saying something is wrong with America is the first step in fixing the problem and making it better.

People are dying! Do something about it! Fuck HMOs, you need REAL Healthcare, for everyone.

Don't believe what the GOP says, come and ACTUALLY ask a Canadian about universal health care. Seriously, I'm Canadian, ask me, get the people who tell you to ask a Canadian to ask me, I'll be happy to tell you, if you don't believe me I can refer you to friends so you can ask them.

Oh, and stop taking over our country. It'd be nice to drive down a street in Canada and see less than 90% of our businesses pouring money into the obscenely weathly American patricians.

Oh, and it may be a false impression, but as a whole, the US seems afraid of immigrants.

To be fair....i work at a wal-mart and am sitting at a 5 dollar desk. I know people are dying, but a HUGE problem here is people doing nothing to fix anything. To quote a country song... give me a little less talk and a lot more action!! I think Universal health care is good for certain countries...but we would fuck it up somehow. I would love to ask...but the secret ninja assassins would kill me quick....oh shit here they come!! *runs and hides*
