No, if I met someone equal to me, I wouldn't necisarily be nice to them.
Eh fair enough, it's really a matter of perspective. I see being equal treatment as the highest compliment one can give.
To me that sounds like superior treatment.

I find it quite worrying that so many people's idea of equality is to beat the hell out of a typically physically weaker opponent.

If we put the situation into an actual context, rather than some hypothetical brawl, I wonder how many people would say the same thing?

Using myself as an example, I'm a pretty big guy, and purely by virtue of my size I could seriously hurt the average woman who might attack me, does that mean that any woman who attacks me has made a serious mistake and is about to get very badly hurt?

No, of course not. I'll certainly defend myself, but I'm not going to go out of my way to badly hurt someone significantly weaker than I am out of some primitive desire for revenge.

Self-defense allows you to use reasonable force against an assailant and courts take a pretty dim view of a 200lb man beating the hell out of a woman half his size over a slap.

That's like taking a baby's lolly or stealing an old lady's purse.

If you have any balls at all, you don't behave like that.

I'd rather get hit myself than hit a woman.
Call me archaic but there are some basic rules of conduct I find unbreakable. And not hitting women is one of them.

Anyone that advocates beating the hell out of anyone for a slap needs to be shot. That said, if a woman attacks me, I'm going to defend myself, using any amount of force necessary to subdue her. I'm not saying haul off and break her wrist or somesuch, but if she means to do harm (and it's fairly obvious when that is), put her into a joint-lock, or pin, or if you can't manage that, slap her upside the head. It's not about revenge, simply self-defense.

Attacking someone, provoked or not, on the other hand, is completely unacceptable. Regardless of circumstance.

Dudes have more muscle mass by nature, so it's hard to make a fight fare... But if they find strong girls, I don't think guys should shy away from fighting them. We're also strong, though not as much because of our naturally skinny bodies, ugh...
They shouldn't start a fight with a stronger person, then.

Not hitting women because they're women is incredibly sexist. I'm not, so if the situation asks for it, ofcourse I'll hit a girl. If someone kicks me in the balls or throws a rock against my head, I'll defend myself. Why would sex matter then?

That's quite a troubling response. I wonder if that applies to all people. If a two-year old hits you in the groin, are you going to beat them stupid?

I would punch a woman.

I mean the female gender make up a shit load of people, some could take it and kick my skinny ass.

Now a lady on the other hand, would probably deserve a less violent response.

Yea, sounds pretty archaic to me.

Ok, if being equal to you is the biggest compliment you could give someone, either you think way too highly of yourself or you're treating them as superior

Now I'm confused..
Ok, you said calling someone an equal is the greatest compliment you could give someone, but if you think that you either really think they're better than you or you think way too highly of yourself.

Actually, no, because I didn't see it before just now.

Well, of course, if you're in mortal danger (or at least danger of serious injury), it's a totally different story. A knife is dangerous no matter who wields it. You're justified in that case.
Although I doubt I'd hit a woman even in that situation, I'd probably dodge, trip her up and make a run for it or something.
But that's not because of my principles but because I try to avoid armed fights whenever possible.

Anyway, I was mainly responding to the OP which was in no way anything like you described. If I was hit/kicked in the shin by a woman, would I retaliate? Not physically, never.
I'd probably call her a stupid fuck or something.

Also note that you posted your bloody tale after my initial posts.

Violence does not know gender.

If a person hits someone, they must expect retaliation.

Men can be just as weak as the average woman, and women can be just as strong as the average man. If a weak man hits you, you would retaliate, but if an average woman (as strong as the weak man) attacks you, retaliation would be wrong? This is nonsensical. What makes one different from the other? No one can say one is weaker than the other here, because they're both of equal combat ability. The only possible explanation is blatant sexism.

If the two year old had the mind and maturity of a 20 year old, yes.

For me it depends if shes trying to hurt you, and if she is then try to do minimal damage as possible.

Not at all. I see treating everyone exactly the same as one of the highest possible moral values. Maybe I'm just crazy, but I hold equality and freedom as the greatest values it is possible to attain.

I treat everyone exactly the same, only changing it based on their own choices that I have first-hand experience with, and I expect/want the same from everyone else. The highest compliment you can give me is to treat me exactly the same as you treat the next guy over.

Hmm, yea I'm probably just crazy.

I'd respond as I normally do when someone tries to pick a fight. Verbally try and calm them down, then use holds or light throws to subdue as opposed to blows.

I'm don't give a damn if you're a woman, if you hit me I'll hit you back, and probably harder too.
