Has actually already been done, played it. Twas pretty good, but obviously quite a lot had to be changed to make it work (puzzels and platforming kinda went).

I would start digging downwards, knowing that somewhere underneath me is a seemingly endless void full of random construction equipment and Cave Johnson recordings.
Then I'd grab the nearest handheld portal device and make my way back up. Let the science begin!
