I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh back in high school. It was fun until the people I played with graduated, then I had no one else to play against before school started :(.

About a year ago, I tried creating a Yu-Gi-Oh game that would take care of the game logic and all the individual cards for you. I had a working demo with the Legend of Blue-Eye's booster pack, but no one seemed interested in it, so I dropped the project.

It's fun and a nice hobby. I WOULD like to get back into playing it but there's this whole problem of it costing money and if you don't get the most up to date boosters you can't play the best and all that. I used to play with my friends and we were all sort of mediocre. We got the rules, we pulled strategies out of our arses but we didn't spend years perfecting techniques. It was a hobby, something to do in lunch hours at secondary school and college.

What killed it for me was when I met the elitists. YA KNOW those who only live for the game. Me and my friends were playing amongst ourselves in a comic shop and these guys came over and were like, "d'ya wanna game?" We all got beat in roughly 5 turns or below. I don't know why, I don't know how, but it wasn't that what got me. Me and my friends were actually ENJOYING the game, laughing and going "oh snap, you did not just use that trap!" but then these guys showed up and when they played it's like they wanted to just drop dead. So after seeing that I left it.

I've liked every card game running I think besides Magic. I stopped buying them though and sort of just went with what I got. I remember Pokemon, my cousin kept getting his friends cards and then he got bored so gave me all that he collected. I remember Duel Masters, a friend lent me a deck and I never stopped using it. With YuGiOh I actually went out of my way and started buying it, but even so it was a few boosters and 2 theme decks, nothing major. If I was a rich man I'd buy them all out, but unfortunately I'm not. Besides, the next time/money sink hobby I'm interested in is Warhammer...YEAH I WENT THERE!!!

I got back into it for a few weeks every summer when I was in high school when I went to a state choir for 18 days, as it was a good way to pass time, but by that point I didn't really care that much about the ability of my deck. It was just for fun at that point, and nobody really had any newer cards.

Here's a good indicator of when I quit. My deck revolved around Jinzo. I have no idea what the hell a Gemini deck is.

Geez that's quite awhile. xD Gemini's are Effect monsters that have no effects. xD
Okay... What purpose does that serve? And can Jinzo still be played respectively? Or is he just a joke now?

I still have all of my cards (a ton) and one deck built. I don't really play anymore after switching over to MTG but I keep all of my stuff in case I want to get back into it. I play a modified Blaze of Destruction deck that basically removes all the strong monsters and makes it more burn oriented.

Started when I joined public school in 8th grade when the other "duelists" welcomed me into there group.

We played at lunch on the floor next to the trash cans. Jocks would flip us all shit and throw food at us. Had to lie about the value of the cards because they were being confiscated for being to worth more than $10 or something.

First Booster pack I opened (Magic Ruler) yielded a Relinquished XD

Still have all my cards and two complete decks : Exodia Deck and a another just full of some of my favorite cards topped with Magician o' Chaos
Lost a lot of interest when they started banning cards even though I didn't play in any big tournaments.

At age 22 and married, I still play occasionally with one of my old friends.

It would take a very laid back atmosphere for me to play in tourneys again...

And I'm calling zombie bullshit on the "no staples" statement. There's just so many staples for certain deck types that you have to use at least a few.
Depends what you mean exactly by 'Staple'. I sure use cards that are pretty necessary for Gemini's, but I don't use any splashable disruption cards (such as Mirror Farce or Bottomless Tarp Hoe). I don't like these sort of cards, they kind of spoil the game.
Well after seeing your deck list, I must say that I was wrong. But I don't think that's what ruined the game. The game needs heavy moderation on balancing. Something they don't do AT ALL. They seem to like making certain decks stronger and the traditional decks weaker. Some styles are completely unplayable just because they don't update them.

I'll take your word for it. Quite frankly, even if it has become as complex as Magic, I have no one to play with, so its a moot point. Thought I am intrigued by some of the stuff in this thread. Flaming Dinosaurs and Frog decks sound kind of awesome. Awesome like trying to build a Magic deck around a sheep-mage.
it is it is nothing like destroying you opponents entire field with a half angle half demon toad, 2 frogs that look like the are spazzing out, and 2 unicorn frogs. seriously that combo can get of EVERY card on the opponents field EVERY turn. also with the flaming dinosaur deck you can have a monster with 17100 attack points on the field (you start with 8000 life points) that is immune to traps and monster effects and 3 monsters with 15200 attack points and another one with 20700 attack.

I think i still have my old deck somewhere :S

I have an undead revival deck that would bring back cards sent to the graveyard and use them to summon powerful monsters.

Just bugging you. And Jinzo's a joke in competitive matches, he's easily outweighed by Royal Decree as tributes only work in decks like Frognarch(Frog and Monarch) that can keep up with Synchro Summons by abusing Swap Frog, Roanintoadin and Treeborn Frog as a way to speed up the deck and produce fadder.

Gemini decks are too risky. Cards like Book of Moon, Bottomless Trap Hole, and the countless destructive abilities of cards make summoning one twice neigh impossible. I first read their effects and went "WTF, How can you use this?"
Actually, Gemini's have made some strides in competitive play with the help of Neos Alius.

Allowing for Honest, Skyscraper and Skyscraper 2, Stratos and obviously the bevy of Neos Support, including Neos Wrath wich is an amazingly powerful spell.

Abusing effects to help cycle through your deck faster and providing fodder/useless pawns as defense or Synchro material.

Yeah. I heard one build got pretty far, sadly it was stopped from reaching the top by Legendary Six Samurai.

If you know what Monarchs are, then Fronarch is basicaly a deck that can drop one every turn, since Treeborn Frog will revive itself from the Graveyard if its owner has no Spell/Trap on the field.

Last tournament I checked Gravekeepers had 4 of the 5 top spots with X-Sabers behind them. I heard the Legendary Six Samurai have taken over.

Excels? Is that the TCG name? I'm pretty sure they're called "Exceeds"
