Sorry, I had to finish up finals. But summer has finally started, and so I'm good to go for a while. Try PM'ing the guys who haven't shown up for a while.

Damien yawned. "Definitive response, eh? Bit specific but yeah, whatever. I'm in." Damien then heard the others speak. "Jack, if you take after your mother in the slightest, I wouldn't be suprised if she pushed ya into this job. And if she doesn't, who cares? You found a half-time job like every other 16 year old in the world. I don't think it'll draw too much attention." He noticed Sonny trying to somehow become smaller, as if to disappear from all this. "C''mon Sonny, there's nuthin' to be afraid of. Besides, while the others might not realize it, you're useful and we kinda need ya. Ya saves my ass when you blinded that overgrown cow-demon, and I reckon settin' things alight is gonna be pretty useful later on." Damien whispered as he nudged Sonny with his elbow to catch Sonny's attention. He then heard Jason and Koenma. The ensuing conversation caused his left eye to twitch slightly. "Jason, if you do the CaramelDansen at any point in time, I don't care how many shields you construct, I am going to make you into scorched ash in my blast radius." Damien looked at Koenma. "So, who exactly is this spirit trainer, anyways?"

Lina took the Spirit Egg and examined it, as if that would reveal what lay inside. Finally, she put it in her pocket, saying, "Okay, so now what? Do we just go back and wait for instructions?"

Offhandedly, she wondered how much time had passed between the Spirit World an the Human World, and if anything had happened while they were away...

"I... I don't..." Sonny turned away from Damien. "I'm just not sure if... well, it seems awfully dangerous, and call me selfish, or a coward, but I'm not really interested in putting my life at risk fighting against more of these monsters!"

Sonny looked at Damien again. "Thank you. For saying I'm useful, I mean. But... I'm sure you'd all be able to manage this just fine without me. Honestly, I'd like to just put this whole ordeal behind me and forget about the demons, and the Spirit World, and my powers, and everything else."

Alex was deep in thought as the others spoke out. He was probably thinking harder then he ever had in his (ah-hem) life. Koenma said that a spirit detective would defend the world from demons, and some would mean to harm them; probably like the horned brothers from yesterday. There would definitely be more fighting, and more damage done; and Alex still didn't have any power like the others. If he joined he would be throwing himself into danger without actually being able to help much at all.

And how would that help? What if he got hurt, or really died? Who would take care of his mother and sister? Not his father, that's for sure. Alex wondered if he would even shed a tear at all. But was such a risk really worth it with so much to lose? So much life yet to live?

Then again, Alex thought, what life would be left? If Alex really turned this down, what would he go back to? School? Where he couldn't do anything useful that others could do 10 times better. A job? probably some unimportant grind that would never amount to anything important. Friends? Who would be oblivious to all this danger. Everything that had been suddenly seemed so empty.

Alex then began to think of the others floating near him. It seemed to him that most of them were jumping at the opportunity to get into this. Some of them seemed to not even be giving it much thought. Damien, Lina, Angelo, Jack; they had all already agreed. They were probably going to get into trouble again, probably hurt too. Alex started to wonder if he could really let that kind of thing happen again, he had just stood by last time; could he really do that again if given the chance? Well, Alex was relieved, at least Sonny wasn't going to join. Alex could tell he wasn't much of a fighter from the beginning and was glad the little guy wouldn't be in any more danger. The others though...

Then another thought suddenly came to Alex's mind from somewhere. The first glimpses he had gotten of demon's faces: Bleu's scared eyes and the bully's smirks. She had been so scared of them and they had just lapped it up. The pair had clearly had no concern for her or anyone else. No respect, no compassion, no concern, nothing. Alex couldn't stand for that kind of thing out of anyone, human or demon. If this job meant that he could so something, anything to stop more people like that, then that was the final straw.

"I'll do it." Alex said, first very quietly, almost a whisper. Then louder. "I'll do it." Then with his full speaking voice, flooded with determination. "I'll do it. I'll become a spirit detective. When does the first case start?"

Now that he had decide everything seemed very clear and simple. Alex couldn't wait to begin.

Damien chuckled. "Sonny, I was lyin' on my back wondering where the hell I was when the ox picked me up and tried to take my head off. You blinded t and gave me a moment t' recover and make sure I was standin' at the end o' the duel, 'n not him." He sighed and began to pace. "The way I see it, I don't have much of a choice. I don't know why, but those monsters seem to target me even in the middle o' a crowd. Maybe it's the whole spirit energy thing, but whatever. The point is, I reckon they're gonna get stronger 'n I'm gonna stay the same, and sooner or later I'ma gonna get my ass kicked. Plus, with an ability and temper like mine, I gotta control my power or risk blowin' someone's head off. I would much rather a demon instead than a human be on the receivin' end o' that. It's yer choice, 'n I ain't gonna force ya, but really, sooner or later everyone has gotta stop runnin' 'n fight. I would rather fight at my own choice then when I hit a dead end." Damien sighed. "Well, philosophical lessons from the Californian are over. It's yer choice whether ya want to or not- and ya better not let someone like me with an IQ o' 2 sway ya!" Damien laughed

Koenma turned to Damien and addressed his question about the identity of the trainer.

"Well, she's dead at the moment, but her name is Genkai. She was the most powerful psychic in the world back in her day. She also helped to train one of our best Spirit Detectives. So you can rest assured that your training will be more than sufficient to boost your powers." Koenma explained.

"Honestly, I'd like to just put this whole ordeal behind me and forget about the demons, and the Spirit World, and my powers, and everything else." Sonny explained to everyone.

"Well, I won't force you into this, the decision is completely your own. If you ever reconsider, just let Botan know, and she will fill you in on the case. Since you will not become a Spirit detective now, I will have to send you back to your body. Botan, would you please escort Sonny back to his body and put him back into the world of the living."

"Certainly Sir, Come along Sonny, We'll get you back to your body in no time at all." Botan smiled. She grabbed Sonny by his hand and led him out of the palace. Soon, after a short flight, Sonny was back in the Classroom. The students' bodies were all glowing bright gold. "Go on Sonny, simply lie down in your body and you will wake up feeling good as new!"

======================================

"As for the rest of you, I will now explain your first case." Koenma flipped a switch on his desk and the TV turned on. A single word was printed on it, Wormhole.

"Your First case as Spirit Detectives will be to find and stop the Demon Smuggling Organization Wormhole. They have been slipping demons through our barrier for some time now and I would like you all to find out where they hide and put an end to their smuggling operation. Rumor has it that some of their smuggled demons live in your town of Danmour, See if you can locate one of them and find out any information on the organization's whereabouts." Koenma flipped the switch and the monitor turned off.

"Is there anything you would like to ask about before I send you back to your bodies?"

=======================================

Bleu ran as fast as her human legs could carry her, She ran through the halls until she found a classroom to duck into. Serendipitously, This classroom was Jason and company's temporary resting place. The Devilmist had since dissipated into the ether and the door unlocked as Botan left the room.

"Jassson! Alexsss! Sssonny! Why are you all asssleep.....and why are you all glowing!?" Bleu knelt down and shook Sonny's Unconscious body. "Wake up! Pleassse! THey're Here for me again!!!"

Damien shrugged. "A dead instructor? Meh. Seein' as I happen to be talkin' t' you now, and am dead myself, I reckon that ain't as much o' a show stopper as it used to be, eh?" Damien shook his head before meditating on any questions he might possess. "Nothin' 'ere. Looks like our first case happens to be a goal o' ours anyway. Lucky!" Damien chuckled as Botan arrived back from escorting Sonny to the human world. Damien walked up and grabbed the oar once more. "Alright, let's go back. I'm startin' to miss being firmly rooted to the ground." Damien thought for a moment before turning back to Koenma. "Now that I think about it, is there any chance ya got something to amp our powers? This whole conversation seemed to be followin' the script for some Superman movie, so I thought I might ask." Damien shrugged. His train of logic made just as much sense as anything else in the past couple days.

"Yeah, we've... heard about this 'Wormhole' organization." Lina said, wondering if she should mention Bleu to Koenma, but decided not to. "I guess I have nothing else to say, though I am curious as to where this trainer of yours lives."

She noted Koenma mentioning the trainer - Genma - having trained one of their best Spirit Detectives. She decided to file away this information for a later date.

After lying down in his body, Sonny took a few minutes to readjust to being alive; when at last he was ready to open his eyes, the first thing he saw was Snake-Lady, leaning over him and hissing. He wasn't quite awake enough to make out the exact words, but was conscious enough to be wary of the snaky-tongued demon-woman, and at the sight of her he yelped and rolled over, cracking his head on the leg of a desk.

"You! I mean, uh, hello! Just out of interest, you aren't planning to eat me, are you?" Bleu hissed a response about someone being "here for her again", and Sonny realized he had more to worry about than a slightly-suspect Lamia. The demons were back.

Before he had time to prepare for an attack, a man in a suit stepped quite calmly through the door. Sonny relaxed slightly at the sight of this fairly normal-looking man, but judging from Bleu's reaction to him Sonny deduced that he must be the one after her.

"Hello there, dear," the man said to Sonny in a friendly tone. "Don't mind me; I'm just here for my daughter."

"Your daughter?" Sonny asked. He began mumbling absent-mindedly, not really to the new stranger, but more as a means of affirming things to himself. "That would've been vaguely believeable, were it not for the fact that Bleu has a snake-tail and you don't, drawing resemblances fairly short... I mean, I would have assumed that she was living on her own anyway, being a demon and all, but I'm not really an expert on demon customs or biology, so it's not completely ridiculous..."

The man in the suit took a daunting step forward, and Sonny backed away from the stranger, nudging into a desk with his back. ""Demons"? Don't be ridiculous, kid; I'm just an ordinary guy."

Sonny glanced around the room, looking for a means of defending himself should things turn nasty, and in doing so spotted the glaring contradiction in the stranger's testimony.

"Aha!" Sonny declared, pointing a finger at Gary. "Now, forgive me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't you think the first thing an "ordinary guy" would take note of upon entering a room would be the numerous human corpses scattered about the floor? You, sir, are no "ordinary guy"!"

"Well, ya got me," Gary shrugged, then brought his fist down at Sonny's head. Sonny dived to the side, and the desk he was standing in front of shattered into pieces. Sonny rolled back, grabbed two of the legs of the desk which had broken off and crossed them in front of himself in a defensive stance. Gary was between him and the door, so running wasn't an option - and besides that, Bleu was still here, and selfish coward or no, Sonny wasn't going to stand back and let her get taken whilst he was right there.

Botan watched as Gary attacked Sonny. "Oh my, This is not good, if anything happens to their bodies at this stage, who knows what will happen to their souls." Botan Mumbled before shooting off at full speed to Spirit world. A short time later and she burst back through Koenma's office doors. "Sir! We've got trouble in Human world! A demon is rampaging in the classroom, if we don't get them back to their bodies now, they won't have a body to go back to!"

"If that be the case then I agree, Ladies and gentlemen, I'm sorry but you need to go back now before its too late. I will send a DVD and some equipment with Botan tomorrow to explain everything else. Now hurry, before your bodies get damaged!" Koenma agreed with Botan.

"ALright everyone, form a line! Hurry, we don't have much time before you're bodies get damaged by that oaf!" Botan barked firmly at the group.

===============================================

"Huh, well whaddaya know, the little girl has some girly friends eh? One thing is botherin' me though." Gary grinned evilly as he picked up Damien's body by his skull. "Why is he glowin gold? I think that means he's still alive....Hand over the girl to me, and i promise to spare your friend's lives." He offered to Sonny, as he pointed his finger at Damien's throat. A long claw formed and poked at the skin of the throat. "So, what's it gonna be girly? The demon ***** over there? or your friends lives?"

Light Damien on fire.

That would be perfect. The demon would be shocked and possibly incapacitated, granting Sonny an oppurtunity to strike him and keeping him from having to make the most difficult decision of his life (which, incidentally, only just managed to trump an occasion from earlier that same day). The only downside with this plan was that it would involve lighting Damien on fire.

Sonny resolved to come up with something different.

He dropped his sticks, spread his arms in surrender, sat down on one of the undemolished chairs and looked very pointedly at Gary's chest.

Gary's tie caught fire.

Naturally, he was more inclined to react to this than to pay much attention to his hostage, and Sonny sprung forward, grabbed the chair he'd been sitting on with both hands and smacked Damien's body with it, knocking him out of Gary's hand.

Oh, whoops. Sorry, Damien. Ah, he'd be fine.

Clearly, this hadn't been the most rational course of action, as the demon was now in all likelihood going to kill him and the others and take Bleu, but at least Sonny wouldn't have simply rolled over and allowed it to happen. He had entered class this morning a boy - or something like it, at least - but on this morning, he became a man.

Damien rushed over and grabbed Botan's oar- only to slowly back up as he felt a pressure at his throat. It felt like he was being lifted up by his head by someone with very, very, very pointy claws. Then Damien felt what seemed to be a knife at his throat and he stopped moving. Damien didn't even want to swallow, in case the knife punctured his windpipe. Hell, it had already broken the skin. "Fuck, fuck, fuuuuuuck..." He whispered, trying to keep as still as possible. Suddenly, the knife at his throat disappeared only for Damien to rock back as what could only be described as what felt like a chair hit him in the solar plexus, causing him to drop and gasp for breath. On the bright side, all the other pains had left, so there was some silver lining in all this. Damien slowly rolled over onto his forearms and stood up, wheezing. He rested his hands heavily on his knees, catching his breath. Finally, he stood up, fury in his eyes. "Okay...whoever the fuck caused all this is going to become a goddamn chewtoy for the first stray I see in the streets." Damien grabbed Botan's oar and linked with the next person in line before all the new Spirit Detectives took off in a race for time to find their bodies.

Damien awoke to blackness. For a minute, he was afraid he had missed his body and wound back up in that hell of oblivion. He panicked until he felt a reasurring chair give way as he lashed out his leg, praying he was wrong. Damien then figured out why he couldn't see at all. It might have helped him a bit more if he wasn't looking at the black-carpeted floor. Damien rolled over and stood up quickly, only to wish he was looking back at the black floor. "You are just one ugly fucker, aren't you?" Damien said, fascinated by the greasy demon before him as an onlooker might be at watching a pack of wolves eat- it's disgusting, but something in the human psyche forces you to look. Then Damien realized the demon was on fire and saw the sharp, dirty claws the demon possessed. And Damien was pissed. "It was you, you ************!" Damien roared as he placed his hands together and formed his signature explosive sphere. Damien wound up and threw the ball across the classroom at the demon. He then looked around and saw Sonny panting, a chair leg in his hands. "Ah. So that's what hit me." Damien muttered to himself as he put two and two together. Still, Damien reasoned, Sonny must have had a good reason for it- the kid didn't seem like the type to consider suicide.

Alex was still a bit groggy as he 'woke up' as well. His joints felt a bit stiff as he pulled himself up to a kneeling position with a nearby chair. Clearly his body hadn't enjoyed being dead no mater how temporary it was. He blinked for a moment or two as his vision swam back into focus.

And what a sight he saw. Sonny, Damien, and Jack were once again charging into battle against a man. Alex suddenly had a strange thought as he looked again at the 'man' and wondered why he seemed to have a slight darkness emanating from his head. It was somewhat similar to what he had seen in the demon pair from yesterday; a little less similar to what Bleu seemed to have. Alex wondered if this guy was a demon too... well, actually that was pretty obvious.

Alex could also see the trio striking at him and that suddenly filled him with fear. They weren't working together at all; Damien had thrown one of his explosives while Jack and Sonny were both quite close. Alex suddenly had a flashback to the destructive power that one of those things had; and the thought of what it could do to a pair of teens. No one was talking or watching each other, they were all just going on their own, they weren't acting together at all; not like a team. And wasn't that the point of this? Now they were supposed to be a team of spirit detectives or something?

This was going to be just as bad as the alleyway. Alex thought... No, it was going to be worse. And once again Alex was going to stand by helplessly and do nothing. Absolutely helpless...

Well Alex wouldn't tolerate that this time. No matter haw bad it was going to be, he wouldn't see it get any worse if there was something, anything, he could do about it. Standing, he grabbed the first thing he could and tossed it at the large man. It was only once it was flying that Alex realized he had grabbed his backpack. Lot of good that was going to do.

The overfilled bag harmlessly bounced into the demon and burst open scattering books and papers into the air. The compacted materials flew into the air and the looser papers began to slowly flutter to the ground.

However, one piece in particular seemed to catch Alex's eye as it sailed along; it was the sheet of formless chicken-scratch that Alex had made yesterday when he had been daydreaming. Alex didn't know why, but he knew suddenly that the paper was no longer normal, it was what he had thought was on fire when he had been a ghost.

Though he was still halfway across the room, Alex suddenly felt connected with the paper; like he could reach out and touch it without moving a muscle. A sudden burning feeling seemed to ignite within Alex's chest, a fire that seemed to burn higher and higher with each beat of his heart. But Alex didn't feel bad or scarred, on the contrary he felt great. If felt like when he was practicing punching on a speed ball and hit a perfect rhythm that he felt he could keep up for hours, or when he was out skating and just crested a hill so he got to rush all the way to the bottom.

Alex could feel the fire inside him rush out from his chest and run up his arms. The power seemed to pull his hands together and Alex, almost instinctively, clapped his palms together with his middle and pointer fingers pointing up while his ring finger and pinky were folded over the opposite hand. With the power now flowing in a solid circuit Alex suddenly knew that he could send it out to the paper that was floating.

As the strange fiery invisible energy began to poor out of Alex in a rush the paper suddenly straightened itself and began to glow with a bright white light. At the same time Alex began to speak though he barely realized what he was saying. "Now, denizen of spirit and flesh! Let the crimes of your life fall upon your shoulders! Under three skies I command thee be sealed! Earth! Heaven! Hell!" Though Alex didn't even seem to be aware of his speaking it was in a strong yell that carried though the room. Finishing the incantation he broke his arms from each other and extended his open hands at the strange man. "Three World Spirit Seal!"

Lina cursed under her breath. Damn! Those Wormhole bastards must still be after Bleu...

She rushed forward to grab Botan's oar, and soon awoke to a chaotic scene. Some of ther other classmates were fighting a strange-looking man, and with a jolt, she realized that he was most likely a demon.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Alex doing some kind of weird incantation and instictively ducked out of the way. She moved to the back of the classroom, looking for anything she could use as a weapon.

Gary's Eyes widened as Sonny surprised him by lighting his tie on fire and then knocking his hostage out of his hands with a chair. Gary's surprise grew as his hostage slowly rose from the ground, alive, and very, very pissed off. Damien quickly wound up and threw his signature explosive ball at Gary, However, the demon snapped out of his stupor and threw himself out of the ball's way, allowing it to explode into wall where it left a big crater from the impact.

However, He wasn't out of the woods yet. Jack closed in and delivered an onslaught of punches and kicks. Although it didn't hurt him, it did slam him into the wall. Whereupon Alex unleashed some sort of incantation. "Now, denizen of spirit and flesh! Let the crimes of your life fall upon your shoulders! Under three skies I command thee be sealed! Earth! Heaven! Hell!"

A blinding light emanated from Alex's sheet of paper and his hands. Suddenly Arm and leg cuffs appeared around Gary's ankles and wrists and locked them in place. Unable to maintain balance, the man toppled over onto the ground. "Oi! Lemme go you little assholes! Who do you think you are!? Pulling MAgical powers out of your asses and whatnot?" Gary muttered through gritted teeth.

Jason was one of the last to finally step back into the world of the living. But by the time he awoke, it was already over.

"So, now that we caught him, now what should we do with him?" Jason asked the part of the group that was conscious.

Bleu sighed in relief as the group defeated the Demon. "Thanksss again everyone, I'm sssorry that you all keep getting involved in my affairsss." Bleu smiled. "Hopefully I can think of ssssome way to repay you all for your kindnessss"

Sorry guys, I'm a bit pressed for time atm so I apologise if any of this feels a bit rushed. I'm on Vacation in florida atm and We have very limited Internet access.

"I say we pump him for answers." Lina said, hoping to make up for her lack of action.

Then again, this job will probably provide a lot of chances to fight. She thought.

Damien was still annoyed that he hadn't hit the demon at all. "The ugly bastard tried to hold me hostage, and I don't even get to repay 'im?" Then Damien heard Lina's suggestion and grinned evilly. "Oh, I think I c'n do that." Damien then processed what the demon had said. His left eye twitched slightly and he flexed his left hand, a sure sign he was getting pissed off by the speaker and could barely hold it in anymore. "Who do we think we are? Who the fuck do you think you are?" Damien wound back and kicked the demon full force in the head. He doubted it would do much, but damn it felt good. "Now, I realize I ain't like Angelo- Mister Straight 'n Narrow. But while I don't 'ave too many morals, I do 'ave a few. And guess what they are? You don't fuck with the weak, you don't hit women, and you don't hurt the few people I call friends. Guess what? You managed to screw yerself over in all three ways." Damien grabbed the demon by his horns and flipped him over, showing him the crater. "See that? That can be you, quite easily. I really don't care what happens to you right now- you make me sick. Bleu might be a demon, but you know what? As far as I c'n tell, she's just tryin' to eke out a livin', tryin' to live the American Dream like all o' us. But guys like you- who rape because they're in a position of power, ruin the lives of others, and feed off misery- you are nothing, sick animals that should not exist." Damien began to pull the demon to the windows. Thankfully, he didn't have to go far with the heavy demon. He pointed to a black Ford. It had the horns of Chuck duct-taped to the hood of the car. Only those with spiritual awareness could see them.

Damien flipped the demon back over. "Those were the horns o' a demon I made a promise to. I think 'is name was Chuck, but I could be wrong. I tend to forget scum easily." He shrugged. "Do you wanna know what the promise was? I caught 'im keepin' watch while 'is buddy Lenny tried t' have his way with Bleu 'ere. So I promised him that I would take 'is goddamn horns and use 'em fer hood ornaments. I don't break promises. Now, I'll promise you this: if ya don't tell us everything you know 'bout Wormhole, and I mean everything, I will send everyone out of the room so they don't get hurt, an' you an' I will figure out how long I can keep my sphere stable when it's inside yer gut." Damien's eyes were cold. In his eyes, Gary was worth less than gum he might scrape off his shoe.

Angelo stood up. He had entered his body much later than the others, and missed quite a bit. He rubbed his eyes and got used to being alive again, a physical presence that can't phase through walls. Someone that can actually do things in the world. The thought of being a spirit and having no effect on anything was a chilling one.

Angelo saw that Gary had been essentially dealt with and the group was deciding what to do with the demon. Damien was, in a word, pissed. He asked him angrily about Wormhole, being the so-bad-he-just-might-kill-him cop. Lina's statement beforehand agreed. Angelo walked towards the small interrogation.

"Don't think that just because I'm late doesn't mean I won't hurt you, because really," Angelo straightened his clothes out and shot him a glare, "I would love to see someone of such pitiful evil ruined and dead."

I am SO FUCKING SORRY for not posting often enough. It's kind of made this awkward, but I needed to get in as fast as I could before it got more awkward.

Alex was quite aware of the energetic manacles that he had called into being. But beyond the fact that the new demon menace had been disabled he was having problems registering much else.

Alex's vision swam and his view of the room blurred again. The fire that had seemed to fill Alex only a moment ago seemed to be completely gone and with it went his strength as well. Alex could feel his legs buckle under him as they suddenly gave way.

Unable to even stay standing or slow his fall in any way Alex sunk to his knees then pivoted straight down onto the floor.

"Mmm n.k." Alex muttered, now laying face down on the floor he didn't even feel the strength to move his mouth much. He wondered if he could even move a single finger.

...

Nope, even that single motion was impossible. Alex's lungs burned as he took every slight breath and his heartbeat hammered in his ears. And yet, he didn't actually feel in danger or bad; just really really exhausted.

Besides, he was far to excited by what he had just done. There was no doubt in Alex's mind that the paper and power had all been his. Alex now knew that the tests had been right; that he had spiritual powers just like all the others. Now he could definitely help them, keep them safe.

But maybe not quite so much next time...

"mm, jus gnna lay here fr a bit. n.k.?"
