I concur completely with "ALTTP beats OOT". ALTTP ate a retarded amount of hours of my childhood on my GBA. It had a fuckload of dungeons, and I spent so much time playing that game I memorized every single thing. I memorized the entire damn game. Between obsessively reading the guidebook I borrowed from a friend for two years, and playing and playing the game... it was like heroin or something. I just loved everything about it.

OOT, on the other hand, I never played until recently because I'm not old enough to have been around for the N64. I picked it up, first on Gamecube, then on Virtual Console to try that controller, and it just isn't very good IMO. The controls are alright, but that game just hasn't stood the test of time! Whereas games with 8 and 16 bit graphics have.

Fans have actually made both LTTP and OOT into an engine that allows you to make your own version of it. Few good mods for the both of them.

But LTTP is the better one of the 2.

Also, I feel this is related. [http://www.zfgc.com/#?action=games&sa=view&id=87]

At the time ocarina was great cause it was new and different. Your relavtively young i assume but you must remmeber when "Next gen" graphics were just coming in and people were buying kameo like OMG WTF THE GRAPHICS ARE REALL!!

Edit: But i agree with you that i prefer to play ALTTP i've spent many fond hours on that game
I'm 29 LOL.

And actually this could help with my bias as I played ALTTP when it came out and only got Ocarina last week... but even 'at the time' the graphics looked shit to me! (but I hated polygons when I was a kid, dunno why...)
LoZ: OoT was a milestone in gaming for Nintendo. It was (at the time) one of their most graphically pleasing, widest-ranging game thus far. The sheer size of Hyrule Field alone is enough to prove my point. OoT was a technological accomplishment for Nintendo, and probably pushed the envelope more than any other Zelda game before (or after) it.

Now, personally, I prefer OoT. A Link to the Past was great and all, but it simply paled in comparison to the sheer grandeur of OoT. A Link to the Past's top-down gameplay seemed boring to me after playing through the original LoZ; it was the same game with a new twist and items.

Granted, that's what LoZ has turned into. But that's besides the point.

OoT's story, writing, and setting are all far and above A Link to the Past's. In terms of gameplay, they were roughly similar.

I will grant this, however; being a rabbit in A Link to the Past was awesome. Bloody awesome.

Ocarina is the best even though I havent even played the other one...

I would like the other one in game play probobly but the Ocarina of time will always be better in my eyes(it was the first game I ever played)

Ocarina of Time's story felt like a complete copy and paste of A Link to the Past's story, which is why I like A Link to the Past better. It had some of the coolest Zelda items ever, a great story, and the coolest incarnation of the Master Sword. There's so much about that game to love.

I have fully played through one Zelda game(Wii) and it was perfectly good. I think there should be more Zelda haters, why isn't there more Zelda haters? There are plenty of Halo haters and many other games, but everyone loves Zelda!
I guess Zelda games tend to live up to the Hype more than Halo and people do get the nostaligia from thier youth with them.

Are you serious? In my class the Nintendo/Sega debate was far more heated than any 360/PS3 fanboy war of nowadays... we used to get in to fistfights over whether Mario or Sonic was better

BTW obviously Mario was waaaay better...
It wasn't until the Genesis/SNES days that the console war really kicked off.

In the 80's Sega was more undergroundish I guess, I never knew anyone who owned a master system, never saw ads on tv or anthing... then in like late 1989/1990 I started seeing "Genesis does what Nintendon't" ads.. that was the first shot of console wars as we know them.
Respectfully, you are wrong... the SNES and Mega Drive had a huge fan rivalry, even the magazines of the time got in on it, they would have comic strips of Sonic beating Mario up and vice versa...
Did you read what I said at all? I said that the console wars started with the Genesis/SNES days. You're agreeing with me by saying the rivalry was heated during the Genesis/SNES days.

I'm saying that during the 80's when it was the NES and Master system, there wasn't that much of a war because Sega didn't mobilize for it and Nintendo was enjoying huge profits and didn't really have much competition. It was in the 80's.. not the SNES/Genesis days.. that Zelda took its roots as a fan favorite series.
My bad, just googled the Genesis there and found out it is the same thing as what we called Mega Drive over on these shores, I had always thought the Genesis was a different console.

We had a NES and a Master System and yes, there was no competition between the two really, the NES had Mario, Contra (though it was called probotector over here), and Marble Madness while the Master System had.. er, Alex Kidd...

By the way guys I am now in Zora's domain with no fucking clue where to go as I can't hold enough Rupees in my wallet to buy the damn Blue Tunic and I just spent half an hour repeatedly trying to get up a cliff with a chicken to get a damn piece of heart... this game is really pissing me off lol

My list goes:

1. Link to the Past
2. Link's Awakening
3. Ocarina of Time
4. Oracle of Ages

Those are the ones I really enjoyed. I think Link's Awakening is pretty underrated.

You raise some good points, but OOT still kicks the ass of most games. It maybe the 1 game of all time

Nah man. The water temple is one of the best temples ever and so is the forest temple.

Dark Link FTW!

For me, LTTP is better than OOT simply because it looks a lot cleaner. If I try and play through OOT now I get bored, all that keeps me going is the nostalgia every damn time I hear Saria/Eponas theme. (Fyi, I played LTTP after OOT). I can finish LTTP without getting bored simply because it's so fun - and whoever pointed it out, those animations feel way more epic than even some of the effects you see in modern games.

Majoras mask was good, but not as brilliant as some people made it out to be. It was too focused on "Oh shit day 3 gotta go back in time" early on to get me into it properly.

But yeah, OOT still beats many modern games in terms of sheer gameplay. Controls and Camera however are terrible in that.

And on a final nostalgia note:

HEY!

HEY!

HEY!

HEY!

Nope you're right, the only thing that lets me consider OOT to be good is nostalgia. Granted Majoras Mask would hand them both their collective ass.
Quite so. Who doesn't love wearing masks?

... that said, I'd probably have to pick OoT over LttP. Both are great games, and at both release times they were something very special. LttP was the first game I ever properly sat down and played, so it does have nostalgia for me... however, I prefer to replay OoT. Can't really put my finger down on why... maybe the storyline? The sidequests? The urge to find every single last piece of heart? Iunno. Many people have already given their reasons as to which one is better, and I agree with all of them - but I still tend to favour OoT. And of course, LA is damn fine, too.

But having read through people's comments on the controls... how were they difficult? I never had a problem. the Z-targeting system was fanastic, and it's only problematic if you flip the trigger from 'hold down' to 'press'. Didn't have any problems with the Water Temple either - as long as you go through the whole thing in one sitting (or don't stay away from it too long), you should be fine. I also like just hanging around in the Forest Temple, really like the music and atmosphere in there.

I'd have to go with OoT. I like the story and atmosphere somewhat better for some reason. Both are great though.

And the Water Temple wasn't that hard for me. Had a lot of going in circles, but not as brain-twistingly hard as everyone says it is.

That room in Turtle Rock, though, that pisses me off. You know what I'm talking about.
