Imagine if you could go back in time and get hired by 3D Realms to work on Duke Nukem Forever? I could putz around inventing and reinventing a game for 10 years without having to worry about ever releasing because I know it's not meant to be.
You might have to shave off half your moustache though. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/de-rez/46-The-Truth-About-3D-Realms]

I can't recall when I last laughed this much. I've been following the development of DNF (Duke Nukem Forever, obviously. It would be silly to mean Did Not Finish...) since DN3D, and so it was an absolute delight to watch this spectacular waste of time and effort get shredded.

It's a shame, but really - with over a decade in development, there was no way this was going to work. Even if it had got released it would have proven a massive disappointment and the biggest over-hyped bollocks since Daikatana.

Such an epic masterpiece, and a game that Yahtzee actually likes! See, it only takes a decade to make a game that fits his incredible standards!

Another excellent one, Yahtzee. I was howling half the time.
dear god i hope this guy is being sarcastic.

Yahtz' deffinately knows how to hammer in his sharp acurate point into painfull places in the soul that forces one to abandon the vauge reflection of a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel we have been in for 12 years * forever.
Its realy not so great to faff about long enough to encur yathzeuz' wrath, he did say in one AG podcast that a big man wouldn't do a whole video taking the cheese about one thing because they personaly didn't like it, but I think he is excused for being so funny and so right.

and at the guy who says wiki. thought its worth mentioning, anyone can edit wikipedia, I regularly rearange large paragraphs to either spell out rude words or just 100% backwards.
that is such a great cryptography article now. aside... so saying that wiki has it on merely means no one on wiki knows or cares enough to have removed it.

oh and if you could go back in time 10 years and work on it, and if anyone does, se about trying to list the awesome game points Y/Z made in the vid, and fill in lill checkboxes as you make an awesome game!

Wow, so much feeling for something that was, after all, a joke at the developer's expense.

To those reading all this and thinking "But Yahtzee is a game reviewer - I want actual game reviews!" please ask yourself, why do we actually log on to the Escapist and watch ZP? Is it for the in-depth analysis of a game? Is it to listen to the pearls of wisdom spewing forth from the frantic mouth of the reviewer? Or is it because Yahtzee has a humourous and scathing reviewing style backed by amusing animations that, when viewed in the spirit intended, makes us laugh?

If you want a good, in-depth review, look elsewhere. If you want to get the feel for a game and laugh your a$$ off at someone who genuinely has a talent for sarcastic wit, watch Yahtzee.

I know I'll be back next week.

Oh, and I echo the sentiment that the Escapist sets the boundaries for Yahtzee's job. Just because we see him as a game reviewer doesn't mean to say that the Escapist don't place value on his skills as an entertainer. I was entertained, were you?

I'm not going to wade through 17 pages of inane comments, but I bet not a single one of them talks about all the hype and press generated by DNF. Probably one of the most successful ad campaigns ever made. DNF wasn't on anyone's mind, really, for 12 years until just recently.

Thanks for adding to all of it, Yahtzee. You're now just another cog in their masterplan.

Did you people whining about reviewing actual games see "Mailbag Showdown", "Console Rundown", "Yahtzee goes to GDC", "Webcomics", "Awards for 2008", "Year in Review - 2008", or "E3 Trailer Park"? Or did you go whine in those topics too?

On the note of videos, escapist videos won't load for me. They used to, but now they don't. I've done every single thing in the troubleshooting area. It's really annoying me. Has this happened to anyone else?

Yeah but as I was trying to say, the point really is - were you entertained by the vid? If so, mission accomplished, and be damned with the supposed extra press. If not.....well, there's always next time.

Well as I sort of mentioned offhandedly somewhere back there in this massive pile of posts noone is bother to read (especially not Yahtzee) I don't think there are many games out there for Yahtzee to review right now. Releases have been pretty slow this year it seems.

I for one have been joking about the Escapist forcing him to review "Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2" but in part because everyone sort of knows what that game is like, what Yahtzee will think of it, etc... so really why bother? What else is there out there for him that he would have had time enough to play?

inFamous just came out, as did Cross Edge. Sacred 2 is a port from a PC game that he didn't review when it was new (and it's not his genere as we all know), Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier is a DS RPG deeply rooted in Anime Fanservice... and well... I mean I can see how we ran into a filler installment.

Besides it *was* quite funny, and while true everyone is making fun of this Yahtzee's DNF joke was funnier than most.

Though it WILL be amazing if DNF comes out and it actually *IS* that awesome, expectations busting game. You know, sort of like what Too Human was supposed to be with all of it's dev time. :)

Despite the fact how obvious this was a parody (a very funny one mind you) it's sad that more then half your audience is still going to think this is a real review and will spend the next week looking for the game only to finally figure it out when one of their friends bold facilely tells them it was a joke. Though, I admit, I had to look this up on Wikipedia just to make sure I understood this was a fake review. You are well known for pulling people legs then pulling their legs clean off. Anyhow, well done...

NOW LET'S MOVE ON WITH OUT LIVES! 12 years, come on man. It's not happening. Unless the game cures cancer and teleports hookers into the room, no one is going to buy it after all this waiting, assuming a release is even slightly possible at this point.

This almost had me believing for a minute that I had completely missed some info on this game and it had slipped past me. But then I came to my senses.
