"Maybe if they left somethin'," Dewey said, trudging back into the SUV after looking around for anything of interest.
"There were no tracks or anything here...this town was left quite awhile ago," Albert said, looking around at the countryside.

((Argh, I hate it when you want to go to a concert but you're not sure if you can make it. And you don't have tickets for it. Grrr, I need to see Muse again dammit! ))

JD was utterly lost.

"What do we do now? Where do we go from here? I'm pretty sure we can't go back to the city, Jack would probably have our heads on a platter. And there's no way we can regroup with the others." He said, head hanging solemnly.

Then he heard what Dewey said.

"It's a stretch, but you could be right Dew." JD said, jumping into the conductor's cabin, searching for clues.

Christie bit her nail and made a note or two on the map.
"Only downside to my plan is that if I get lost, I won't be able to find myself with the GPS. Sacrifices need to be made though-Heh, you look happy."

"This is unbelievable..." Lisa laughed, she was still in disbelief as she handed her bag over to be checked.
Maybe things will finally get better...

Jack marked down time and date on the coordinates given on the map. As soon as he got a main point that they stayed at for multiple hours, he would have a good idea of where to search.

"I am Christie, I am. For the first time since this whole debacle started, I'm doing what I loved to do. I don't know if you know what I taught, but I taught physics. The field had me ensnared since I first learned about it. I had always strived to know the whys of the universe, and physics told you why. I got into teaching partly because there were no laboratory jobs, and partly because I hoped to impart my love of the science to others. This is my element, and my love.

If I watch them for just a few days gathering data, I can figure them out to a point. I can figure out their base, how far they move in a day, and if they found any areas of interest that they return to again and again. Most importantly, I can find out if they have settled somewhere, if they are moving, and if they have settled down where they did." Jack said still smiling as he watched the coordinates on the screen.

Adries and Lisa were let inside the small town, named Lakeside, and they were shown around. It was a very homey town, everyone seemed really friendly and social.

"Hey, so who's the boss here?" Adries asked the guard who was leading them around.
"We don't really have one. I mean, if anything important comes up we all just do a vote," he explained, "Our sheriff and mayor are probably the only ones who could be considered 'leaders', everyone else just kinda goes about their life."
"Huh, nice. So you haven't had much people come? How often do you get zombies?"
"Well, initially we were told on the radio and stuff that there was zombies, but none really came until after we had put up our barricades and stuff. Even then there were never that many except once or twice, but we were able to hold them down. Every once in awhile we get some other survivors, but as I said you two are the first."

((Finally finished my Mass Effect playthrough! Now to do it again to get to level 60! :D
Also, if any of you guys can come up with interesting little plots or ideas for the superhero roleplay PM me. Still working on the major story, but we'll need smaller ones. Also, if any of you can come up with a good name for the Superhero's group that'd be great! ))

Chapter 17: Lakeside

Well, we practically have three different stories going on at the time, don't we?:

1) Jack and Christie are planning their impending attack on Alan and the others. But they gotta find them first...

2)Adries and Lisa have seemed to stumble across and small, well-off town named Lakeside. Will the town's inhabitants help fight Jack's zombie army?

3) JD, Carver, Uncle Al, Jacobs, and Dewey can't seem to find the other survivors, so they decide to set up near the train and a dusty, desolate, town; in hopes that they'll see their friends again.

Alone in the dusty town, carver sat in the broken bay window of an old auto shop. Leaned up against the side he sat letting one foot hang. He was tapping it and keeping time to an old John Hooker song playing on a Radio. He found out that several stations had 3 day loops that had been activated. The loops were set to activate in the case of natural disaster that would keep the stations employees from being able to work.

The blues station came in loud and clear, despite the fact Carver was no where near it. He sang along quietly.

"Baby Imma poor man, an Imma blues man, but Imma good man. I know that when Imma gone from dis world, I dunno whats a comon next, but I know da good lords put it in me, I may be a poor man, and I may be a blues kinda man, but a good man more so."

JD jumped out of the conductor's cabin.

"Nothing..." he said, sighing heavily.

He started walking back towards the town, head hung low.

"Maybe they...just forgot about us..." He said, his eyes pinned to the ground.

Suddenly, his foot bumped against a empty can. As he picked it up, he saw several others, scatted around. His mind sparked an idea.

"Hm. I might as well, seeing that we're gonna be stuck here for awhile." He said to himself.

He gathered the various cans and set them on a windowsil, each one standing up side-by-side. He then took several steps back.

"I always wanted to try this." He said.

Quickly, he drew out his G18 and took out the cans with blinding speed, before setting the gun back on auto and putting it back in the holster. He walked back up to the cans to see the results. He missed one completely.

"Guess i'm not used to shooting on Standard." He said before setting up the cans again.

"Not bad JD" Carver said still in the window sill. He unholstered his 45. and tossed it to him. "Try out the sights on this one. I think its accuracy is a bit off, probably just wear and tear from time, its a pretty old gun."

"Don't get me wrong, but it's weird to see you so damn happy," Christie sniggered before lighting up a cigarette and fixating back on the screen, "But non-the-less, you seem to be the man with the plan, or rather the man who knows how to conduct his plan. Being able to pinpoint their main location will be better than turning up and they flee."

Lisa looked around, feeling an odd sense of relief and joy.
"Well, It's amazing that somewhere like this exists..." Lisa added.

As Carver tossed the weapon, JD fumbled it, flinching as it hit the ground, going off in a random direction. JD facepalmed before picking up the .45.

"Jesus Christ, I got enhanced strength and agility, and yet I'm still a clumsy ************." JD said, taking note of his human faults, Remembering that there was still some human left in him.

As he picked up the gun, he grinned slightly at it.

"This has a really good feel to Carve, I'm liking the weight to it." JD said, showing his enthusiasm for firearms.

After thoroughly examining the gun, he finally turned his attention back to the cans.

"Hey, Lisa. Alan will be happy to hear this, better than getting him a soda!" Adries declared happily, as they were left to walk around town. "I don't think we'll tell these townsfolk about the cure or anything yet though. What do you reckon?" Adries asked, taking a seat at a table outside of town's hotel.

"Not yet," Lisa nodded, "We'll definitely tell them soon enough though, We need to immunize as many as we can. Maybe in a few days?"
She joined Adries.
"The town's nice. Looks like we won't need to go scavenging either."

"Well thank you on the second point, and on the first I will simply say this. I know, but when you're doing what you love you can't help but be happy. Especially with you and it being separated so long. I'll probably also scout the area, I don't know much about what lies in that direction. There may be a human settlement if previous information is to be believed, but where it lies I know not. I also know nothing of possible surveillance or defenses in that area, and I must know more before I move an army in. Especially if there is a settlement of humans that has held out this long. I may be able to strike a deal to keep them out of the battle, and if not I need to know what to surround and destroy after I create my first radius of your sister's location." Jack said as he continued to watch the GPS and mark time on the map, he marked locations and times every twenty minutes.

"Indeed. Seems the people here are willing to give you anything if you need it, quite nice," Adries said, looking around at the other survivors, "We'll continue to explore for a bit then head back to Alan in the evening, sound good?"

"Well this sucks," Dewey muttered, throwing a rock at the train.
"Well no shit boy. Do you guys reckon we should try to move along? Not wait here but continue searching?" Albert asked them, looking over at them.

After finishing target practice, JD gave the gun back to Carver, and turned to Uncle Al.

"I guess we should. We'll starve if we stay out here any longer. But where should we go? I don't really see anything on the horizon..." He said, voice trailing off. Then he walked back to the SUV.

"Well, I've always been the traveling type. And I'm starting to get hungry. So if we're gonna go anywhere, we should start before it gets dark. If I'm right, it should be a few minutes past noon, and it might be awhile before we find anything." JD said, looking up at the sun, then looking down at his shadow.

"Let's just hope we find something, eh?" JD said, patting Uncle Al on the shoulder.

"Sounds good to me," Lisa agreed when something came to mind, "Are we going to stay at the lab or start staying around here? It won't be suspicious or anything, would it?"

Christie lent against the chair and took a few puffs from the cigarette, "Be careful. especially if such a place exists and they have defenses. Although you're dressed smart, you still look pretty dead, they'd probably shoot you on sight. That's probably their mantra if the town is still alive and kicking."

"Who said I was going to do it? Leapers moving silently could easily enter the area and remain undetected thanks especially to the boost to their motor cortex. They stick to the tree canopy and they could spy on the humans and report back without them ever noticing. If you think the legends of your ninja are bad, well these new leapers are about ten times better with their enhanced abilities. Mostly because the ninja needed man made tools and the leapers have these tools as apart of their biology, but still." Jack said as he continued.

"We should probably stay with Alan more, but come here every once in awhile. Probably to eat and stuff," Adries replied, "This place will make a great home."

"Hey guys-" Jacobs started before getting interrupted.
"We can always drive around, but sooner or later we'll run out of food and gas. We should think this through," Albert said.
"Hey gu-"
"Well alrigh', not sure where we can begin though. Have ta' go with educated guesses," Dewey said.
"Hello! People, I found a footprint leading to the North! We can follow that!" Jacobs said, getting frustrated with the all the interruptions.

"Of course. How foolish of me...The boss doesn't do dirty work." Christie nodded, taking a long drag.

"Home. I like the sound of that." Lisa commented with a bright smile, "Then we'll find the others too. Tell them about this place..." She trailed off at the thought of safety happily.
