Do you think that Yahtzee wants to be flattered? No! Fans are clingy complaining dip shits that will never ever be great full no matter how many confessions you make....
Yeah so don't impersonate Yahtzee...
*sigh*

Exactly why I hate forums...

Discussion of Yahtzee as well as quotes from should be an offense punishable with probations and warnings.

Assuming from your poor choice of language i guess you dont know how to express yourself so you use curse words, common in kids, which is i reported you, but its probably your parents fault.

Whats up with all the "no trademark before 1870" thats neither here nor there, what does being able to quote old books have to do with people using Yahtzee words, and i have to say you are an imbecile to bring up the definition of quote straight from wikipedia since we all know what it means. People do not literally quote the man they just use words he does, just because he said something doesnt mean someone else cant say it, which is what angers the creator of this post, and thats different than full on quoting someone.

Btw its a forum, im not writing a novel here so i dont use grammar, people dont use it that much on the internet or in any online game, people use slang and short words, also people who point out grammar on the internet are either children or people who cant stand reading something without apostrophes, look it up.

Also i said its NOT trademarked so people can quote away, just like they can quote anything else whether its before 1870 or after, so your post is obsolete

I will now cease stooping at your level and cause talking to you.
Heh, looking at all this gobbledegook, I feel a compelling need to paraphrase Yahtzee on it, so here goes:
"...Above all else, never accept defeat because online conflict is what keeps traffic figures high as people will gather around to watch you like a monkey flinging its poo around."

On topic, yes, I've pretty much just gone and done what we're condemning here, haven't I? But then, it's only because we're on a topic about Yahtzee quoting/paraphrasing so it kinda felt instinctive in a rebellious sort of way. Not that there's much I can say on the subject that hasn't really been covered already; people will either quote Yahtzee because they like him or can't think for themselves, or because a particular quote is relevent to the situation and is the first thing to pop into the poster's mind, people quoting him out of context are idiots and the world continues to give nothing short of a huuuuge turd... DAMMIT!

I actually made a thread about what brought them to the Escapist, and A LOT of people replied with Zero Punctuation. Yahtzee is like gravity; people get drawn to him....and that's a Fast and Furious quote, not a Yahtzee one...

I am part of that 90%, but Unforgotten Realms was the show to get me to sign up here. ZP is just one of the many good things in the Escapist, so it's not exactly a rare thing to see ZP quotes here.

Some people do that. Does it piss me off? A little. But not as much as when they take his side of any argument.

I was actually brought to this website because Rurikar stopped making Unforgotten Realms on youtube and I found he was making them here.

Edit: Oh this is a response to those people saying 90% were brought here by ZP

Theres 102 episodes, each with a lot of words, he didnt trademark any of it so using them too is not quoting him.
"Quotation is used in text to indicate the words of another speaker or writer." -wikipedia

Ugh. You know what else isn't trademarked? The Gettysburg address, Forest Gump, or anything that anything before 1870.
Uh dont be silly and look around, people dont quote him like that, they dont say "as yahtzee said, pants on head retarded" they just use his words as his own, thats what bothers people so dont try and be a smartass
Look up the fucking definition of quote. I know it. Your grammar is poor, so I assume you aren't that old, and are probably due a dose if humility.

And by the way, the phrase "due a dose of humility" as I've said it is something Yahtzee once said in an AG podcast. It's not trademarked, yet it's a quote. I generally try not to resort to abuse, but you're a moron.

Assuming from your poor choice of language i guess you dont know how to express yourself so you use curse words, common in kids, which is i reported you, but its probably your parents fault.

It' doesn't work that way. The conversation won't end where you want it to end because you said you would cease talking to me. I get to keep on rambling.

You first brought up the word trademark, which really has nothing to do with quoting, not me. And it was out of place when you said it, which you confirmed just now. The way you had said it first was an implication that a quote was only a quote if it was trademarked. Which would be retarded.

By poor grammar, I meant you leave out necessary words in sentences. That goes a little beyond the usual forum slang.

I used one curse word. It fit. You asked me to look something up - can you be more specific? Your grammar makes it a bit confusing and hard to follow.

Also, I no longer think you are a child. I now think you are a particularly dumb child. Especially if you thought my post was worthy of being reported. Disagreement is not reason for punishment, except maybe in your case, since it's frankly embarrassing to the Escapist website to have someone like you here.

Feel free to post or not post - I won't quit.

But hold on...isn't it just human nature to pick up others' phrases and adopt them if you like them or find them particularly appropriate? We don't all spontaneously create new phrases every time we want to express something.
I have to admit, not too many of Yahtzee's gems have entered my general vocabulary, but every time I'm stuck behind/dealing with something/someone who is going annoyingly slowly, the phrase 'punishing lack of urgency' springs to mind, and I'm pretty sure that one came from a ZP I watched at one point.
Very true. But the problem isn't that, it's people using his lines in specific regard to consoles and games out of context to support an opinion it wasn't meant to support. That's the true plague, I'd say.
Well, I guess if someone really is taking Yahtzee's words in vain, it'll go one of two ways:
1) The readers who don't know ZP will just assume it's solely the poster's view on something and base their responses on that assumption,

or

2)The readers who are familiar with Yahtzee's own particular brand of prose will recognise the discrepancy in context and read the post accordingly, either wondering why the person used Yahtzee's words out of context or identifying with the difference and preferring the new take on the phrase...

Basically, as long as they aren't explicitly stating that Yahtzee himself said something about a game/console that he did not, in fact, say...then I guess the phrase is just one like any other that has entered the general vocab and inevitably had its meaning or usage altered. The internet is very good at that sort of thing. Just think of phrases like 'epic win' and 'lol'd' =)

EDIT: I do agree though that if your entire post consists solely of a quote, not cited, from Yahtzee, you need to think a little harder, Forums are there for you to give your own opinion on something, after all. My assumption above was that people were seasoning their posts with Yahtzee-isms, not using them as the whole post.
True true. I've especially seen problems, though, with people using posts that say "even Yahtzee says that 'the fps genre is marred by the wii controls'" (*note, may not be exact wording, but I don't feel like checking). That's a problem, because that's an out of context statement that appears to support the writers view and in actuality doesn't.

But yeah, you seem to know what you're talking about.

91% actually, how do you think I got here

OT:well, when something or someone is popular for what they say,It's only natural that it is quoted until the popularity dies down.take the batman movie, after it came out "why so serious" was everywhere, especially xbox mottos.take that knowledge and factor in that the popular thing or person is actually on this site, and guess what you get?ben yahtzee clones.

until he is no longer hilarious, which I doubt is gonna be anytime soon,he is gonna be quoted,

so just sit back, shut up,and laugh.

Alright i see your reasonable i'l post my side. You were quite offensive in your post when were just having a conversation, its not like i really reported you, but i was slightly offended by your rambling and poor choice of words. You took my "trademark" word far too seriously, i didn't intend to prove a point with it, i just said "its not like its trademarked or anything" to support my opinion that people can use quotes if they want to and that its not illegal so they can quote Yahtzee as annoying and out of context as it is at times, not that i want to talk about trademark laws. About grammar, don't call people children if they don't care about grammar, that's a bit silly, i call people children when they behave like they are always right and shout out curse words when they cant find a good argument. The reason for my poor grammar is that most of the time i post from 1 am to 4 am, and using grammar while typing strains me, i go to the forum to unwind so i don't like to strain myself. I also type really fast so i don't really enjoy using punctuation since i feel people can understand me without it, because the internet is full of bad writing. Also messy writing takes time and i don't like wasting time, so i'm not juvenile for bad grammar, i'm lazy.
And disregard the "look it up" i only meant that in the way to look around and see how people don't mind bad writing most of the time and its mostly sugar crazed kids who complain, but its irrelevant.

Also a conversation can also end when one person doesn't want to talk anymore :p
Hope that clears it up, and a bit of constructive criticism never hurts.
Constructive criticism my ass. And a forum, the conversation is ended when someone decides not to retort.

As a large-scale statistic, the worse the grammar, the younger the poster. That's pretty solid. From then, I assume, because someone has poor grammar, he is likely to be a child, and therefore doesn't have enough experience to plausibly argue such a point as this. A person could also be assumed as a child for behavior, but grammar is a much easier shortcut to use the majority of the time, because my typing skills are, by now, such that it's faster to type regularly - for instance, it takes conscious thought to type a lowercase i (agh!) by itself. I'm not saying the bad grammar is juvenile, just that it's telling.

And while I may have taken trademark too far, you really messed up in your usage of it the first time around, enough so to warrant such a response from at least somebody. If it wasn't me, it would've been someone else.
