I know how you feel man. Most people on Xbox live aren't worth talking to. Party chat may be disabled, but you can always mute everyone in the game minus your friends, if they're playing with you.

As said before, 1. Depends on the order you're doing the planets, and 2. You can't continue after beating the game, but you can start a new game with the same equipment and skills, and continue to make yourself stronger for when Mass Effect 2 comes out.

You need to give it more than 4 hours. The game is wonderful if you take it all in. Take a few quests, go exploring. It picks up quickly.
