What gaming is crying out for is a decent WW2 game either a FPS or RTS. There's not been one for a couple of seconds and it's about time that changed. Maybe with a beach landing level and an on-the-rails shooting from the back of a truck bit with badly placed checkpoints. Yeah.
Nether Earth of the ZXSpectrum. The first RTS, you could directly control a unit or issue orders. It even let you design your own units.

If you like platformers get Trine, physics based, fantasy platforming goodness. But best in multipayer
For RPG's you could try Dragon Age, it's by the same people that did KOTOR.
