Dear world: if you want to commit suicide, DON'T VICTIMIZE EVERYONE ELSE. Go someplace quiet like Tijuana and piss off some obliging drug dealers.
I must disagree with that. It's other people who drive someone to suicide, and they will never change unless something drastic happens, like watching someone try and commit suicide.

It was either an accident or a suicide attempt. Either way, it's his own fault.

Haha very nice that actually made me lol :D

Thats kinda crazy though to actually do that, he probably just got picked on all the time and decided that was the best way to get back at them or something.

Hey bro. Keep trolling from your "civilized" Australia (which is 5 places behind America in suicide rates, for the record).

OT: *Sigh. Kids. Next thing you know people will be getting all "ZOMG HE WAS BULLIED IT'S THEIR FAULT WE NEED TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN FROM THE EVIL BULLIES", unless they just skip straight to blaming video games somehow.

So instead of dealing with his problems he tries to kill himself? Sounds like a productive member of society, wait no I'm lying. I'm going to go reload the gun for this waste of DNA.

If you really want to become a productive member of society then I would recommend gaining a little empathy and selflessness before spouting off about how useful and important the lives of other people you have never met are.
Yeah, the kid had problems, and he didn't know how to address them. He tried reaching out to his friends, but tragically no one realised he was in such a depressed state, and no one was there to talk him out of it. With no other guidance available he took the worst choices and shot himself. It was a lack of empathy that caused this horrible event, an attribute you seem to be all too proud of.

Thanks for your comment, you sure were a productive member of this thread, wait no I'm lying. You are part of the problem here, not a high and mighty superior person.

Dude, the kid is fourteen. The fuck do you expect from him? To be a soulless husk of a person with no emotions other than a fear of death? Something is seriously wrong with this situation, and we don't have all the information.

OT: If, and I'm only saying IF, the kid was being bullied, the fact that he didn't attempt to take anyone with him might point to two things.
A) It goes beyond just normal bullying.
B) Literally way too many people to take with him.

So this is probably bad. REALLY bad. At least the kid is alive...But the school is probably gonna pull a dick move and expel him, basically blaming only him and not looking into it.

I feel obligated to post this video. Everyone in this thread seems to be really unsympathetic about this. I'm guessing that you people are going to claim you "had it worse." Well if even if that is true, it doesn't make this justified. Anyway, I'm sure his class will be traumatized for life and all that jazz.

Of course, the first thing I see are folks going, 'Well, if they just banned all the guns then nobody'd ever commit suicide!'. It is a shame what happened to this kid, but the reality of the situation is that if he really wanted to kill himself, he could have EASILY found another way to do it. Unless you guys have also banned high bridges and sharp implements, this one situation is about as good an argument for gun control as wanting to ban cars because of the vastly greater amounts of people killed by them every year.

I don't know what happened. I'd agree with earlier posters - it seems like he was probably being bullied and decided to get back at everyone that way. Unfortunately, the logic of a suicidal teenager is rarely sound. He needed help and support, which he didn't get.

That's assuming that's what happened. I am REALLY curious how a 14 year old would be at an elementary school, because I was 14 my freshman year in high school. A lot of odd things here.

Did you know there's a country where every male is required to serve in the army, and every male is issued a fully-automatic rifle and 72 rounds of live ammunition to keep at home? Do you know which one it is? Switzerland. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQXPjLBc6Nk]

In other news, the fact that the main evidence you provide for your views on gun control involves the words "stupid" and "dumbshits" I think that more or less rules you out as a well-studied authority on the subject.

Oh wow, another unstable kid killed themselves. Whatever.
Oh, I'm sorry, is the suicide attempt of a 14 year old in front of dozens of students not enough entertainment for you? Maybe you would prefer someone links to the brutal torturing of babies, would that be good enough? You disgust me more than I've ever been disgusted by a comment on the internet.
When should I start caring when somebody is cowardly enough to kill themselves rather than deal with their problems head on? I have no sympathy for these people, especially those who decide they want to make a scene out of it.

This will sound insensitive.

As shocked as I am at the poor boy, I'm more worried for the possible trauma the students must have seen. For fucks sake they are going through the worst part of puberty!

Jesus, this is disturbing just to think about. This sounds like something out of an Alan Moore novel!!

EDIT: just read the other comments. Christ you guys are insensitive. There is a reason that the boy killed himself in front of 70 students, and THAT'S why it's SO. FUCKING. DISTURBING.

Yes, because 14 year olds can purchase handguns in the United States!
Typical gun nut reponse that. Being confronted with the fact that 14 year olds get their hands on guns, ignore that fact completely because it's inconvenient, instead rag on about that they can't buy one in the supermarket and imply that's somehow a safe way to deal with deadly weapons.

I applaud your skill in deception.
Ah, the funny thing is I don't own a single gun. I have #39 antique recurve bow (not even a strong enough pull to be legal for hunting), some mutlitools and other knives, and an axe. Why, I have quite the world domination stockpile started up in my house.

Calling your obvious trollbait out and responding with sarcasm doesn't make a me a gun nut, I'm afraid. Anyway, I'll drop this now as there's not a chance of anything productive coming from it. You keep your aloof smugness, I'll keep my sarcasm, we'll both be no happier than when we started.

That is exactly how I feel about public schools but over here guns aren't exactly like a biscuit and milk that you can grab at a supermarket, the US-ians have it good.

If the kids was 14 and in elementary school, chances are that if he attended there he was in the special education program reserved for kids with mental disabilities. Which is very sad indeed that he was led via one avenue or another to shoot himself.

Secondly, this was a failing of the parents. They should keep their weapons more secure so as these things can't happen. Also, where were this guys friends, teachers, school counselors, etc.? Generally, THERE ARE WARNING SIGNS this sort of thing is going to take place. Are people so afraid of being politically correct that they don't take action when it's blatantly obvious someone is going to harm themselves or those around them?

well as its random guess time....going by that he shot himself in clear view of everyone my vote would be that he was the misfit that got picked on by everyone and he reached the now look what you made me do stage.
This pretty much.

One would assume it would have been quite easy to kill himself with the gun, and yet he survived, so maybe it was for attention? A very disturbing way of obtaining it I must say.

Any idiot?

Very few idiots, actually.

OT: If it WAS an accident and not a suicide, how'd he get a gun into school?
