A mix of Shadow of the Colossus and original FFT for me. With Shadow being the dominant one there.

My first was in Halo. Could partly be because that was the first game I'd played in five years and had no real concept of what games were like.

Half-Life 2 + episodes and Portal, obviously.

Mass Effect, cheesy final scene with your character staring at nothing included. Credit song rocks too, got me into Faunts.

Fable II...once I realized "Oh wait, that scene at the house with my sister is actually heaven."
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I would say Diablo II, but I can't. I was too busy starting back up on Nightmare difficulty.

On an unrelated note, has anyone noticed that in Diablo III the Arreat Summit is now the Arreat Crater?
Well shit. That doesn't look good.

My by far favorite ending is that of Shadow of the Colossus, by far, followed by Metal Gear Solid 3 and MGS 1.

Mass Effect was also great, at least the ending where...
...you let the council get blown up. The End was a nice mix between the typical action film "i defeated the bad guy, look how awesome i am" and a strangely foreboding atmosphere that now as the humans step up to galactic leadership, they are going to fuck that up third reich style

Portal ended with a nice moment, and although the game was just "okay" for me, i really liked the way Halo 3 ends. The Darkness also had a very good ending, although apparently your mileage may vary.

Half Life 2's Ending was generally nice, but it was a mixed feeling between "it's pretty open, but thats kind of clever" and "GAH i wanted to finish the fight and stuff!!"

CoD 4 had me going. MGS 4 actually got to me at the end.

MGS 4 before all the stories and sub plots are wrapped up. When Snake is coming out of the microwave hall. But also knowing Snake is going to die sucks.

MGS 3 was good as well. Max Payne 1 had me applauding, Max Payne 2 had me bummed. There are a lot of good ending out there.

KotOR.
Star Forge goes boom boom, you're rewarded a medal, a heroic pose orgy, and a ton of people cheering for you, then it ends off with a look to the sky.
My reaction?
"Fuck yes."

Metal Gear Solid 3. One of the most emotional games I've ever played, and my first game in the Metal Gear Solid series.
MGS3 became my favorate MGS game by the time I finished it. MGS1 is now #2 on the list. They just do so much right!

Shadow of Colossus. A bitter sweet end. I knew i'd never see a new behemoth, but the game was still soooo satisfying.
Spot on! That game felt like an artistic masterpiece from beginning to end, I have never before and have not since experienced anything so perfectly atmospheric, fun, and jarringly well executed.

I'm sorry, words just escape me. Shadow was a truly one of a kind masterpiece.

Fallout 3 did that, back before Broken Steel.
I'd decided to go into the chamber o death myself, and I realised I didn't actually know the passcode to activate it. I scanned through my pipboy and found the Revelation 21:6. Gave me this massive feeling of a connection between my character and his dad, it was a really good full stop to the end of the story for me.

HL is brilliant as well, though kind of wish they'd ditch CS2 and put the manpower into HL2 Ep3 :p

Edit: Spoiler tags because Sven is much cleverer than I am :)

Hmm...

Sauerbraten doesn't actually have a set campaign, just a series of mini ones from various artists. But that's my closest.

Let's see...
Halo. The original. It was pretty great.
Assassin's Creed left me screaming for a sequel, and it was amazing.
Also, when I finished HL2. I agree with the OP, it was quite an experience. Of course, I had the Orange Box, so I knew it wasn't over yet.

I agree about the fallout 3 ending, it was a nice tip of the iceberg to the character development. You may wanna put this in a spoiler though :p
