This. But I would also dissassemble my shed and use the wood for barricades. Just to be on the safe side.

Well, I would go down south to save a few friends who might be in trouble. But Ill say that I have a few hours to race there and race back, giving me half the time. That's fine.

First, smash the stairs. Put a step up with a rope so I can jump upstairs and pull the step up behind me the moment the zombies come.

Second, grab a spare wooden door, place it at the top of the stairs. Put nails, hammer and vegetable oil next to it, so I can seal the top of the stairs off further. Vegetable oil further inhibits climbing.

Stop up the tub and sink, and turn the water on. This will give me many many dozens of gallons of drinkable water.

Put a board next to the door to the basement. That would be a somewhat decent place to board up, and contingency plans are ALWAYS good.

Throw a bunch of stuff upstairs. First, food that can be eaten as is. Limit perishables to stuff that can be eaten before they go bad. Second, grab the flour, and make about 10 pounds of hard tack. Since I'm completely set on food at this point, grab some Nutella to make the hard tack at least palatable. Next, any supplies that might be helpful, first aid, rope, weapons from the shed, stuff to fix the barricade, etc and throw them upstairs. Lastly, grab computers and TV for the sake of avoiding damages, the board and role playing game supplies, and the few books that are downstairs. Morale still counts for something, and throwing it all upstairs will take a few minutes tops. Make sure all chargeable devices are charging, not to mention all batteries are available.

Next, re-enforce to the best of my abilities. First, close doors, pull shades, turn off lights, and block windows, so even though a determined zombie will get in the bottom floor, it will likely be too much trouble to do so if we don't make ourselves known. Next, board up all the upstairs windows. Though it would require a climbing, nimble zombie, it's worth it to be on the safe side. Next, make sure that all the doors can be quickly shut and locked secure by an intelligent person on either side, so unforeseen invasions can be sealed off. Lastly, make sure that access to the roof is locked, but easily opened and then locked by an intelligent person on either side, just in case things REALLY go wrong, and the roof is the last ditch hope. Throw some Saran Wrap, a few pots, (Solar Still) an extra blanket, and a tarp up there, so we can set up a distress signal in the tarp and camp on the roof if the whole house is compromised.

Lastly, make a zombie pack. Have a pack with a few necessities, like some hard tack, spare knife, matches, rope, and so on, so if I have to run, I have the bare essentials. Grab my crowbar, nail up the door, assign a friend to watch for trouble, and sit down in the center room, and play a hell of a lot of Magic, Settlers, Risk and D+D, listen to my MP3 player with Ear Buds (Checking the radio every now and again), catch up on my reading. Could actually be a pretty good week.

I live on the top floor of an appartment building. If I barricade the front door with my sofa ill be pretty much settled. I wont be able to leave through that door but I know a solution: I also have a lenght of rope. Climbing down 3 stories with it might be risky but I can use it as a safety cord for when I climb from balcony to balcony, something im pretty sure zombies cant do. I could also use my furniture to block the stairwell, this would give me alot more space: my neighbours appartment and the attic, wich has individual storage room for all six appartments. The walls also seem to be weaker there. So with powertools I might be able to make a hole to the neighbouring building.

Before I start, I would like to say that I actually can do everything that I am saying.

I would barricade from both inside and outside. On the outside, I would put my tractor, my trailers, benches and metal fencing. I would park my 2 SUVs at strategic locations to prevent zombie entry. Windows will be boarded up and covered with tarp, blankets and towels (It's better if they don't know the windows are a way in). If time allows, I would board up doors as well.

On the inside, I would start by barricading all entries. In the laundry room I would move the washer and drier in front of the door. In the basement(after removing any needed items) I would move the massive entertainment center in front of the door. Then I would chainsaw the stairs. In the living room I would move a couch, a huge chair and the entertainment center in front of the doors. After retrieving any needed items, I go upstairs and chainsaw the staircase.

Upstairs I will have with me weapons and a ladder. Firearms include 12 gauge pump shotgun, 20 gauge double barrel, 30-06 rifle, .270 rifle, .32 ACP pistol, .22 pistol and a .22 rifle. I will also have several heavy items, a baseball bat, an axe, a sledgehammer, a shovel, the chainsaw, lawn mower and several cans of gasoline. I will have a ladder to navigate the house, as I am confident that the combination of my barricades, my weapons and my location (the middle of nowhere in an extrememly low populated town) will mean very little to no zombies.

That entertained me for awhile.

Empty the outside fridge, transfer to inner.
Put very heavy objects in front of ground-floor windows.
Retrieve hunting equipment.
Find windows to where there is 360 degree coverage of the house.
Lock 'n load.
If all else fails, send in the corgi to munch their ankles off.

I second that. but I would acquire provisions first. I would also get the wood axe from my basement and the crowbar and shovels from my garage to defend myself. Just in case.

Fence posts to barricade the windows, move all the bed downstairs to help keep them stable. The front door is solid, I wouldn't barricade it as much. refrigerator would be moved upstairs, as would the rest of the food supply, once everything was up stairs, I would destroy them as much as I could, and just shove the upstairs sofas down over what's left to block them more effectively. Once I was safely entrenched, fill the bathtubs with and sinks with water, shut off all the lights, and wait.

Oh, and fuck the lack of ammo and guns. There's a pair of rifles in this home, with almost 1000 rounds of ammo between them, plus everyone who lives here is a damned good shot with a bow and arrow (and crossbow).

Besides, I wouldn't likely stay home. I live in the suburbs, I would have left at the first HINT of the zombie uprising. I'm a paranoid psychotic and I have three copies of the ZSG.

I love killin' zombies.

I know there are a lot of Forums on zombies, but here's one more. You have 5 hours to barricade your home from zombies. You can only use items you have in your home(the shed counts). How would you do it?

As an afterthough to those who would ask, you can't leave the area, it's chaos. And you have no guns or bullets.

EDIT: I meant to say that you can't leave for a week. You can not leave because the roads are blocked, it is chaos AND THERE ARE ZOMBIES.

EDIT 2: You can leave your house IF you are getting items to barricade with AND the location is only 30 second's away
Now that that is out of my system: It occurs to me that zombies cannot climb very well? How about just getting a rope or a ladder and smashing the stairs? I can go down when I want using the ladder, but they can't get up without getting me first, and somehow climbing the ladder (Which are hard to climb anyway, if one end is unsecured.)

Perhaps I can also climb up onto my roof and lay out an S.O.S. signal, too.

I have massive windows all down stairs, but only a few upstairs. I would drag all my food stuffs and my hunting riffles up, along with any fire wood and hatchets I have in the garrage. I'd also get as much fabric and clothing for warmth and insulation, as well as blocking the windows so that lights would not shine through. I'd also grab gasoline if I could, along with a fire exstinguisher. (If the zombies don't know you're there, then the better off you are, right?) Then, I'd destroy the stairs as well I could, and what I couldn't destroy I'd block with miscelanious paraphenalia. I'd block off the landing into the hallway where I'd camp, lock the doors, and use the chairs upstairs already in the room to barricade this door even more. I'd also block off two of the three windows with bookshelves. I would then drench the game room with gasoline so that if it becomes overrun with zombies, one shot will incinderate my undead adversairies. I'd leave the bedroom locked but easily accessed, as it leads to the roof, and is impossible to climb up but simple to climb out of, as my escape root (after a week, of course). I'd then camp on the toilet in the bathroom, which is perfectly positioned that I may shoot anything coming from any corner with shotgun and or riffle.

OR!

The Simpler Solution

I may simple take all my foods and weapons into the garage (which already has all my wood and clothing stuffs). I would then pull a couch infront of the laundry room, which is cramped and impossible to move in with more than one person to begin with. Then I'd move a shelf infront of the door to the laundry room (that is already in the garage) and one to the side door. I'd open the garage door, park my jeep infront of the entrance, and close it again. I'd scatter as much crap that is in my garage infront of the entry ways, then take my food, weapons, clothing, and matress up to the rafters, and poor gas in specific areas so that it wouldn't catch anything but my invaders, or at least avoid blocking my escape rout, which is simply the side door which I know will easily be destroyed. (Again, obviously after staying a week.)

If zombies attacked and I was at home I'd be fucked, we have far too many glass windows/doors on the ground floor, I'd have to block off whole rooms rather than just possible entrances.

Also, the notion we can't leave completely messes up the hypothetical situation, because we would all starve to death eventually.
Same here, we have way too many glass windows and doors to try and cover up.

Hm... I was gonna say probably barricade the shit out of the cupboard at the bottom of my stairs, but...

Lesse...

Grab the lever action that's in my closet (Yes, I have one.) Grab the ammo that is stored with it. I would then proceed to sit in my bathroom, take the iron bar I have, and use it to barricade the door, along with perhaps a metal filing cabinet. I'm set.

Yes, I realize the 'rules' say there's no guns and ammo, but I do have a lever action sitting in my closet.

I live in a dorm. It has a solid metal door designed to hold back robbers. I just need to barricade the window, ensure the walls are solid, and get supplies and I'm good. Unless my roommate is a zombie and zombies learn how to use keycards! Wait, I have a lock on the door too.

Well we don't have barbed wire, but we certainly have everything necessary to make it in the garage. Make up enough to line all the fences (all 6 foot tall and solid), weld up some steel bars to put over any windows and in to replace the fly screen doors.

Get the chainsaw, bow and crossbow inside and sharpen up my sword, make up a bunch of spears and get all the ice hockey and motorcycle gear inside. Use the gear to acquire supplies.
Go down and raid the local supermarket for food, do it like a hit and run with our 4wd.

I think we could hold out for a few weeks at least!

Couches go up against my two door-windows. Mattresses go up against the windows. I make sure they're steady, then I wait with my cheap guitar for any zombie that happens to wander in.
Wait...

You are planning to flcl them?
Fooly Cooly... Correct? Well if that's what it means, maybe. I don't quite remember what happens in that show since it's been forever since I've seen it let alone any anime. But, no. By cheap guitar, I mean the one that I don't value that much. So I won't mind if it get's broken while I'm smashing some heads in.
