I'm not sure how much credibility to give that statistic, is this all American children? What about those without internet access?. To me it seems pointless. But since everybody uses facebook these days its not surprising for parents to want to throw up a page about their precious little baby.

Yes. I DO find this disturbing.

For similar reasons, I refuse to create a facebook, much to the ire of my friends.

I actually have friends that have given their cats facebook pages. Twitters as well.

The parents set them up for their kids, obviously. what would the kids statuses be?

^ that's what a 2 year olds fb status will look like.

That statistic is all sorts of fucked up. Huzzah, Facebook and stupid parents are creating a world where pedophiles are given an internet database to search for kiddies.

You don't say? Well I find that very surprising actually. I wonder if there parents just post everything for them.

Source plz.

I love all the hate here aswell, it's utterly harmless, usually for the parents to mess around or put photos of their kid up. Man, you guys piss me off sometimes.

I'm happy to say my kid isn't one of them. She can create her own damn profile when she learns to read/write/type.

It just seems like they're showing off, I mean surely if their kid did something incredibly retarded they could just update their own page.

I'd rather the kids "get" their own profiles and not add them, than have their parents constantly update us on the kid's battle with the sniffles or their first poo in the big boy potty from the children's perspective.

so yeah, in conclusion: *shrug*

I call bullshit. Either the source is full of crap or the OP is. I might believe over half, but not nearly all. That number is slightly higher then the number of households with internet access. It's estimated that only 94% have a computer and 90% have an internet connection.

Edit: Sorry little confusion. 90% is the number of people with the ability to access the internet, 70% is the percentage of households in the US with internet access.

That's the other side of this. I believe it all has to do with the presentation of the OP. Had say WrongSprite here been writing this I bet the majority trend would be to agree it is harmless.

That's a little creepy. I hope that it's the parents who are making these profiles. Doesn't really bother me if it's just the parents posting updates and photos and stuff, I guess that's cute for the relatives/friends who give a damn. And thanks for the reminder. I'm glad this month's PC Powerplay has come out. I had to check to see if the issue I had was #184 or not. Turns out it is, which means I need to go out and spend $8 really soon.

I call bullshit. I have a LOT of friends with kids (you don't get to my age without seeing all your friends get married off and start families). Not ONE of them made a Facebook for baby. 0% of a sample size of at least a hundred.

I have friends who made Facebook pages for their pets (four people), for their kids older than 2 but younger than 13 (my cousin Tracy, for her 11-year-old), and for their stuffed animals (me), but never for their babies.
