There's an achievement in MGS4 for completing the game without killing anyone, alerting anyone, using recovery items, dying, using stealth items, and under 5 hours.

Why would it surprise you that the next game gives you a similar option? It's probably an achievement.

Also, you may not have to kill anyone in Half Life 2. It would be rather difficult though.

Metal Gear Solid Rising is coming out soon. And people have been itching to play as a sword wielding stealthy cool guy. But Konami has now stated that it is possible to play through the ENTIRE game without killing ANYONE.

This is absolutely bizarre to me. They hand you a kickass sword, some amazing abilities and now they say "You know you don't have to use them, right?"
I know it's MGS and stealth is a big part of it, but should could you resist all the oppertunites to wreak havoc on unsuspecting enemies?

I don't think I could, but what about you guys?

EDIT: To get specific, you can slice weapons and hands and still get away with it. So you can still fight.
I was able to do it for the first Metal Gear Solid (except where it was scripted like Sniper Wolf) so I don't think there would be any problem in this new one.

I would love a game in which you couldn't kill anybody, it would be an incredible test of your skill and stealth.

I tend to play most games killing as few people as possible, so having a game where the entire objective was not to kill would be my idea of heaven.

And yes, I was a fan of games like Thief and Hitman back in the day, but I've played them a little too often now.

I haven't played a game where you could get all the way through without killing anyone, unless you take the * and let your team-mates kill anybody they feel necessary as long as you don't get your own paws dirty. I don't plan on buying this game, but if I had just bought a game and one of the things I'd heard about it is that you could play all the way through without a single kill, I would absolutely have to try that, because it's so rare.

This may be cutting corners, but pretty much any game where all your enemies are the undead.

On the other hand, step into a Gamestop store and check the DS section. I'm sure the vast majority of the games marketed towards teenage girls don't have any killing.

I played Harvest Moon once. The only things I killed were weeds and crops.

I've played a few king's quest games. A vast majority of the deaths involved the times my character fell down the stairs. By the end, I wanted to kill the developers.

Play Thief 2 on Hard difficulty and most of the time you are forbidden to kill anyone. All my casualties consisted of robots and the undead.

To everyone saying the Thief series: only in the first one can you get by without killing anyone. In Thief 2 and 3 the end bosses both die directly because of your actions.

Postal 2, the most offensive but hilarious game made with a budget and sold.

Don't be suprised if it's banned in your country, I mean, you can use cats as silencers.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3.
Despite the previous 2 games, it's IMPOSSIBLE to kill your guests.

Deaths used to include: Drowning, Rollercoaster Accident and Falling into oblivion when the underground path they're walking on 'mysetriously' vanishes (you sell it).

This just shattered any sense of realism there used to be. Now you don't care too much if your rides might fatally breakdown.

I think it's a fantastic idea, so as long as not killing anyone is *optional*.

I think a lot of gamers are kinda like me in this regard. There are days where you want to sneak around, inflict as few casualties as possible, just to test skills.

Then there are the days where the only thing that will satisfy one's inner insatiable bloodlust is to target any fool who looks at you (and the ones who make the invariable mistake of, "minding thier own business," too) and then proceed to blow his face out his asshole with the biggest, loudest, and highest cyclic rate weapon in your arsenal. Oh, and chuckling and audibly stating, "heh, I just cored that guy..." adds a certain dramatic flare to it, as well.

...no. I don't have an attitude problem. I have a *society* problem. ;)

Can't you beat Deus Ex without killing anyone?
I'm fairly sure three people must die in Deus Ex.

Mirror's Edge almost gets this, except for the final enemy.

Ummmm... Fallout 2 let this happen. And Sims!

There are 2 arbitrary kills, one arbitrary takedown and one optional kill (Depending on the ending).

Gunther and Anna have to be killed, either with guns or their killphrase.

Bob Page is the optional kill in the 1st ending.

When you begin your escape from the MJ12 base, the first guard you see has to be taken down, unless you are very stealthy or very quick in the level.
