You know if you read more of the blog she mentions the repocusions. As of today she is no-longer living there and nor is her farther. If I can work out who I'll try and hit the UK press with this.

This would also probabnly have a lot more impact (on me at least) if it was written in non-regeional terms. or at least explained more as to why most of that stuff her father was saying was so important. Not saying its bad that it is, but when you throw around names and events and such and someone who is not Syrian reads this, then much of the power and emphasis of importance gets lost.
I think you can afford to give people a little more credit. After all, not everyone is ignorant. And those who are can at least go read up.
Yes... and she generally seems to be writing these blogs for people in her country. Who would presumably already know about these things.

That attempt at humor is not funny.

You're being a bigot there.

EDIT:

And for those of you who think this accomplishes nothing.

Look at the last few sentences on that post:

"So, when my father says he will not leave until either democracy comes or he is dead, I have no choice but to stay. Not because he is making me, but because he is not making me.

We sent the rest away; any who can, any who will left for Beirut. I cannot go. He's staying so so will I."

Sounds like they're helping people get out of the country.

NOW try and tell me that that family still being alive doesn't accomplish anything.

I wish somebody did not ninja me with the Orson Clap, but, alas, they did. :L

I must just say, she is a brave girl and her father radiates badass, dwarfing the power of the Duke himself.

But, one crack from one of the pricks that I did not get. :L

"Did she tell you that she likes to sleep with women?" he grins, pure poison, feeling like he has made a hit. "That she is one of those faggots who fucks little girls?" (the arabic he used is far cruder ... you get the idea)

I went "das fack does that = that?". :L

Oh I can, and I'm not saying that you cant understand that this is something good happening. I understood that. But as soon as the father wen toff on his speech, I tuned out and only started to make sense of it all after he started saying how he was going to tell on the "goons", so I took it as my family name means more then yours, and you have insulted my honour.

I get the feeling that if the "goons" were older, we wouldnt be reading this story.

y'know the worst part is that they did come back looking for her and trashed the place and now shes on the run.

Seriously i dont get what the hell is with people in this world can't people just live in peace i mean its not particularly hard to not hate everything.

it really saddens me to see shit like this.

at least she's got her fathers support in what she does.

I think that was simply the closest English translation.

Read through that speech carefully.

Its much more than that.

it's bigoted to be skeptical?

yeah, totally.
edit: No.

Edit 2: I wasn't trying to be funny. i know it's hard but maybe ask what people mean if you're confused.

The way you were saying it came off as bigoted.

It sounded as if you were glad at the prospect of soldiers marching in and murdering an entire family because one member is gay.

So if that is not the case...
then please...
explain what you meant.

Out of curiosity Where did you find this OP? Then again a sad thing is I guessing there are 100's of blogs likes this from across the earth reading one is taxing enough.

I've past it on to a few friends who I know will care. I'll try and hit the UK press later. The annoying thing is we have a referendum tomorrow so a lot of media will be on that.

Her English is good, but like Japanese, Arabic might simply not be a difficult language to translate into English.

Certain phrases and even entire sentence structures that work in English just might not work in Arabic and vice versa.

I didn't find it on the news.

I found it on TV Tropes.

I don't remember what I was searching for, but during that search, I found a thread for "real life Crowning Moments of Awesome" nominations.

How the hell do you get that out of two lines of text...

It was obvious in the story that the thugs were bigoted people themselves.

It is also clear that, letting go the pretentious asshattery of the writer's style, the bigots had been bested.

What do bigots do when they've been shown to be wrong? Not in a family sitcom- in real life.

They think of violence as the answer.

Would it help if I said, "And the thugs, after doing their heinous act, say, 'that'll learn 'em'"?

Ah It's most certainly in the running for such a title. I think I'll be tracking her blog till the situation in Syria is over at the least. I just hope it dosen't fall silent.

"I have no desire to be a martyr, even to my own cause, so I will do what I can to stay free. It isn?t easy ? but ?"

From her latest post one of the most moving lines I've read in an age.

Fine.

But just so you know, that isn't how the story ended.

From what I and some others who have read more of her blog can tell...
She and her family are now on the run.

That is the most beautiful thing I've read in ages.

I really, really, REALLY hope this gets some news coverage. Anyone want to e-mail this link to CNN?
That's some stirring stuff right there and it goes to show that most people are rational and good hearted, it's just that words don't sell newspapers like bullets do.

The reason I quoted you is because I'm watching Citizen Kane at this very moment.
