Any multiplayer achievement really. They're always either too difficult or they take too long.

2. Multiplayer exclusive trophies.

Now, I don't hate that they are multiplayer. I hate that they are a requirement to get a platinum trophy.

I'm a single player kinda guy, and it annoys me when I can't get the feeling of 100% a game because I don't play the online.

The most recent perpetrator of this is Red Dead. I 100% single player, yet it will never be 100% when I look at my trophy-list. Douchebags.
The other annoying part here is if you pick the game up in a bargain bin which happens to have multiplayer-exclusive trophies. The online's practically dead by then, with maybe 1 or 2 matches, sometimes not even have servers anymore. Even if you desperately wanted to get those online trophies, you can't. I hate that.

most achievements in general are just stupid.

- There's the checkpoint achievements. You get up to a cut scene where somebody dies or there's a character who betrays you? *bleep bloop*

- There's the ridiculous card hunts, flag collection, and diary nabs... unless they provide their own justification individually, I really can't give a ****.

- You beat the game! *bleep bloop*

- You killed X with Y Z many times! *bleep bloop*

These things trivialize the entire game to a point system and it just kind of demeans any purpose you felt if you were immersed in the game. Now for games where immersion is obviously not the objective this is fine, but it just ********* me off when I'm enjoying a games story and see these things that make me feel like I'm at an arcade playing pac-man seeing how high a score I'm getting.

If I had my way with a game's achievements I'd make all of the achievements give points for failing at the game spectacularly.

You died 5 times on the first level? *bleep bloop*

You've committed suicide 3 times in a row? *bleep bloop*

You shot your teammate in the face with a rocket launcher while surrounded by other friendles? *bleep bloop*

I'd make it so that people would try to get through the entire game without getting any gamerscore or trophies.

Personally, there is only one type of achievement that I hate.. The 'Unlock All Achievements' achievement >_< Where you get an achievement for getting all the other achievements.

I'm going to go with 90% of the thread and say the multiplayer-exclusive achievements/trophies. That's just painful, some of us don't actually want to endure the multiplayer 'experience' of a game with an already-enjoyable single-player component. I say bring back bots for hell's sake and make interactions involving them count towards the achievements, or generalize those achievements so that they can be completed in the single-player component.

Then there's the obvious and generic kill this, collect that, perform this on this level with this amount of spectators and achieve this exact rank/score whilst doing so...

Complete level/game on a certain difficulty. Yeah, on the most difficult, I suppose this can be considered achievement/trophy worthy, but on the easiest settings? Not so much.

Secret achievements.

Oh great, I'm so good because I did something by accident and got an achievement. It's not much of an achiievement if you're not trying to achieve it.

Some achievements I can forgive-plot spoilers ones etc. Ones that just happen in the game.

But I generally dissaprove of having achievements that just happen in normal play, and having the obscure ones secret can be annoying. Checking online at a later date to discover that you've missed one that would've been easy levels ago, or whatever, is annoying.

A couple of BackBreaker's achievements spring to mind...

"Gain a first down!"
"Complete a pass!"
"Make a tackle!"

Backbreaker, you are a football game. Not much of one, but a football game none-the-less. While giving me 10 - 15 Gamerscore for doing what I'm supposed to do isn't all bad, it is a bit worthless.

I also don't like it when a game company cheaply tries to make their game replayable by making the "Complete level X on Casual, Normal, and Insane difficulties." Achievements.

I hate the old:

Complete the Game on Super Special Awesome Hard Mode!

I didn't buy this game to end up throwing it out a window.
Think about that developers!

Just the multiplayer acheivements. Not everyone can play their games online, and what about people who get the game after the servers have been shut down and multiplayer is no longer doable?

I mean, what if they released trophies for DLC to a game that hindered you from getting platinum until you got the DLC and got the trophies? It would suck. And so does this.
Borderlands does this in a way. It adds the DLC trophies into the overall percentage. So while I have the Platinum trophy for it, I only have 68% of the trophies. I hate seeing that because it makes me feel like there is so much that I'm missing.

For me it's: Complete Level X, Complete Level Y, Complete Level Z, Complete Level X on (insert hardest difficulty), so on and so forth.
Any game with DLC achievements or trophies does that. Sucks on both ends. For 360 it takes away from our completed page. And screws with our progress bars. And on PS3 it takes down the percentage. Bastards!!!

Aaah yes but there is a rub to this secret achievement/trophy gig. Often they will hide hard non plot achieveys to not scare away the trophy/achievement whores. Take a look at Lost Planet or White Knight Chronicles. Some of thier secret ones are ones that will need playing 600 hours or more. I know people that have passed on games they wanted to play because the achievements were too time consumingly stupid. Just like games with easy achievements sell better games with hard ones sell worse.

Those you mentioned are some of my favourites. I don't like achievements such as, complete chapter two, or, play for five hours. I like achievements to push me out of my way at least slightly.
