For a weapon designated as a 'side arm', dual 1887's are a little too overpowered (that's putting it modestly). Just about anyone with a so-so ability in aiming can dominate at short and mid ranges with these weapons, even outclassing the majority of the primary weapon line-up. By tweaking your perks you could either extend the range even further or decrease the somewhat long reload speed, eliminating just about any drawback the guns may have had. I have no problem with the 1887 being a powerful, one-shot killer. I just feel that they should reduce its ability to kill anything beyond short range, drastically (kinda like all of the other shotguns).

Honestly though, we're complaining about balance in a game where most of the players consider the term 'balance' as just the punchline to a bad joke. So if they fix this gun, the community will find some other to piss and moan about. Which is next, the M16, rapid-fire P90s/Vectors, scavenger allowing infinite launcher nades, Sonic style tac-knife commando speed demons? 1887s is just the flavor of the month as it is. Even more so now that IW is going to be fixing the Jav-glitch (at least that's some shining light in the near future).

I see people use Akimbo 1887's but if you ask me what's the god damned point? Any shotgun with stopping power at that range would KILL YOU ANYWAYS!

Ok, in regards to realism, I was pretty sure Call of Duty dropped all pretensions to realism somewhere between the Snowmobile chase and RUSSIA INVADING THE UNITED STATES...

Fun action game, yes. Realistic depiction of military combat, NO. They both use guns, that's as far as I'm willing to go. Also, I'd probably get killed alot in real combat too, so I'll grant that one, but as I've already discussed elsewhere, reality has some very frustrating gameplay mechanics.

Back to the original point of this post, I think Penny Arcade really said it best with this.

"Double Shotgun Dude is a dog rapist. On this point, there is consensus."

-Though I admit, I'm totally that knife guy sometimes when I don't feel like sniping.

Uhhh, perhaps I'm missing something really obvious, but I have no fucking idea what game you're talking about
Then why post?
Because, I suppose naively, I had hoped that somebody would fill me in. Subtly hidden in that post I had implicitly asked a question.

There are a great many games in the world and the balance of weapons in them is not consistant. While I've now assumed it is probably talking about the new call of duty game, it was not immediately obvious to me. OT the dual shotguns, while stupid, is by no means the worst balance issue in the game.

The other thing to that is, ok you might kill some more dudes, but you would very quickly get killed yourself as having two guns strapped to you makes movement a bit more difficult. And sadly in reality, there is no respawn. So while a tactic like Akimbo works in a game to get alot of kills, I don't think the guys in Iraq are taking it very seriously.

If you miss, you're boned.
You cant adjust your aim and fire the second?
If you're going for the "Overpowered" part, its that firing both barrels is incredibly long range. If you miss both of those, you will most likely be killed if they aren't firing at anyone else.

At OP: So theres no tactic that can be deployed with all/most guns to defeat it?
MW2 is such a frenetic game with very few chokepoints on each map that it's very easy to get blindsided in a firefight. Experts will always kill you in these situations, but the frustration comes from bringing your (you would assume) better ranged gun to bear and still being killed. Within ten metres they don't have to aim well, just fire both guns simultaneously and it's all over.

I joined a game recently where a high raked player used the akimbo 1887s constantly, and he got the final kill. The public kill-cam showed how poor his shooting was on the last kill, any other gun would have missed, but the spray did for his opponent. I wouldn't have minded so much, but he was cooing "Oh yes! I'm Arnie, eat that!" So I informed him that it wasn't a good kill, to which he got very annoyed until his teammate shut him up by agreeing with me.

They are just as easy to kill from range as any other loadout, but adding Marathon (constant running) and Steady Aim (Better Accuracy) or Lightweight (Run Faster) makes them a real handful as their speed and close range lethality are spectacular. I think what the Akimbo 1887's really need is to have a greatly shortened range, so they are only one hit kill to wihin ten feet, beyond that should require another hit. Otherwise the whole game requires luck, or a heartbeat sensor. They don't even see me coming...

you cannot load a p90 one handed without putting it down on sumthing and doing it while shooting another one is gonna be even harder

pistols make sense because clips are light and you can knock it in with your other arm while no such thing can be said about a p90 and the shotgun is even worse

you know its not possible otherwise it would be done on screen
Whilst i agree on the loading issue, the p90 is designed to have a low recoil, and in there promotional material they had some one dual wielding two, though there is probably a fair loss in accuracy.
Around the 4:30 mark [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyJEEISVTd4&feature=PlayList&p=7D806C1C46C4E18A&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=18]
Ha that vid was kinda creepy at the beginning, the way the camera moved over the gun's curves. It was almost fetishistic.

So I'm not the only one that dislikes them? I'M NOT ALOOONEEE!!
Or the dual wield rangers. Any shotguns in dual wield are pretty much instaownage. Blood soluble
