It's all right. I was the same way, only saw Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh on the WB when growing up. Later on, though, I got heavily into Dragonball Z until I realized that it was the same formula and they were not reaching a conclusion in a respectable amount of time. I didn't really feel that I liked anime until I saw Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop.

So, for the most part, I'm usually willing to give a series a shot. But it's not totally imperative.

It's like Colored manga. I don't like it if it is not in english. I have to watch an english dub, or I will want to stab myself from all of the weird words.

I think the real difference is don't pretend to know crap you don't know, anyone who puts "kawaii" has no idea how to speak any real japanese and is unaware that Kawaii is what little japanese GIRLS say, not grown men, or even grow women. The language takes a long time to learn, you can't just google "random japanese shit to say" and expect anything sane to come out of it. Also, you should pick your side in the never ending "japanese dub is better than english dub" war. (I prefer english, cause I SPEAK IT!)

English is what all of the cool countries speak. UK, US, AU, CA. Notice a pattern? They all won WWII. Japan didn't. XD

ive been reading manga and watching animes for like 20 years now (and no signs of stopping).
imo mangas are way better than graphical novels from the story, details, characters, designs, creativity, unbelievable complicated thoughts and storylines that they put in stories, etc.

lots of non-asian people dislike them because almost every manga is b/w, but each of their own i guess. and most people know mangas that are for kids (shounen) such as naruto, bleach, etc. but there are also manga genres that are directed to adult (mature individuals) which are categorized as seinen (which i prefer). which genre fits you? depends on your taste. and this goes to animes as well, as they are the animation version of mangas.

as for animes, i can name tons of titles in 10 seconds that beats any western movies/series that're around today, story wise that is.

dont be ashamed to like mangas or animes. because they are osummm....
btw, im more of a manga-person. manga/novel adapted animes/movies mostly...sucks
dragon ball the hollywood movie? was...oh god..

Trust me when I say even the people who you think would LEAST like anime, actually watch it quite a lot, especially those of the Pokemon/Dragon Ball/Sailor Moon generation.

If you're open minded and watch shows from many different countries, you'll find that you enjoy many different formats. It doesn't mean you're a strict anime fanboy, it means you're more open to other cultures.

Be open minded and watch things from lots of places, not just your own language. I believe I've seen movies and TV shows produced on every continent except Antarctica (March of the Penguins was only filmed there).

*As a Canadian, I confess I actually have no idea if Chilly Beach is funny to non-Canadians.

I love british comedy, Mainly because of montey python and top gear...
But I keep finding anime shows that I like! 2 weeks ago I couldn't if my life depended on it! WHY IS MY MIND JUST NOW OPENING TO THE RISING SUN?

Although I never really liked any of them untill I found Code Geass. Once you find one good one it's easier to find more that you'll also watch.

I've not watched Darker Than Black, but here's some suggestions for the animes that are usually considered good, thought you might want to know. Assume that you should watch the Sub for all that I do not specify.

In no particular order:

Cowboy Bebop (watch the dub, it's the poster child for dubs done right)
Code Geass (Sub is really entertaining, main character's Japanese voice actor is hilariously hammy)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (pretty depressing deconstruction of the Mecha genre, quite entertaining)
Death Note (both dub and sub are actually pretty good)
Avatar: The Last Airbender (not anime, but close enough that you probably subconsciously grouped them together. Probably my favorite show ever)
Outlaw Star (haven't watched it, but I've heard good things)
Gurren Laggan (only watched a few episodes so far, but I have friends who are obsessed)

I know that Cowboy bebop has to be good, seeing as how my OWN FATHER used to watch it in depth. He hates most TV shows. I have watched a few episodes of that and I like it. My friend usually talks about death note, so I'll have to look that one up. And I love Avatar TLAB, I never concidered it an anime though.
