No, you are not, but your friend is. You paid money for a game, its YOUR GAME. If you had beaten it twice, gotten to Rank 40, and turned every Big Daddy in the game into a Yellow Eye Collage, and he asked, then maybe he'd have some merit, but you just got the game, and he didnt even ask you, so tell him to fuck off.

As far as i'm aware, you can lose your whole steam account for breaking the ToS.
Pretty damn sure it's illegal and can end very poorly for you if Steam can be bothered to go through with what they're allowed.

All the legal and account ending scenarios aside, your friend is being a dick. Don't get mad at him for it but don't stand there and accept his flack.
While I do think it's pretty unscrupulous, how could they conceivably know that you don't own both computers? Even with the large distance between them, there ARE people who live both in the US and England.

Well, breezing through this topic, I'd say there's nothing left to say, really. You don't have to take his crap if your friend does not enough to get at least even. Contrary to what he believes, he has got no right at all to just take what you've got. Not even asking is also just plain rude and he should apologize.

Are you going to show him this thread? :D That'd be cool.

I also don't see how your friend can be that poor if he can afford a computer that is able to run Bioshock 2/Fear 2 and the ilk.

Edit:

You might own both computers, but why would you have two different Steam accounts then? If you wanted to play the same games on both PCs, you just use the same account.

"You're a brat for not letting me download your games that you payed full price for. You're such a spoiled brat. Grr."

See what I just wrote right there? It's bullshit - all of it.

The dude is clearly taking advantage of you.

Don't quite know how the steam account thing works but can't you stop people from downloading your games?

You said that you let him play games on his account, but does he let you play games on his? If not, he's basically stealing. If he does, then he uses your account anyway, so I don't see why couldn't he just play the game on your account.

You shouldn't have let him on your steam account in the first place. If he wants to play games without paying, let him find some other illegal method, there are plenty.

It doesn't sound like youare being a brat at all. I mean, you are the one that paid for the game and if he having issues with you not allowing him to download it, thenhe has nothing to truly complain about. It was your money that went into it and the game has been out for less than 24 hours at most so, at most, he can be understanding of why you are hesitant to allow it in the first place.

I believe it's against the ToS to have someone else use your account and it wouldn't be difficult to prove that he wasn't in the country at the time his account was accessed from the US IP, or even if they signed in within an hour or two of the other person logging out would make it impossible for it to be the account holder and the one who signed the ToS.

It's largely speculation, but it doesn't seem too absurd for a legal agreement.

you have no obligation to share your games with your friends if you dont want to... i have a couple of friends id never share games with, mostly cuz i know them to be untidy fuckers notorious for forgetting to put the disc back in the box... anyway... my point is, if you friend is demanding you share your games with him hes being a dick, its your money, your choice, your fucking game.

Tell him if he want Bioshock 2 that bad then he should pay for the game himself. Remember you are friends NOT MARRIED, you didn't agree to any bullshit vows like "what's mine is yours and yours is mine".

Friendship just means you get on with each other, he can ask as nicely as he likes but you have no obligation and he has no right to what you paid for with your own money.

How can he even take your copy anyway, do you both just use the same Steam account? You should stop that shit right now regardless or fear the wrath of the bloodstained ban-hammer of Gay Ben...

... I mean Gabe N. as in Gabe Newall :D

Its not often I do these kind of threads buuuuttt, here we go.

So I bought Bioshock 2 on the day of release for like £26, through Steam (it kicks ass in case you were wondering, not that you were because you've probably all played it).

Anyway one of my friends wants to download it from my Steam account and decided to log on and take it without asking, so I told him he couldn't so he didn't. Except not quite. When I went to bed he started downloading it again and thanks to his sucktakular internet connection he only got to 56% ish by the time I found out when I got in from school today.

We got into an arguement about it and he said that because I didn't want to give him another full price game through Steam (I have him Fear 2 on release and Dragon Age a few weeks ago) that I was being a brat who just didn't want to share my new toys. It should be noted that I only get games from him when he offers because I don't ask and he gave me Psychonauts, even though it was only £1 and his, and my, other friend let me download Portal from him when it was like £18. And that he never asks for these games, he just takes, except for Fear 2.

Anyway I thought I'd get some fresh perspective and would like you folks to tell me whether I'm being a brat or whether he's being unfair, if you'd be so kind.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I changed my password.

Also worth mentioning is that he doesn't consider this stealing. He used the analogy that I should 'share my chips' with him instead of throwing the rest away. Which I think means that as I've already paid for it so giving it to him will not inconvenience me and I should give it to him.. I really hate his analogies.
No offense to your friend, but he sounds like a freeloading prick to me. Tell him to buy his own damn games...

Nah, your friend is just a douchebag that doesn't want to pay like the rest of us have to, and if you never asked and he just let you download some of his games you don't owe him shit.

If anything your friend is the brat. Whining about a video game that he can't get. It's your games, so it's your decision.

Oh, and if your friend doesn't considers consider that stealing (I.E. He tried to take it without asking) He is a stupid little *****.

If he gets back in again, then Report his account. My friend did this once, under similar circumstances (Only he was taking the entirety of the orange box I bought on my private account)and when he snuck onto mine during a sick day I reported his ass, changed my password, and gave him the finger.I suggest you do the same if they aren't a major friend.

How the fuck did that happen? I thought it was impossible to be able to download the game and use it without steam being active...

What I am trying to say is that, he downloads games from you and he is some how able to play them without having your account online? that makes no sense. I thought steam wouldn't allow that.
