Yeah I agree... It looks just like Fallout 3 only possibly slightly better. Well it looks as though it could be better but it could also fail miserably...

I was seriously considering buying it but then I started playing Fallout 3 again... And I changed my mind. Its not worth buying a whole new game for some minor improvments.
A whole new game by a different developer with the same base engine which is actually the only similarity. You dont know what the game is like and I can tell from what you have said you have taken one look at the graphics and said nope it looks like fallout3 so it HAS to be exactly the same. No way in hell somebody could use the same engine and you know make a sequal where the only similarity is the graphics but change every single aspec of gameplay.

I didn't say anything about graphics... And I don't care if the graphics are the same (I would almost prefer it infact... They were good the way they were... And one of my favourite series of games, the Jak and Daxter series hadn't changes the graphics between the games one bit, It doesn't bother me). I've watched most, if not all of the videos of Fallout New Vegas and seen plenty of gameplay... It looks very similar. Not that thats a bad thing. Fallout 3 was great... Amazing... voted No 1 game of the Escapist not so long ago... But the only additions I can see are new weopons, new enemies, new story, new world... While that is alot of stuff... While certainly an improvement, Each of these don't look different enough to be worth shelling for a brand new game. I might this game, but not until its dirt cheap and comes with its expansions or whatever...
And not until I get bored of Fallout 3... Which is very unlikely to happen anytime before the heat-death of the universe

Seriously, i haven't heard any previewer say that he or she thinks it looks exactly like Fallout 3. All it gives you is some new weapons and locations. You could do that in a dlc and get the exact same result! [See The Pit and Point Lookout].

And it doesn't look like they have upgraded the graphics in any way. ANY. I got pissed of when pc gamer described most of the map would be like F3, just with a blue sky. That pissed me off.

You can yell at me all you want, and guess more of what is good is good i suppose, but you know Yahtzee is going to rip on what ive said for about 2 minutes of his episode.
From what i have read they spent less time focusing on making ULTRA-REALISTIC graphics and more on the world itself (deepening the experience), also, when has the graphics been the major selling point of the fallout series?

you know, i rather have them spend their time making more varied enemies (super mutants will have different skin tones and outfits), more weapon customization and more to do than trying to appease graphics whores.

You could say the exact same thing about Fallout 1 with Fallout 2. Just think of it like that. Sure the graphics engine didn't change, but I enjoyed it more than Fallout 1.

Maybe the same will be said for FO:NV.

So does MW1&2
HALO 1,2,&3
All the guitar heroes
Gears of War
Bioshock ect.
That doesn't mean the gameplay and story aren't vastly improved, it just means that its building on an already stable platform(and fanbase)
I'm sure more people would be pissed if it looked a lot different compared to it looking the same.

Ummm....that's like the first thing I thought when I saw the first screen shot of the game.

Now I'm worried whether if Obsidian will fuck up in the programming department and give us a half broken game....=/

The mind numbingly reatarded plot and characters? The senselessness of the entire situation you went through? The rubbish skill system?
I liked it.

But please, elaborate intelligently on why you believe all of the above.
Yeah, I'm guessing he's one of the pre-fallout3 elitist that like to act like the third installment raped and murdered their entire family.

Don't bother...=P

Bethesda being a huge company and having lots of other game projects on the go they just don't have enough time to make a new engine, new graphics ect because fallout 3 itself was built from the ground up (well not entirely as they used oblivion's engine but you get the point) and that took four years to make. So to make the game come out quicker they using all of fallout 3's engine, graphics, textures and adding obsidian's great storytelling to craft a new fallout experience. I think its a very smart move if you ask me.

Edit - The graphics are not entirely the same as fallout 3 anyway. They have changed the models of the super mutants to look like the ones in fallout 1 and 2 facestraps and all.

see what i mean

If they bring back the low intelligence character = low intelligence character from the original games I can't complain. They won't though so its going to be shit.

Doesn't this game have a grenade-launcher minigun? If so, I don't see how you can be complaining.

SHURIKANS AND LIGHTNING!!!!11 Oh yeah! =]

I think that as FO3 was such a good game, and that the storyline for this looks so much better, and they've rectified the many, MANY faults of FO3 (i just hope it still doesn't make my Ps3 crash sometimes), I'm looking forward to it. It's a new Fallout, and you can't go much wrong with that.

Well, they are using the same engine so such similarities will be expected. Hopefully they will update the models and animations though. It doesn?t bother me so much that they look very similar, New Vegas is more of on off shoot or whatever you might call it instead of a proper sequel.

I don?t mind companies re-using and updating existing engines. It probably saves them a lot of time and money. Besides, even just updating an engine can allow for some nice improvements.

stop complaining about how it looks. I always hear from the escapists that they wish games had better story and gameplay. So why are all of you suddenly complaining about graphics. They are fine. I do hope though that the story is a at least a little better.

Agreed! 2 was a copy/paste enginewise from 1 and we've never heard anyone whine about that.
Infact, most reviews where the opposite, simply because the story of 2 was as epic as that of 1.
I'd say play the game first, experience the story, then complain.

And if you want a better looking game with each sequel or addon you should start your own developers team, assuming you are such an awesome person that you have a truckload of working alternatives ready and waiting that are far superior to the existing ideas.

Well, it is being made in the Bethesda Engine, so all of the textures and sounds and so on are all already there, so it does only make sense for the Devs to use them.

It's on the same engine and using many of the same assets. Not only that, but it also will try to fit the same visual theme as the previous game.

Play the game on PC and wait for the modding community to make the upgrades you want. It's a sound strategy for ANY Bethesda game to be honest.

obsidian made this not bethesda and obsidian has a weird thing for making sequels with the originals graphics *cough* kotor2 *cough*.

also hush up and be glad your getting something and its not being developed by bethesda which means they'll be putting all their spare time into tes 5.
