Guys it's not 875% increase in SALES. It's just an 875% increase of it's Amazon ranking. The title is VERY misleading. The sales number hadn't jumped up by 875%- only its popularity on Amazon had.

OP please change the title and read the article again.

Okay, first, unless everything else in the world above the WiiU in rank yesterday suddenly stopped selling, increase in sales rank = increase in sales. Personally, not believing in coincidence except in the rare case where it is the only explanation (meaning 'there is no explanation'), I'll go ahead and associate the Wii U's jump in rank* with it's sales increasing. Assuming that everything else stayed roughly the same price and sold roughly the same amount of units, that should equate to the WiiU's sales shooting up 875%.
Nononono! That's horrible math! Just think about it. Let's say the Wii U sold 5000 units on amazon and that puts it at rank 800 and 800% increase in rank would mean that it would rank as top 100. But it is very possible to achieve the top 100 with 6000 units sold (which would be a 20% sales increase and nowhere near 800%). You see the ranks say nothing about how many more units are sold, it just says that it has more than lower ranked products. Top 100 could have 1 more sale than top 101, etc.

Wii U has been doing pretty damn poorly until now. Literally, the best advertising they ever had was their competitor's unveiling.

The ironing in this is delicious.

I'm with Resonance here.

Exactly what the fuck is the article saying, I'll probably never know. All that I could get out of it was that the Wii U started selling more ON AMAZON. If Nintendo came out and said this, I'd probably not be this skeptical, but since it isn't, I have to be. I'm only going to take official numbers from Nintendo themselves rather than anyone else at this stage.

I don't know if that says more about Microsoft's debacle or the Wii U's uninspiring recent sales figures.

Holy crap shit...
Maybe some other third partiers than Ubisoft will jump this wagon now too?
800%, because of the rivals announcment of their console (it has to do something with that right?) is quite something.

Well then the whole ranking thing came along and I'm not as impressed.

Hahaha, its exactly like I said already:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.408601-Why-I-believe-the-WiiU-isnt-selling-well#17074633

People were waiting to see all three of them and now that Microsoft released a giant steaming turd and Sony seems to be going the same way, people turned to the leadt bad of the bunch, which is the WiiU.

Sales rank and sales are not the same thing. If you're going to just post a link, you might want to read the article first before you post about it.
Sometimes I wonder if reading comprehension is a lost art....

Probably all those people who were going to buy an Xbone seeing it's a piece of shit and deciding to get a good console instead.

I really don't know what MS were thinking with this whole launch event, I really don't. Appealing to the social media hipsters and people too lazy to press the AV button on their remotes, un-smart move lads.

The big game they focused on too, CoD:Ghosts...........a multi platform game, that will sell like gangbusters anyway. Another un-smart move lads.

Sony and Nintendo can now save a shit load of money on their ad campaigns now, all they need to do is show snippets of the Xbone launch and the rest should fall into line.

The Xbox One fails entirely for any number of reasons. It's not just bad, it legitimately should not exist at all as it stands right now. Now I won't jump the gun and say that it's going to fail entirely, but these sales are a pretty good early indicator.
Er, you just said it would fail entirely, and then said you wouldn't say that...

While Microsoft have screwed up badly with their reveal, they haven't actually begun their marketing campaign proper yet and the sales will still be huge. Just like everybody "hates" CoD, but stand in line for every new one.

OT: Remember when we took the piss out of the Wii at launch? How it was going to be outmatched by PS3 and 360? History repeats it seems.
While this isn't a instant win for Nintendo or Sony, this is a MASSIVE boost for them.
I've said a couple of times that the reveal event might as well have been seppuku...then I realized that would be too Japanese for such a strong, American console so...uh...hell, I can't think of a fine American way to kill one-self so let's call it a freak (American) football accident. Either way, I got exactly what I wanted from the post-reveal Q&A segments and the articles that came after. I can't stay connected to the internet 24/7. I buy and, trade second-hand games. Don't want a camera watching my every moment and probably don't even have enough room for the thing. I don't give two shits about sports IN GENERAL let alone American Sports and especially the ESPN. There is nothing Microsoft can do or say to peak my interest in the console and ever since it was revealed that the Kinect2.0 would be compatible with PC's, I don't see any point in the console AT ALL. If there is a massive revival of games like Whacked, Crimson Skies, Breakdown, Jade Empire, Mech Assault, Killer Instinct, Battletoads, Knights of the Old Republic, Banjo-Kazooie, Blinx, Lost Odyssey and, Steel Battalion...AND they were exclusive to The XBone...they would still inevitably lose out when the Nintendo/Sega partnership reaches it's logical conclusion and Shenmue III is announced as an exclusive.

...there was a fighting game on the original Xbox that I wanted to include in my list above but I can't remember the name of it...It was something hard to say like Kakuto Koujin or something really Japanese sounding. It was a 3D fighting game where you could break people's bones and there was real-time bruising. That would be cool to bring back as well and consider that up there...I dunno, between Crimson Skies and, Breakdown.

Well, that's all kinds of hilarious.

I am currently imagining little Japanese executive types rolling about on the floor laughing.
You can practically hear Iwata laughing at the naysayers....

Edit: Also, J-e-f-f-e-r-s will be here shortly to bask in the warm glow of the Wii U actually selling.

OT: Hmm, I'll probably get a PS4 further down the line, I typically grab PlayStation products 2 years into the life cycle after theres a few good exclusives and firsty party games and the first price cut has hit. The Xbox One doesn't interest me in the slightest unless they reveal solid gold exclusives at E3 and I mean like 12 of them, with varied game-types.

Including an RTS and Civ 6.

But that won't happen.

Until I get my PS4 in a couple or 3 years I'll stick to my PC and Wii U (the games drought is almost over!).

I don't know about about Nintendo winning. I think the Sony is going to give them quite the run for their money.

That being said, wow what a Nintendo Wii U sales boost. The XBOX One was exactly what the Wii U needed to bounce back.
It's been a slow couple of months, but the Wii U's advantages have been sorely underestimated. After this, I don't think it's going to become another PS Vita at all.

I'll admit, I've shown some doubts about the Wii U when it was floundering. But I never lost all hope and this definitely reinvigorates me in hope for the system. Right now I think at the very least it will surpass the success of the Gamecube. In fact at this rate I think it could well do twice as well as the Gamecube.
